I’ve seen a new side to Matt Connover. He’s proven to me that there is something inside him other than icy control and masculine force.
I’ve seen care… tenderness… even protectiveness.
I’ve seen vulnerability.
But Matt Connover’s issues run deep. I know Cal hurt him deeply, and he keeps himself protected because of that. I also sense there is something more to his pain that even I cannot comprehend.
Matt is struggling between what he knows and what he wants.
I’m struggling with boundaries and how to protect my own fragile heart.
This time I’m drawing a line in the sand and Matt can either step over to join me, or these Legal Affairs are finished forever.
Violation, the third installment in the Legal Affairs series, had a heartbreaking, yet hopeful-ish ending. Matt pulls through for Mac when she needs him the most, but will he give her his heart?
At the risk of being a bit spoilery...Matt Connover, you pissed me way the hell off, sir. So much that I wanted to hurl my kindle. I hoped that I was wrong, but I really knew the assholery was coming. Having said that, I get the reluctance. But I also hated how you tried to string Mac along, though it's completely obvious that she wants more. Not cool, man. Not cool.
Okay. Okay. I'm calm now. I know I just went off on a mini-rant at a fictional character. I know that makes me a bit melodramatic. The good news is, the Legal Affairs series has obviously gotten a foothold on me; I'm all in. Apparently. I am really enjoying this series. I appreciate the way Bennett employs a push-pull relationship between the characters, and therefore her readers. Much like Matt and Mac, I feel as if she's going to give me what I want in each installment, and I do get a piece. But in the end, it's taken away. I pout. I get angry. Then once again, things seem to turn around and I'm offered more.
Mitigation was a quick, gripping read. I truly enjoy this series. I can't wait for the next installment.
Favorite Quote:
Then he says, "Because I can't stop thinking about you. You're all I want."
I'm all he wants? My heart flutters in response and my hopes that Matt and I could truly be something starts to rise.
But then Matt causes me to come crashing back down again, because he says, "It's why I left work at two o'clock today and hit a bar to get shitfaced. So I could drown you out of my mind... even if only briefly. You're a blessing, Mac... but you're also my curse."

Matt Connover is like a new person. Caring, romantic and thoughtful. No worries though… he’s still sexy as hell.
He has changed in every way that I have ever dreamed of, and he did it because he wants me. It’s like a fairy tale of sorts.
Except… like with every fairy tale, there is a villain. One who threatens to disrupt the harmony we have created together.
Is what we have strong enough to survive? I truly believe that perhaps I can find love within these Legal Affairs. I’m just not sure Matt believes it.
We have turned a corner with the Legal Affairs series, to which I say "Yay!" and "Finally." It seems that Mac's ultimatum knocked the stubborn out of Matt Connover, and he finally realizes that she is a woman worth taking a chance on.
Reparation is probably the happiest installment of the series thus far, having the playful and sexy tone of a couple who are finally allowing themselves to go all in. With that happier tone, I have to say that it is one of my favorites of the installments. That's not to say that Matt and Mac are in for smooth sailing. If you've read the series, you know the major issue that plagues Matt will not go away. But I was very pleased to get to know a sweeter, less evasive Matt. And Mac, she is such a great character. She's strong enough to put Matt right back in his place, and to help him take on his demons.
I can't believe this series is almost over. I'm very excited to read part six, but also sad. I can't wait to see what Sawyer Bennett gives us next!
Favorite Quotes:
Matt takes his right hand and skims his fingers along the side of my neck, all the way around to the base of my skull. I feel his hand open wide and then he grabs a handful of my hair, twisting it several times around his wrist. When he has me well and truly captured, he pulls slightly, causing my head to tilt back and expose my throat. Bending over, he places light kisses along my jaw, all the way to my ear, where he murmurs, "I take that is a yes to my invitation to go out tonight?"

About the author
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn't have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
