Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

Cade’s always taken risks…

Cade takes cares of his sick younger sister by doing what he does best--cage fighting and fu--er, starring in adult movies, his newest harebrained moneymaking scheme designed to pay for his sister’s growing medical bills. But when his latest gig finds him admitted to the ER sporting an erection from hell, thanks to the little pill given to him by the director, he can’t get the pretty little nurse who treated him out of his head, even though he knows she’s so far out of his league it should be illegal.

Alexa’s always played it safe…

Tired of being pigeonholed as the sweet, innocent one, hardworking nursing student Alexa has been looking for ways to break out of her Goody Two-shoes image. When her friend suggests the outlandish idea of losing her virginity to the sexy and sure-to-be-skilled porn star, Alexa is mortified. But then when Cade refuses her proposition, she finds herself pissed off and embarrassed. When she tracks him down to give him a piece of her mind, she isn’t prepared for what she finds. Watching him care for his little sister tugs at her heart, and suddenly it’s no longer just about losing her virginity, but about helping Cade. Because Lord help her, she might actually be falling for a porn star…

I've read all of Kendall's books and one thing I've picked up and loved about her books is that her leading men are not the average romantic hero. So when I had the opportunity to choose a topic for a guest post, I chose...

Creating Unlikely Heroes

By Kendall Ryan

I have so many book boyfriend so needless to say, I’m beyond EXCITED to talk unlikely heroes!

There are so many amazing romance reads out right now and I wanted to contribute to the genre in a way that was fresh! Many romance novels showcase the male character in a dominant, rich, powerful position over the woman. Which is HOT, don’t get me wrong, but I wondered if I could flip that on its head and have a strong female character.

In Unravel Me, Ashlyn is a Ph.D. student studying a man who has amnesia. I took all the power from my male character, but trust me, he is still very much an alpha male, so it’s a fun combo.

And in Make Me Yours, I liked the idea of changing things up from the traditional romance novel where the female character is so often a virgin. I wanted to see what would happen when I paired up a sexually confident woman with a guy virgin, choosing to stay that way until he met the right girl.

And in Hard to Love, I went off the rails completely, wondering what it would be like to fall in love with a porn star. Yikes! Lots of trust involved in that relationship! And conflict, and jealousy an attraction… *sigh*

**Thanks to Kendall for sharing her thoughts. I highly recommend Unravel Me and Make Me Yours.**

Good girl from a privileged family meets and falls for the bad boy. Classic story, right? Umm...yeah, except when the so-called "bad boy" has taken to fu-- er, starring in adult films. So when Alexa and Cade meet, while he's packing an extra special package and she's the nurse who helps treat him, it turns out that while they won't have the easiest of relationships, neither one is hard to love.

Alexa, as you may have picked up from the synopsis, is a good girl, a twenty-one year old who hasn't had her v-card punched yet. I'll be honest, I applaud young women who hold onto this, but sometimes they're not so fun to read about. I know, this makes me sound like an a$$, but it can be annoying. This is NOT the case with Alexa. Her virginity is not her identity, it is just one part of her multi-faceted personality. AND, Hard to Love is not the story of a man-whore trying to get into the innocent virgin's pants. Not at all. It IS the story of a girl who meets a guy, is immensely attracted to him, and he's doing what he has to do to get by.

So. Cade. He is one hot man. He had to grow up way too soon and has responsibilities very few young men could handle. He's trying to make a good life for himself and his little sister, whose health comes at a high price. When he meets Alexa, he doesn't want to fall for her. He doesn't have the time, the money for the kind of life he thinks she deserves. But how can a guy not fall in love with the girl who wants to help him, loves spending time with and cares for his little sister. Cade soon learns that no matter what his brain tells him, the heart is an entirely different animal. His heart wants Alexa.

Hard to Love was such a fun story to read. From the beginning, hilarious and epically awkward, I fell for the characters, their stories, and I honestly could not read this story fast enough! With her fun, steamy stories that make me laugh and swoon, Kendall Ryan has quickly become a favorite author of mine. Hard to Love was EASY to fall in love with.

Favorite Quotes:
(all quotes are from eARC and may have changed)

I felt like a real asshole, sitting here sporting wood and staring at the nurse's tits. Classy. I cleared my throat and looked down.
It was if my dick thought we were here to pick up a willing participant to ease his discomfort. Sadly, no little man. I felt his pain.

"You're going to be the death of me, cupcake." He brushed the dampness from my lip with his top finger.

"That's better." He smiled and dropped his hand. "I don't know what's going on in that pretty head of yours, but if you ever really do want this, I'll be the one to do it. Hell, I'd be honored. But you should do it when you're ready, and with someone special.

He leaned in closer to my face, just inches from me. "Sex for money has no emotion. It's like being at work --
....."Believe me. I'm sure as shit not proud of it. But you know I'd do anything for that little girl."
