Lucky Morgan has had her share of heartbreak. She is devastated when her boyfriend dumps her after sleeping with him and she vows to herself that she won't be used again. She decides that the next guy she dates and sleeps with, will be her one true love.
Zane Beaumont is the mysterious and snooty guy that comes into her diner every Friday night with a different girl. He's the type of guy she's learned to avoid: carefree, fast, handsome, rich, and sarcastic. Unfortunately, she can't stop thinking about the devilish gleam in his eyes.
When Lucky's car breaks down one night after a party, it is Zane who comes to her rescue. As Zane attempts to sweep Lucky off of her feet, she soon realizes that nothing is as it seems and that Zane may very well be the guy for whom she changes the rules. That is until she meets Braydon.
The Last Boyfriend is a book that has been doing phenomenally well on the Kindle charts, and that is what immediately sparked my curiosity about this novella. Add in a hot guy staring at me intensely from the cover... and yeah, I this was going to be read.
The Last Boyfriend is the story of Lucky, a down on her luck (seriously, no pun intended) waitress in Miami who secretly longs for the guy who comes in every Friday night with a different girl as his date, Zane Beaumont. Lucky knows that Zane is way out of her league, and honestly has no hopes of actually having his attention, until one night at a party, they make a real connection. When Zane helps Lucky after her car breaks down, the two become involved, first as friends, moving into a working relationship, and then romance blooms. Well, not exactly a romance, but the definitely become more than just friends. But Zane has a lot of secrets, and is not open to a true relationship with Lucky. Now it's up to Lucky to decide if she's willing to forget her rules for keeping her heart safe, and take a chance on a guy who may never give her what she needs.
Lucky and Zane were both fairly complicated characters. Lucky was a sweetheart. She'd been burned by love, and isn't up for getting hurt again. When she has the opportunity for more with Zane, she's so conflicted because he won't give her the commitment she wants, and yet she can't stay away. Coming from the standpoint of a person who has always refused to settle in relationships and never pursued someone who didn't want me, I don't really get Lucky's willingness to accept whatever Zane is willing to offer. But, I'm not the majority (I think) and so though I don't love this, I get it.
Zane was a much more difficult to pin down. He's obviously interested in Lucky, but tells her he'd be no good for her. He's continuously telling her he wants her, but also trying to reinforce that he's not the relationship kind of guy. Honestly, I was irritated by this, but when we finally get to know exactly what's going on with Zane and why he's opposed to relationships, it does make more sense. Once again, I get it.
The Last Boyfriend got off to a slow(ish), yet interesting start. I wanted to understand what was going on with Zane, and why Lucky felt so compelled to be with him. The "relationship" definitely moves fast, but since the story is fairly short, that had to happen. The last half of the story really started pulling my interest, and I liked the revelations about Zane's past. The story ended on a really positive note, and leaves me curious as to what will happen in The Last Husband.

Lucky wanted a guy to be her last boyfriend but she never counted on love not being enough.
Lucky Morgan fantasized about the hot guy from her diner for months. And when he offered her a dream job, she jumped at the chance to get to know him better.
Zane Beaumont was skeptical about love and guarded his heart. Even though he was falling for Lucky, he was still scared to fully let go. So he makes a decision that may ruin their once chance at happiness.
Both of their lives are turned upside down by some unexpected news and Lucky has to decide, once and for all, if Zane is the guy she wants to spend her forever with.
The Last Boyfriend was the beginning of Lucky and Zane's relationship. The Last Husband tells what comes next as the two move forward in their new relationship. What happens when Zane's his secrets, his past, and his push for justice interferes with their relationship.
I liked The Last Boyfriend, and I have to say, that I enjoyed The Last Husband more. This book, though it had serious moments, had a happier tone. I liked Zane and Lucky's relationship, which was often funny and playful. In the first book Zane came off as way intense and kind of cold, but now that we know what's going on with him, he's a much easier to like character. I also liked Lucky more in The Last Husband, too. She was so sweet and caring towards Zane, but was definitely willing to stand up for herself and call him out when she felt he was holding back. I love a good, strong relationship in my books, and theirs certainly was that.
The Last Husband also dealt out some reallllly big surprises. Good surprises. I'm not going to say more about this because I do not want to spoil the story. Let me just say that by the end of the story, I had a big smile on my face.

EXCERPT
“Zane, those are not boxer shorts.” I gasped as I stared at him standing there in his briefs half-naked.
“What can I say?” He grinned at me and grabbed me by the waist. “I have no shame when it comes to you.”
“Why do I think we’re making a huge mistake?” I laughed and we ran to the ocean hand-in-hand. We dropped our clothes on the sand and I raced ahead of Zane. “Catch me if you can.” I jumped into the water and gasped at how cold it was. I dove under and swam to warm myself up and as I bobbed back up, the cool air caressed my face while the sun kissed me. I lay back on my back and floated in the water enjoying the warmth on my face for a few seconds before Zane grabbed me from behind.
“Come here you.” He growled and wrapped his arms around me tightly.
