Kate Winters has become the perfect aristocratic wife and mother in her adopted homeland of Great Britain. She manages her husband’s cold, demanding family while armed with a grudging Stepford smile and a proper strand of pearls. When her precious boys go away to boarding school and her absentee husband leaves this “domestic goddess” to her own devices, she ends up baking…a lot. Her newfound passion for the kitchen quickly turns her prim and proper life upside down when her cookbooks become best-sellers and she finds herself in talks for a TV deal.

After Kate’s new celebrity life seems to have settled into one that's familiar, if not happy, Anders Larsen throws her for a loop. Anders is not only the leading man in Kate’s favorite TV show, he’s also Hollywood's hottest commodity and the star of her most secret erotic fantasies. One night with Anders turns into so much more, causing her perfectly manicured grip to slip, and she begins to lose control of her buttoned up life. It was only supposed to be one night, but the off-the-charts chemistry and amazing sex are temptations Kate can’t resist.

She begins to believe she can balance this double life until rumors of her sexy affair surface on the Internet. Kate has a choice to make: return to her safe but stale marriage—and her best chance for saving her new career—or taking a chance on the life she could have with the man she loves.

What price is “Saint Kate of the Cupcake” willing to pay for a chance at happiness?

My Thoughts

This is a brave book. A heroine who jumps into an extramarital affair isn't exactly an easy sell. There are several authors who've made me understand and sympathize, and to be honest, I was never fully sold on this in Saint Kate. But, it's not exactly the Kate's story that didn't sell me, but the way it was told.

It's hard for me to briefly explain this, but here goes. The narrative employed a lot of telling versus showing. I was told how Kate felt, and her reasons for the affair, but never experienced a lot the emotions throughout much of the book. I felt like a lot of aspects were implied. I was told her husband was distant, but didn't really see it. I didn't feel the aching loneliness. We do get more details about her marriage later, and a big revelation about the husband, but I never understood why so much was withheld for so long. It felt like too little, too late.

What I liked most about Saint Kate was Anders, the man she fell in love with, and was on board with the affair. I know that sounds weird, but he was a nice man who fell in love. And prepared to go the distance.

I do want to warn, though, there's a sexual assault towards the end. It wasn't heavily detailed, but almost felt manipulative. So those who are sensitive to that should go in with the heads-up.

So in the end, I really wanted to love Saint Kate of the Cupcake, but I ended up liking most of it. The first half was slow and lacked a heavy emotional punch. The second half was a lot better, because the emotions were there and we finally get more details about Kate's marriage and her life with and without Anders.

I don't whole-heartedly recommend this book, but I did end up liking aspects. The ending was very nice, with an epilogue that made me smile.

The first sexy installment in Shelly Bell's four-part serialized erotic thriller about a young law student who must go undercover at a sex club to prove her client is not guilty of murder.

Driven by ambition …Third-year law student Kate Martin outran her tragic past to become an intern for her idol and secret crush, the powerful attorney Nicholas Trenton. She is thrilled when Nick assigns her to represent his best friend and client, millionaire Jaxon Deveroux … the prime suspect in his submissive wife Alyssa's murder.

Seduced by desire …Kate knows they have only a few days to find the real killer, and since signs point to a member of the BDSM community, she volunteers to go undercover as Jaxon's submissive at Benediction—the private sex club where he is a member—to covertly investigate Alyssa's last few months. For years, Kate has kept her dark fantasies a secret … but a chance to explore them with sexy, dominant Jaxon is just too tempting to pass up.

My Thoughts
I love serialized novellas, so was anxious to start the White Collared series. Guys, it just didn't work for me. This was due to my lack of being able to suspend disbelief. First we have a law intern being assigned to represent a high-powered millionaire who's accused of murdering his wife. Okay, I didn't go to law school, but really? Could that really happen? I have a couple of attorneys in the family, but was afraid they would laugh at me if I asked them about this. Another thing is, the heroine, the aforementioned intern attorney, also goes undercover with the defendant to his BDSM club to uncover the true murderer. Sounds like solid logic. To be fair, she has apparently read FSoG multiple times so she's boned-up on all aspects of BDSM. Then there's the whole chemistry she shares with both her boss and the defendant. It was just a clusterfuck in my (apparently crabby) opinion. And lastly, the guilty party. I guessed whom that person was at the beginning, but that "Nah, that's too obvious." I finished the first installment, not super excited, but willing to give part two a try. Then I continued to be annoyed, skipped to the end of the series to see if I was right. I was. That just burned me up so I dnf'd the series.

I don't know. If I was into BDSM, I would be severely annoyed by a lot of the fictionalized representations of the community.

On the plus side, the writing was really good. So there's that.

So. Have you read either of these books? Did you love them? Hate them? Think I'm way off base here? Let me know!

Rating:

The sexy baseball players of Jennifer Seasons' Diamonds and Dugouts series slide into home with a final fiery romance worthy of a World Series win.

Nightclub manager Leslie Cutter has never been one to back down from a bet. So when Peter Kowalskin, pitcher for the Denver Rush baseball team, bets her that she can't keep her hands off of him, she's not about to let the arrogant, gorgeous playboy win. Especially when the prize could put her business on the map. She's got this in the bag, just so long as she can stay out of his arms … and his bed.

Peter struck out once before with Leslie, but this bet is sure to be the second chance he's been waiting for. Determined to stoke the passion he knows is there, he'll do anything to win—even if it means playing a little dirty.

But as things heat up, this combustible pair will have to decide just how much they're willing to wager on one another … and on a future that just might last forever.

(My best friend Autumn, at Autumn Review, recently visited me. Both being big fans of the Diamonds and Dugouts series, we decided to read and review together.)

We've been pretty excited for Leslie and Peter's book since Stealing Home. Did it live up to your expectations?

Andrea: It did! I've always thought Leslie was a ton of fun, Peter too. And the chemistry between them was so hot even in the first two books. I just knew Throwing Heat would be great.

Autumn:  I loved it! I love Peter AND Leslie. What did you think of the prologue? I always wondered about how their chemistry originated.

Andrea:  I loved the prologue. I assumed their "beginning" was probably good and it was. I was unprepared for how emotionally vulnerable they both were.

Autumn:  Me too! Leslie has always been portrayed as a confident, no nonsense chick. Peter, the prankster.

Peter and Leslie had some serious sexual chemistry. How did you feel about the pull and push that seemed to be a theme throughout the book?

Andrea:  Well, there was a lot of push and pull, and not always the fun kind. If you know what I mean.... These two were definitely guarding their hearts, and if we hadn't been shown why, it would have been too frustrating. I think when you take in the insecurities, it's understandable.
Autumn:  Agree. There was a lot of build up. But, I got it and it still got me steamed up a bit.

Andrea:  Ohmygosh, YES! Kowalskin was hot & knew how to treat a lady well. He was dedicated.

Autumn:  He sure was. He was definitely focused on her pleasure.

You and I are baseball fans. How much did you love the scenes with the players and their games?

Autumn:  You know I have soft spot for baseball players. I love all the guys and I got excited during the game scenes.

Andrea:  Yes! And I'm not ashamed to say I got a tear in my eye and all choked up when the Rush won big.
Autumn:  Me too!!! I had butterflies.

Autumn: There was a bit of a surprise for Peter later in the book. It's hard to talk about it without revealing spoilers, but I was a bit surprised and curious to see if Seasons plans to finish out the side plot.
Andrea:  Definitely! I would think that there must be more at play there. It was way too big to not be addressed. I guess we shall see...

Who would you like to see a book about next?

Autumn:  I'm hoping for Paulson. Maybe the cute, bashful, redhead nurse may capture his attention.

Andrea:  Yay! Me too! I'm very curious about him because he's supposedly not attractive, but has a great personality, and gets a ton of tail. I don't think it's just because he's a pro ball player.

Autumn:  He has a magnetic personality I think.

So...now that we know more about Peter, who's your favorite?

Andrea:  Oh boy, I was just waiting for this question! Okay.... Mark Cutter is my #1 because he has a super dirty mouth and dark blond hair. Next would be Peter, then JP. You?
Autumn:  Peter is my top pick. He has a little rough to him, but he's also a deep thinker. Plus...he loves to read and wears glasses! Then, I'd say Mark, JP and I'd add Paulson in lady because he makes me giggle with his afro.
Andrea:  Agreed! And don't forget the epic chest hair.

Autumn: Green afro's and chest hair

Andrea:  GREEN GIANT!

So, I think it's safe to say we both enjoy the series and look want it to continue?

Andrea:  I would love for it to continue. Here's hoping.

Autumn: This book was my favorite in the series so far. I'm looking forward to more. Although I think Peter will always be my favorite.

Andrea:  Peter will be hard to top. If the series is over, his and Leslie's story is a great way to end it.

Describe Throwing Heat in five words?

Andrea:  Sweet, Funny, Sad, Sexy, and Romantic

Autumn:  Exciting, sexy, frustrating, sweet, promising

Andrea:  Nailed it! I'm really happy we read this series and that we read Throwing Heat together.

Autumn: Me too! Cheers!

Riding the wave, Peter was laughing and smiling when he looked into the stands and saw Leslie. She had her hands to her mouth. When she spotted him looking at her, she dropped her hands from her mouth and waved, her smile absolutely beaming. And he felt the echo of it inside him wrap warm around his heart.

{REVIEW} BLUE BY YOU by RACHEL GIBSON

Blue By YouGenre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Publication Date: 9/3/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 100
Source: Received from publisher for review
Rating: 4 stars

Rachel Gibson, the New York Times bestselling author of Crazy On You and Rescue Me, once again shows that there's nothing quite like a man in uniform!

They say you never forget your first time, but there's nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She's tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he's got the nerve to return—leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue's a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. But Kasper knows she's the one woman for him … and now he's got to prove it to her all over again.

I recently read Run to You by Rachel Gibson, and enjoyed it. In Run to You, we briefly meet Kasper Pennington. When I realized Blue by You was a novella featuring Kasper and his second chance at love, I happily dove into this story.

Blue by You was so, so good! I love novellas, though this was such a good story and I would've been thrilled with a full-length novel. This was such a sweet story of an amazing connection between a young man and woman from rival families, and the second chance the receive twenty- two years later. Despite its length, Blue by You had a well-developed story and characters in Kasper and Blue.

Though I adored both Kasper and Blue, and their second chance, what truly pushed Blue by You fully into my heart was the setting. Blue by You is set in southern Louisiana, and the author did an amazing job of incorporating everything that makes Louisiana so special into the story. There were crawfish boils, street music, and mentions of the landscape and architecture that makes that state a piece of heaven. It was so great, and I became so homesick for my former home that my heart hurt a tiny bit.

Blue by You is my favorite of the two Rachel Gibson stories I've read. She has a way of quickly pulling you into a story. Combine that with comfortable and fun stories, and that is why Contemporary Romance is my favorite.

Favorite Quote:

"Believe it or not, we have better things to do at Dahlia Hall than gossip about your family."
"Like marry your cousins and make big-headed babies?"
Weren't the Pennington men supposed to be sugar-mouthed? "That hasn't happened in a hundred years!" Or so.   ~eARC, 23%

"I love you, Blue." He buried his face in the top of her hair. "I'm sorry I was a coward all those years ago. If you give me the chance, I'll show you that I'm not the man at forty-three that I was at twenty-one. Hell, I am not even the man I was a week ago." He pulled back and cupped her face. "I look at you, and I see something I haven't seen in a very long time. I see a woman I love. I look at you, and I see a future. When I look at you, I see something I've never seen before. I see forever."  ~eARC, 70%

Good girls don't steal.
Good girls don't visit sex shops.
Good girls don't have one-night stands.

For Katie Conners, being a good girl just isn't worth it anymore. It used to mean getting the life she always wanted. But that was before she got dumped and her ex got engaged to his rebound. So, after a bad day and one too many mojitos, Katie starts making a list of things a girl like her would never do, not in a million years . . .

As a tattoo artist with a monster motorcycle, Chase Trepasso isn't the kind of guy you bring home to mom and dad.

And when he finds Katie's list in a bar, he's more than happy to help her check off a few items. Especially the ones on the naughtier side . . .

Katie's more than tempted by Chase's offer, as long as they keep things uncomplicated. But as they spend more time together, she may just wind up breaking the most important rule of all: Good girls don't fall in love with bad boys.

So I'm sitting here wondering why I thought Things Good Girls Don't Do would be a dark and twisty story. My guess would be the cover. Never mind that it doesn't really fit the characters, it doesn't fit the tone of the story, either. What Things Good Girls Don't Do actually is, is a small town romance with a good girl-bad boy angle. Luckily for me, I'm a sucker for small town romance, and also of bad boys who only look bad, but definitely know how to treat a girl right.

I sometimes find myself getting tired of the naive, goody-two-shoes heroine. I'm sorry, I know I'm letting my gender down by being picky and judgmental, but it's true. In this book, though, I really enjoyed Katie. She's the town's good girl, treated like a doormat and ruled with a judgmental eye by her now-deceased mother. When Katie realizes she's still being confined by the rules, and that they've not gotten her ahead, she makes a list of no-nos that she wants to break, things good girls don't do.

So that is the heart of the story, Katie learning to come out of her shell and take complete control of her life, with the help of sexy newcomer Chase. I really felt for Chase, a good guy with a bit of a rough exterior. It's hard enough living in a small, judgmental town but when you're a newbie, it's ridiculous. People assumed because Chase had tattoos, owned a parlor, and drove a motorcycle that he was coarse and uneducated. Of course Katie and Chase's plan to not become emotionally attached, lasts about 2.5 minutes and everyone can see these two are more involved than they're letting on, maybe even falling in love. The only problem is, when with Katie and Chase realize and confess that they each want more?

Things Good Girls Don't Do had a great secondary cast that really helped move the story forward rather than just fill space. Katie great friends, Becca and Steph, who had her back and also provided a lot of comic relief. And in addition to Katie's journey, there's Chase's own issues and past with his mom. This sub-plot gave good insight into his choices and hesitation throughout the story.

This book had less steam than I was prepared for, but that's okay because what we got was really good. Chase was always flirty and (nicely) pushing Katie's boundaries. The two had loads of sexual chemistry, and the banter and innuendo between the two was a lot of fun.

Things Good Girls Don't Do wasn't the book I expected, buy I actually believe that it worked to my advantage. It was fun, charming, and sexy. I would definitely read more of the author's work in the future.

Favorite Quotes:

BLOG TOUR: CRAVE by MONICA MURPHY ~ REVIEW, GUEST POST AND GIVEAWAY

Welcome to The Bookish Babe's stop on the Crave Blog Tour.
This tour was coordinated by InkSlinger PR. My stop includes a review and the tour giveaway. For all the tour stops, visit the homepage.
Series: Billionaire Bachelors Club #1
Category/Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Publication Date: 8/6/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 256
Source: Received from publisher for review
Rating: 4.5 stars

Billionaire Archer Bancroft always gets what he wants—and he’s wanted Ivy Emerson, his best friend’s sister, for far too long. Being forbidden and untouchable only makes her more tempting. When a million-dollar bet with his friends throws down a challenge—last bachelor standing takes all—Archer knows he can win. That is, until one enchanted evening with Ivy takes his heart for a ride.
Ivy knows Archer is nothing but bad news: Infuriating, arrogant…and completely intoxicating. But despite her best efforts, she can’t seem to keep away. When a stolen kiss leads to a night of heated passion, Ivy realizes she’s in trouble and in head over heels.

But in the light of day, everything seems clearer and Archer’s not so sure a one-night stand is all he wants. Concocting a plan to keep Ivy by his side, Archer might just be willing to lose this bet…and win the jackpot instead.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Monica Murphy's. So when she announced she would be writing the Billionaire Bachelor's Club for Avon, which also happens to be a favorite publisher of mine, I was more than a little excited. Let me break Crave down for you: Sexy, Fun, Romantic, Damn Sexy. Yes, I know I said sexy twice. Crave earned it.

Here's where I make an admission: I was a teeny bit worried about Crave. Like I said, I love Murphy's books, but there are a ton of "Billionaire" books out there, and I wondered how this one would stand out from the rest. No worries here, because just as she put a unique and beautiful spin on her New Adult series, Drew + Fable, Murphy created a billionaire story that felt fresh to me.

I think what made Crave so enjoyable for me was that Archer and Ivy were so likeable. Yes, Archer is a billionaire, but he's not a rude, bossy man who is defined by it. Yes, he's be known as a womanizer, but he's not mean, and you don't really see that part of him in Crave.

What you do see is a man who has always been above love and romance, but has been hopelessly smitten with his best friend's younger sister for years. When you meet Ivy, you can see why she stands out from the rest. I adored Ivy Emerson. Since Ivy has known Archer for so long and grew up in the same affluence, she  wasn't a intimidated by Archer or his money. I loved that though Ivy finds Archer to be beyond attractive, she isn't willing just to give in to him. She is stubborn and snarky, but also a really passionate woman who knows what she wants. She doesn't shrink away or bow down to Archer, she matches him toe-to-toe. These two are  quite the perfect match.

When I was getting ready to start reading Crave, I miiiiight have warned my guy that I was going to be reading a Monica Murphy book, and I miiiiight have given him the side eye. By might, I mean that I out-and-out warned him that I would be getting steamed up. And by side eye, I mean that I winked a few times and probably made an obscene gesture. (It should be noted that I'm basically as mature as a 15yo) Let's just say that Ms. Monica Murphy knows her way around the sexy scenes and there were several times I needed an ice bath.

Crave was a complete WIN for me. The story was sweet, fun, and sexy. I enjoyed Archer and Ivy and rooted for their happy ending (in more ways than one). Once again, Monica Murphy has delivered a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend. So go read it, I'll just be sitting here waiting on book two, Torn.

Closing my eyes, I press my forehead to hers, breathing hard, trying to keep my shit together. I turn my head and bite along her neck, soothing the nips with little flicks of my tongue, and she releases a shuddering sigh, my name falling from her lips.  ~eARC, 71%

10 Things Archer wants you to know about Ivy

Um, a certain woman named Monica Murphy told me I had to tell you all the ten things I want you all to know about Ivy.

Here’s the deal: there’s a hell of a lot I don’t want you to know about Ivy because she’s mine. Mine mine mine and I don’t care how greedy I sound, what goes on between me and Ivy is private. My big mouth has gotten me into trouble before and the last thing I want to do is piss off Ivy because a mad Ivy is a scary Ivy…

But I got Ivy’s permission to share these particular facts so let’s go. In no particular order, here are ten things about Ivy:

1. She’s talented—and I’m not talking sexually, though she’s talented in that area too (winces, I’m really asking for it already, aren’t I?). I mean that she’s talented in her profession, which is interior design. What she came up with for the opening of my new hotel was nothing short of amazing.

2. She’s feisty as hell. We’ve known each other for what feels like forever, since I was a teenager and she was an awkward preteen. We argued all the time. I said the worst things to her and she gave as good as she got. Being the sick twisted soul that I am, as we got older and that mouth of hers got feistier, it sort of turned me on. (Fine it really turned me on)

3. She’s loyal to a fault. We might’ve fought during those early years (okay, up until we finally got together), but she’s always watched out for me. Defended me. Consoled me when I was sad. She has a soft heart and I love that.

4. She makes me want to lose control. Gladly.

5. She makes me forget other women even exist. All I can see is her when I’m with her.

6. Being with Ivy brings a bonus—my best friend, Gage. So when we get married (because come on, I’m so gone over that woman, I’m going to make her mine on a permanent basis), Gage now becomes my brother. Awesome.

7. So Ivy brings her family with her and I love that because I’m not that particularly close with my parents. It feels good to be a part of a loving family.

8. She’s taught me how to love. I’ve never been in love before until her. It’s both scary and exciting.

9. She snores. She’s going to kill me for admitting this one but screw it. She snores and I have to give her a little nudge so she stops and then she starts back up again. It’s not that loud and it’s kind of cute but sometimes, it’s kind of annoying.

10. She’s not perfect and she can admit it. I love that most about her. She has her faults, I have my faults and together, our faults tend to cancel each other out. We’re a perfect couple. Even if she does snore.

BLOG TOUR: PLAYING THE FIELD by JENNIFER SEASONS ~ REVIEW, GUEST POST, AND EXCERPT

Welcome to The Bookish Babe's stop on the Playing the Field Blog Tour! As a big fan of the series, I am so excited to be taking part in this tour, hosted by Avon. My stop includes a review, guest post, and excerpt from author Jennifer Seasons.

Playing The Field (Diamonds and Dugouts #2)Series: Diamonds & Dugouts #2
Category/Genre: Adult Contemporary/Sports Romance
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Publication Date: 7/23/13
Format: eARC
Source: Received from publisher for review

Single mother Sonny Miller has spent years avoiding love. A rotten childhood and an even rottener ex-boyfriend left her determined to protect her son—and herself—against the risks of romance. That is, until hotshot ballplayer JP Trudeau swaggers into her carefully constructed life, all sin-with-me eyes and irresistible grin. Sonny can't help but feel drawn to the sexy, confident man, even as every fiber of her being tells her to keep running the bases . . .

JP is known for being fast on his feet, not fast with his heart. But meeting Sonny and her boy sparks something in him—something he's never felt before, not from all the cleat-chasers in the major leagues. Sonny may be hell-bent on keeping him at arm's length no matter what, but this rookie has a plan. To get the girl, he must step up to the plate and convince her to take another chance on love . . . before this game gets rained out.

When I read Stealing Home earlier this year, I had such a great time. I enjoyed the story, and the characters, especially Mark and the other members of the Rush baseball team.  There were a few teammates who really caught my eye, JP Trudeau was one of them. He was a doll, and I knew that I would love him even more in his own book.

JP did not disappoint in Playing the Field. His is the type of character I always enjoy reading. He was cute, sweet, loyal and charming. That's not to say he was perfect, and boring. JP had enough swagger to keep his sweetheart Sonny on her toes, and me as well. What I loved most about JP, was his willingness to fall in love.

When JP first sees Sonny, he realizes she is the woman of his dreams. It doesn't matter to him that she is a few years older, doesn't lead a glamorous life, and she has a ten year-old son. With her regular life, Sonny is the kind of woman a lot of us can relate to. I love having heroines that lead the same type of life that I do, and even though I'm not single, I could empathize with her being torn between love and motherhood.

Playing the Field is not only a love story, but also about two people who must face hard truths about themselves before they can even begin to be a couple. JP has issues with compromise and thinking about someone else's wants over his own. Due to her lack of a stable family, Sonny has severe abandonment issues. With JP, though, she must almost face feelings of inferiority in the face of love with a hot, young baseball star. Then there's motherhood. Sonny must constantly weigh what she wants with what is best for her son. Her continued struggle is realistic, but I will admit to getting frustrated with Sonny more than once.

Playing the Field is a nice addition to the Diamonds and Dugouts series. Stealing Home, with it's super intense and hot-blooded leading characters, was the more fun of the two for me to read, but I still liked this one quite a lot. I have a strong suspicion whom the next story in the series will be about, and if I'm right, it has potential to rock!

Favorite Quotes:

Forced to look down, Sonny's eyes went wide when she realized she was staring directly at his package. The bulge was anything but humble. Dear god. Try as she might, she couldn't take her eyes off it. It was like standing in  front of Michaelangelo's David and trying not to take a peek at his goods. It just wasn't happening. Problem was, once you got started, it was nearly impossible to stop.
  It was hypnotic.   ~eARC, 15%

"Anytime." Because he couldn't resist, JP put his sunglasses on and grinned, quick and hot as lightning. "Thanks for the kiss, sweetness. It was damn sexy."    ~ eARC, 16%

GUEST POST

Everyone loves a sports star. Even the people who hate them, love them. Something about their confidence and energy is almost magnetic. They ooze charisma.
When they walk by people notice.

And that, my friends, is exactly why athletes make great romance heroes. What woman is going to turn her nose up at a physically fit and strong man who clearly knows how to go for what he wants—and actually mean it? The answer is that there is no woman.

Athletes are the epitome of masculinity. They are focused, driven, confident, capable men who aren’t afraid to put it all out there over and over again. No matter what comes at them they meet it head on, without flinching. They stare down obstacles with challenge in their eyes.

Now, imagine that singular testosterone-filled focus turned on you?

Um, yeah. That’s what I thought.

Now you know a little bit how Sonny felt the first time she laid eyes on JP Trudeau in my new release PLAYING THE FIELD. To give you a better idea of her reaction, I’ve included a small teaser. Enjoy!

EXCERPT

Sonny, now, she’d not been nearly so grounded. She’d flown all over the map and landed herself on the wrong side of twenty, pregnant and alone. Charlie being born had given her a path. Once she’d stepped on it she’d dedicated everything she’d had to it, including her autonomy. Nurturing her baby and building a good life had been all she’d thought about and lived since the day she’d brought him home from the hospital.

Now he was growing up and grasping at some autonomy of his own. Their relationship was changing—slowly, but still evolving into something different. Something with a little more space.

That new and exotic little bit of wiggle room had opened a fissure in Sonny, just a teeny little crack. But it was enough, and something newly awakened inside her was feeling a little restless. A little flighty. She didn’t like it one bit. It wasn’t safe or predictable or familiar.

It was foreign and she was domestic.

Which made it the enemy. The life that she’d carved out for the two of them was stable. She knew how to handle it and felt in charge. Anything different was not okay. It left things open to change. And if things changed then she might lose her grip on control. Status quo was good. It didn’t hold any surprises.

She wasn’t looking for them anyway. So when the herd of large-boned people shifted and her gaze landed on a green and yellow Rush jersey, number thirty-nine, she felt a slip—just a subtle shift of the earth on its axis. But it was enough. The world moved under her feet. And when the sin-with-me eyes locked on her from twenty feet away she felt a tremble in her grip on control.

Because she was suddenly hit with instinct and knew beyond a doubt that, from this moment forward, nothing in her life was going to be quite the same.

The sky opened up and the universe showed her a very simple and clear truth in one lightning-quick moment. It was written all over his sinner’s grin and loose-hipped swagger.

JP Trudeau was a whole lot of trouble.
