Dirty Rowdy ThingSeries: Wild Seasons #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 11/4/14

Despite their rowdy hookups, Harlow and Finn don’t even like each other...which would explain why their marriage lasted only twelve hours. He needs to be in charge and takes whatever he wants. She lives by the Want-something-done? Do-it-yourself mantra. Maybe she’s too similar to the rugged fisherman—or just what he needs.

Why I'm Waiting ~ I love, love, love all of Christina Lauren's books! Sweet Filthy Boy was fantastic, and I can't wait to get more of Finn and Harlow.

One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away.

I love Christina Lauren books. Every book contains an exceptional blend of smart, sexy, passion and humor. The books contain strong female friendships, which is something I don't see enough of in books. When it was revealed that the duo had a new series in the works, I was so on-board. It didn't matter who the characters were or where it took place or even what the story was about, for that matter. I just wanted it. Greedy, I know. But when you find an author(s) who delivers every single time, that's what happens. If I were to sum up Sweet Filthy Boy in one word, it would be delicious. If  I could use more words, they would be: delicious, dirty, sweet, hilarious, endearing, romantic and even surprising.

Ansel and Mia won me over from the beginning. I went into this telling myself not to do it, but I can't help but compare these two to Max and Sara of Beautiful Stranger. After a few really tough years, Mia is out to live it up on a wild weekend with her best friends. She's unhappy with the direction her life is headed, feels absolutely no passion for the future she's resolved herself to. She's directionless, really. Mia, she's so deeply ensconced into her own head. Comfortable conversations don't come easily for her, words don't come easily to Mia. Neither does letting go, emotionally or physically. When she meets charming Ansel, Mia finds a comfort, an easiness with him that she's never known. With Ansel, she finds herself letting go effortlessly.

Of all the Christina Lauren men, Will Sumner has been my favorite, until now. Maybe. For almost all of my friends, the favorite is Max Stella. It would probably be enough to sell Sweet Filthy Boy for me to simply say that Ansel could easily be compared to Max. If you love Max you're going lose your shit for Ansel. He's charming, sweet, full of enthusiasm for the people and world around him, embracing, has wicked skills in the sexin' department. And best of all, he's so clearly over his head for Mia from the moment he meets her. I love a nice man, a man who is not just out to get in, get out and move on, but who cherishes the woman he wants. If you like genuinely nice, sexy, witty men, Ansel is a sure thing.

Sweet Filthy Boy took a turn near the beginning that surprised me. That little twist also upped the the ante in terms of conflict and the "ohhhhhh shit" factor. Why I didn't see this coming, I couldn't tell you except maybe I was in a lust-haze over Ansel (FYI: there's a name I never thought I'd find remotely sexy). It also leads to Mia running away with Ansel, spending the summer in France. Together, Mia and Ansel... they just fit. In the beginning, with the wild weekend in Las Vegas, Mia is more open, Ansel is more relaxed. They are comfortable together and the sex is insane. What's really interesting, and it does give the story a hefty dose of realism, is the change in the relationship once they're in France. In the real world, Mia isn't seductive and wild, brave.  Ansel's work leaves him exhausted and her lonely. Mia's demeanor puts off a shyness that leaves him tentative. They're still wildly attracted to one another, and they genuinely like each other. The summer is full of discovery, Mia and Ansel truly discovering one another, Mia discovering herself.

Of course, the course of Mia and Ansel's love story does not run smoothly. It wouldn't be a Christina Lauren book without huge event that threatens the relationship, usually breaking my poor heart along with the characters. In this event, I felt so shocked that I had to hold myself. And, it wouldn't be a CL book without the realizations from the characters, the changes that come about a make them stronger. Big character growth. And then we have the beautiful, breathtaking conclusions. Sweet Filthy Boy's made me let out an actual whimper and tears. (Can't decide if I'm not well or just the world's most empathetic reader)

I'm going to finish this review basically the same way I started it. Sweet Filthy Boy was delicious from beginning to end. I loved every moment, every word, even those that hurt. I laughed, found myself getting a bit hot under the V-neck, and swooning for a sweet couple who took a chance on a wild weekend in Las Vegas.

Favorite Quotes

"I wasn't sure I'd see you again." His voice has gone gravelly, hinting of the filthy things I want to hear him growl into my neck. My pulse is a frantic, pounding drum. I wonder if he can see it. "I looked for you."
  He looked for me.

"[..]But you could just..." He looks away, down at the floor. "You could enjoy the city. Paris is the most beautiful city,Cerise. There are endless things to do. You've had a really hard few years and maybe would be happy just having a quiet summer in France." Looking back up at me, he adds quietly, "With me."

I've been helpless before... But never like this. This kind of helpless is liberating; it's what it feels like to have every nerve ending rise to the surface and drink in sensation. It's what it feels like to be touched by someone I trust with my body, trust with my heart.

SERIES REVIEW: BEAUTIFUL BASTARD SERIES, #1 - 2.5 by CHRISTINA LAUREN

Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1)Series: Beautiful Bastard #1
Genre: Erotic Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 2/12/13
Format: Paperback
Pages: 305
Source: Purchase
Rating: 5 stars

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate--and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative--completely infuriating--creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules--or outright smash them--if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

My road with Beautiful Bastard is long and weird. I got the audiobook last summer, and spent the next five months struggling through the first fifty percent of the story. Seriously, I was hating this book. I hated Bennett and Chloe. I hated the narrator. Finally, I DNF'd it. A few days later, I received a copy of Beautiful Player in the mail. I was very hesitant to give it a try, and went into it prepared to read one hundred pages only then DNF it as well. To my surprise, I fell in love with Beautiful Player (Will Sumner!!). I thought it was hilarious, sweet, and sexy. An even bigger surprise? I actually liked Bennett and Chloe, a lot. The dynamic between them was aggressive and sexy and I love the way they kept each other on their toes. It's a dynamic not unlike that I share with my husband, and then I thought "Ohhhhhhh." But that's another story for a different day.

My point is, seeing Chloe and Bennett in the future, in Beautiful Player and Beautiful Beginning, helped me realize that maybe I was wrong, and that I should give Beautiful Bastard another chance. But this time, I decided to read the paperback instead of listen to the audiobook. Best choice, because that narrator was seriously not working for me. I did this series completely ass backward, but because I'm kind of random and weird, it totally worked for me.

I loved Beautiful Bastard. I loved the enemies-in-the-workplace-turned-combatant lovers-turned-true love story. I thought the writing was fun, sexy, and really clever. I liked that Chloe was incredibly strong and uncompromising in her professional life. I love that Bennett had to bend to meet her. I loved seeing that Bastard fall flat into love.

I am so, so, so glad I was wrong.

Favorite Quotes:

"Let's call a truce for one night," I said, pressing three small kisses on her lips, one on each side and a lingering one in the middle, in the heart of her mouth. "Give me all of you for one night, no holding back. Please, Chloe, I'll leave you alone after that but I haven't seen you in almost two weeks and...I just need tonight."

  "I need another night."
She sucked in a breath and stared, and only then did it occur to me that she could be feeling something very different than I was.
"Feel free to say no. I just...." I ran a hand through my hair and looked up at her. "I just would really like to be with you again tonight."

...I wanted to tell her, "This, what we have, is the most amazing thing I have felt. Do you feel it too?" But I had no words. I had only instinct and desire and the taste of her on my tongue and the memory of her laugh ringing in my ears. I wanted to keep that sound playing over and over. I wanted to be everything for her: her lover and sparring partner and friend. In this bed, I could be everything.

Beautiful Bitch (Beautiful Bastard, #1.5)Series: Beautiful Bastard #1.5
Genre: Erotic Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 7/9/13
Format: Paperback
Pages: 160
Source: Purchase
Rating: 5 stars

Picking up where Beautiful Bastard left off, Chloe Mills and Bennett Ryan continue their steamy, combative relationship.

Just when Chloe’s career starts to take off, Bennett wishes it would all slow down long enough to spend a wild night alone with his girlfriend. But after he refuses to take no for an answer, Chloe and Bennett find themselves with two plane tickets, one French Villa, and a surprising conversation that, predictably, leaves them wrestling under the covers.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18061771-beautiful-bitch

I freaking loved Beautiful Bitch. I appreciated learning what happened after the end of Beautiful Bastard, how Bennett and Chloe manage to balance love and work. These two are scarily alike, and that makes for some serious head-butting, and angry, aggressive, balancing, make-up lovin'.

What's really cool about the relationship is that the authors kept it real. Just because Chloe and Bennett are in love and in it for the long road does not mean that their life is blissful and easy. They still bicker, still have battles of wills, still struggle to balance work life, and the fact that Bennett is technically Chloe's boss, in a way.

But what really won me over with Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Bitch? THE LOVE STORY, seeing the powerful and hard-assed Bennett Ryan brought to his knees by love. That kind of devotion and unflinching admission of love is just absolutely gorgeous. It makes this romance lover's heart feel super happy.

Favorite Quotes:

"Tell me you love me," she whispered.
My heart was racing and my blood seemed to pound through my veins. "I love you. Wildly. I'm..." I'd imagined this a thousand different times, but this moment felt way too loaded and my words came out in a breathless rush. Taking a deep breath and closing my eyes, I murmured, "I'm wildly in love with you."

I smiled as I thought back to my mother's advice: "Find a woman who will be your equal in every way. Don't let yourself fall for someone who'll put your world before theirs. Fall for the powerhouse who lives as fearlessly as you do. Find the woman who makes you want to be a better man."
Well, I had found her. Now all I had to do was wait for her to get here, so I could make sure she knew.

Beautiful Stranger (Beautiful Bastard, #2)Series: Beautiful Bastard #2
Genre: Erotic Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 4/16/13
Format: Paperback

Rating: 5 stars

A charming British Playboy. A girl determined to finally live. And a secret liaison revealed in all too vivid color. Book two in the NYT Bestselling series.

Escaping a cheating ex, finance whiz Sara Dillon's moved to New York City and is looking for excitement without a lot of strings attached. So meeting the irresistible, sexy Brit at a dance club should have meant nothing more than a night's fun. But the manner--and speed--with which he melts her inhibitions turns him from a one-time hookup and into her Beautiful Stranger.

The whole city knows Max Stella loves women, not that he's ever found one he particularly wants to keep around. Despite pulling in plenty with his Wall Street bad boy charm, it's not until Sara--and the wild photos she lets him take of her--that he starts wondering if there's someone for him outside of the bedroom.

Hooking up in places where anybody could catch them, the only thing scarier for Sara than getting caught in public is having Max get too close in private.

Goshdangit. (<---that's me, being eloquent) This series is making me eat my words and I freaking love it. First, I didn't like Bennett and Chloe. Then I loved them. Then, I didn't think I would love Beautiful Stranger as much as Beautiful Bastard. And then, I did. It's pretty great when you find a series that is fun and sexy and you completely enjoy each book more and more.

Max and Sara were a delight. He's a British playboy who's never ever been in love. She's been in love and burned badly. They come together in anonymity and hot sex in public places. She doesn't want to fall in love again so soon. He can't help but fall in love with the shy, beautiful woman who comes alive in his arms.

Beautiful Stranger was ridiculously sexy. I mean, WOW. Max and Sara are pretty much my new heroes. It was also fun and charming, because it appears Christina Lauren can't write anything that doesn't amuse me immensely. And best of all, I adored the characters. Max and Sara were totally likable and from the get-go, you just can't help but root for their happy ever after.

Beautiful Stranger was brilliant.

Favorite Quotes:

I was really more like an old star, out of fuel, my own gravity pulling me inward, crushing me. I ran out of energy for my too-perfect life, my too-predictable job, my loveless relationship--exhausted at only twenty-seven. Like a star, my life in Chicago collapsed under the force of its own weight, so I was leaving. Massive stars leave behind black holes. Small stars leave behind white dwarfs. I was barely leaving behind a shadow. All of my light was coming with me. I was ready to start over as a comet: refuel, reignite, and burn across the sky.

Her laughter vibrated along my neck and beneath my skin. I'd never heard her make such a goofy, indelicate sound. Another one of her walls I'd penetrated. Victory surged warm and sharp in my chest, and for a brief pulse I wanted to yell out the window that she was letting me in.

I heard the click of a shutter followed by Max's deep voice. "The way you seem nervous makes me think you don't know that I'm in love with you."

A beautiful bastard of a groom-to-be. A bachelor-party-crashing bride. And one unforgettable night on the Vegas strip.

When Bennett's friends steal him away from Chloe for a weekend of shenanigans and strippers in Vegas, their first stop doesn't exactly go as planned. Their scheme for a guys' weekend completely derailed, Bennett and Max take every chance they get to rendezvous secretly with the women they love. But when the persistently single Will Sumner catches on, the pair realizes they need to team up with him instead of butting heads if they're to escape for more sexy Vegas hookups.

Beautiful Bastard's Chloe Mills and Bennett Ryan are back for one last blazing prewedding hurrah- but if what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, they might not ever want to leave.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17831614-beautiful-player?from_search=true

Okay, Beautiful Bombshell was so much fun! Bennett/Chloe and Max/Sara getting it on all over Las Vegas? Seriously, what's not to love. It was hot. It was hilarious. And at the heart of it, the Beautiful Bastard and his Beautiful Bitch are so completely in love.

As a bonus, this story, with Max and Bennett warning Will- that when he falls in love, it will be just as ridiculously overwhelming- really leads up well to Beautiful Player. I've already read and loved that book, but it made me want to pick up Beautiful Player and Beautiful Beginning all over again.

I'm so happy I gave this series another chance. It's been a blast.

Favorite Quote:

I felt the cool press of her engagement ring, thinking holy shit, this woman is going to be my wife, have my children, share my home and life. She'll see me grow old and most likely insane. She'll promise to love me through all of it.
I lifted myself above her, arms straight so I could watch what I was feeling, moving inside her. But her hands cupped my face, brought my attention back to her eyes.
  "Hey."
I tried to catch my breath, felt sweat drop from my forehead onto her chest. "Yeah?"
She licked her lips, swallowed. "I am so in love with you."

My Teaser ~

"... I'm here to work, to build a life. But inside that boundary..." I trailed off, closing my eyes and just letting the idea take hold. The idea of Max's hands, and his mouth. His sculpted torso and the thick length of him pressing into me again and again. "We can do anything. When I'm with you I don't want to worry about anything else."

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Let me know what you think about my teaser, and I will be sure to come check yours out.

A bombshell bookworm. A chronic Casanova. And a lesson in chemistry too scandalous for school.

When Hanna Bergstrom receives a lecture from her overprotective brother about neglecting her social life and burying herself in grad school, she’s determined to tackle his implied assignment: get out, make friends, start dating. And who better to turn her into the sultry siren every man wants than her brother’s gorgeous best friend, Will Sumner, venture capitalist and unapologetic playboy?

Will takes risks for a living, but he’s skeptical about this challenge of Hanna’s…until the wild night his innocently seductive pupil tempts him into bed- and teaches him a thing or two about being with a woman he can’t forget. Now that Hanna’s discovered the power of her own sex appeal, it’s up to Will to prove he’s the only man she’ll ever need.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17831614-beautiful-player?from_search=true

First Impression ....Sexy cover, but, I did not like the first book. My friends swear this series gets better and better. I hope they're right...

The Story... Hanna needs to get a life. Seriously. In an effort to help his sister, Hanna's brother reconnects her with his best friend Will. The Beautiful Player. Will meets up with Hanna with a mind to help out his friend's little sister, but instead finds a woman. Sure, Hanna's not Will's usual conquest. She is a blunt, funny, unassuming, and quirky genius, all wrapped up in a naturally beautiful package. Will quickly realizes he wants more with Hanna. But Hanna, who's long-term crush on Will may finally come to fruition, is all too familiar with Will's reputation. She needs his help perfecting the art of sex and dating, but is determined not to fall in love with him. Soon, the undeniable chemistry leads them to crossing the lines between friendship and a relationship. Hanna is reluctant, and Will is left to prove he is worth the chance. And that together, they can have it all.

The Characters ... In a word, perfection. Hanna is an every woman. She's not a fashionista, or worldly. Hanna is unsure of her abilities in the dating world, but she was not an unsure or weak character. She was beautifully honest, and blunt. I adored that she almost said literally whatever popped into her head. I loved that she was bold and curious about sexuality. I loved her with Will.

Will Sumner..... (excuse my while I swooooooon). A long-time player and assuredly a breaker of hearts, Will is no jackass. He is always upfront with the women who come and go in his life, but that gentle honesty is put to the test with Hanna. For the first time, Will is the lover who is holding back, afraid of pushing her away with declarations. Will wants Hanna, but also wants her to be happy, even if that's not with him. The way he cared for Hanna makes him an automatic winner. The way he "taught" Hanna makes him a (book) man to covet.

The main characters from Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Stranger all make appearances in Beautiful Player. I have a friend who's been trying to force Beautiful Stranger (specifically Max) on me, but I started with book one. I recently set that book aside because I just could not get into it. Looking back, that might be partially due to the audio book narrator and not the actual story. Seeing the characters now, I am willing to give BB another try. I'll also credit that to my best friend. I mentioned to her that I didn't like Chloe and Bennett. Her reply, "That's funny, because you and Eric (my husband) act a lot like Chloe and Bennett."

Challenge accepted. I really liked all of these characters in Beautiful Player, even Chloe and Bennett and will definitely go back and give them another try. Plus, I can't go around hating a character that my best friend has compared to me, now can I?

The Writing ....Here's where I eat a big ol' slice of humble pie. After getting through only half of book one, I was ready to write this series off. If I hadn't received a copy from the publisher in the mail, I would have. And you know, I would have been missing out on a kickass story. Beautiful Player was thoughtful, so fun, and so sexy. I don't know if the difference is me or the writing, but I am stunned by the remarkable difference in this series between books.  Here's how drastic the change was: I gave book one only one star. I went into this book resigned to the fact I would likely hate it, and would quit after one hundred obligatory pages. But, I fell in love with this book within one chapter. I laughed hysterically, did some hardcore fanning at the steam, and truly, truly loved this book. I gave it five very enthusiastic stars.

The Heat ... SMOKIN'!! Beautiful Player was deliciously wicked. That's a fact. But what made it stand out for me was that it was also thoughtful in how the sex and romance played out between Hanna and Will. Hanna asks Will to teach her how to perform various acts, and he does so happily. Hanna is an enthusiastic student, willing for anything, but she enjoys and has fun with it. But Will, he is actually learning as much as Hanna. He is learning the act of making love. Of finding something beautiful in an act of physical and emotion connection.

I also appreciated that the authors seemed to portray the intimacy in a realistic manner. In sex, Will and Hanna had fun. It wasn't perfect. It was raw and messy and fun and intimate and just honest and real.

Could I Put Beautiful Player Down? .... Only when life and utter exhaustion forced me too. I could not get enough of Will and Hanna.

In the End...  I adored Beautiful Player. It was so sexy, and so much fun. I will definitely give this series another chance. I'm not sure that I was wrong about Beautiful Bastard, but I know enough to realize I should definitely give it another try.

She'd looked over and caught me; the energy between us palpable, and confusing as fuck. And when she smiled, it lit up her whole face. She looked as open as a screen door in the summer, and despite the temperature, something warmed in my veins. It was an old, yet familiar hunger. A desire I hadn't felt in forever, where my blood filled with adrenaline and I wanted to be the only one to discover a particular girl's secrets.

"See, the problem with boobs is if you have big ones, you can never look thin. You get these burns on your shoulders from bra straps, and your back hurts. And unless you're using them for their intended purpose, they're always in the way."
"In the way of what? My hands? My face? Don't you blaspheme in here." He looked up to the sky. "She didn't mean it, Lord. Promise."
Ignoring him, I said, "That's why I had a reduction when I was twenty-one," which was when his expression morphed into one of horror.
You'd have thought I told him I made an amazing stew from tiny babies and puppy tongues.
"Why on earth would you do that? That's like God giving you a beautiful gift and you kicking him in the nuts."
I laughed. "God? I thought you were agnostic, Professor."
"I am. But if I could motorboat perfect tits like yours I might be able to find Jesus."

My chest warmed intensely when it occurred to me: this was our beginning. Right here, partially hidden by the steam of the shower was where we clarified everything.

Back when not being able to stand each other also meant not being able to keep their hands off each other in Beautiful Bastard, neither Bennett nor Chloe could have seen this day coming.

An exasperated bride who just wants to elope. A determined groom whose only focus is getting to the wedding night. And—of course—a whole lot of name calling.

Once upon a time, a reader named Andrea (that would be me) decided she didn't like the Beautiful Bastard series. But luckily, Andrea gave the series another try and decided she was wrong, wrong, WRONG. She doesn't mind being wrong, not when that means she has landed upon a deliciously wicked, raunchy, hilarious, and yes, sweet series.

The irony that I loved Beautiful Beginning and rated it five stars is not lost on me. When I read the first half of Beautiful Bastard, I was not impressed with Chloe and Bennett. It seemed that all they did was fight and fuck. And while that may be true, it is very clear that the two made it past the rocky beginning and found a beautiful life together. And once it was gently pointed out to me that *sigh* I can be a bit of a ball buster, and my guy and I bicker and spar for fun (and foreplay), then I could see and appreciate Chloe and Bennett for the fiery and dynamic individuals they were.

I am grateful that I read Beautiful Player, causing me to completely reconsider this series. I fell in love with Will and Hanna in that story, but I also became more interested in Chloe and Bennett. In turn, that pushed me to read Beautiful Beginning, and wow, it is one freaking ridiculously fantastic novella. I laughed until I cried, I swooned until I nearly cried and then I cried cried at the beauty of their love.

I happily stand corrected on the Beautiful Bastard series. I intend to start this series from the beginning, with a quickness.

  My Chloe.
Everything seemed to settle at once and for the first time in my life, absolutely nothing else mattered. Not deadlines or work, just this. My brain--which thrived on spreadsheets and order and managing every detail of my life and the lives of those around me--had gone quiet. Not in an unpleasant way, but in a way that finally said, take a seat and pay attention because this moment is bigger than you and every decision you've ever made.   ~pg. 147

  "Holy shit. You're my wife."
Laughing, I said, "We're married. That's insane. Who let this happen?"
He didn't even break a smile. Instead, his eyes grew heavy, his voice even lower. "I'm going to disrespect the fuck out of you later."    ~pg. 161

"We're married," he said quietly, pressing another kiss to my belly button. "I'm your safe place. I've always been your safe place."
I slid my hands into his hair, pulling gently and knowing he was right. I'd been my best and worst self with this man, and he only loved me more the more real I was with him. No place was safer for me than with Bennett.   ~pg. 181
