It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.

I'm going to get off to a completely shallow start and say... Look at that cover. Let's not kid ourselves, the cover will play a significant factor into readers giving Worth the Fight a chance. I know it definitely played a part in my decision. But, also a big factor was that I have previously read two of Keeland's other books - Made for You and Belong to You - and really enjoyed them. In the end, one can only hope that a cover that hot is backed by a good story.

Worth the Fight was a truly enjoyable book. It has several aspects that always work for me. The characters were likeable. Elle is a hard-working young attorney who takes her job seriously, but wasn't a perfectionist. She's perpetually late for appointments, something I can relate to, and I liked that she does do a good job, but wasn't annoyingly perfect. Elle finds herself coasting along in life, and seems to be woken up by the presence of Nico. Now, based on the cover, you get a pretty clear picture of what Nico may be like. Yes, he's a tatted up, fighter, but didn't seem like a "bad boy" at all. In fact, he hardly mentions a life of parties and women. I'm sure that it's implied that he has a bit of wild past, but it wasn't in the reader, or Elle's, face. Nico just seems like a genuinely good guy, a motivated fighter and businessman, and completely devoted to winning Elle.

Another aspect to Worth the Fight that worked for me was the nice, tolerable level of angst. Nico and Elle both have demons from their past. Nico's is in the forefront, Elle's is buried. It does play a part in their story, their motivations and decisions, but it didn't seem to take over and run the story, or overdone just for the sake of it.

Being that Worth the Fight is the third book of Keeland's I've read, I have a sense for her writing style, and I like it. This book was no exception. The writing is fluid and pulled me in instantly. I think I can speak for nearly all readers when I say that finding an author that will consistently deliver a well-written enjoyable story is invaluable.

Worth the Fight is a standalone novel. I happen to love a good standalone, but I would definitely enjoy more. Luckily, I love companion stories, and it seems that there will be a companion book, Worth the Chance, about a secondary character. It's already on my 2014 to-read list.

Favorite Quotes:

"You're smart and confident and the people around you seem to love you." He stops and watches me, I can tell hi is deciding to continue. "And when I look into your eyes I see a little light flicker..."
He pauses for a second. I look at him, but still don't speak.
"And for the last twenty-four hours all I could think about was what it would take for me to turn that flicker into a flame."   ~eARC, 11%

"Mine." It's the first word he says to me and the last before his lips crash down on me in the most wildly, sensual, seductive, possessive kiss I've ever had. One of his hands snakes around the back of my neck and he pulls me tighter to him. I feel the inexplicable need to chase away every single molecule that is between us, until there's nothing left but me and him. Being held together tighter than I've ever been held isn't good enough. I need him inside of me. To be part of me. To be one indivisible body that shares the breath that fills both our lungs.  ~eARC, 70%

About the author:
Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!

  1. Let's kid not, I cannot stop staring at that cover. I mean wow. I'm well speechless. I like the sound of idea and I'm glad you enjoyed this one :)

  2. Wow - this cover is HAWT!! I've never read anything by Keeland before, but maybe I need to remedy that. :)

  3. Great review. And just look at that cover. So sizzling. This definitely intrigues me :)

  4. Yeah that cover really is all sorts of gorgeous. Good thing the inside is just as good! This sounds like something I would really enjoy. Great review.

  5. I agree the cover plays an important part in whether a person selects a book - and that cover is glorious. I enjoyed the review and am very happy to learn this is a great stand alone book. I love such books and am always happy to find great new authors. I don't like romance for the sake of romance and this certainly isn't that. I can't wait to discover what secrets the attorney is hiding. Thanks for sharing. michelle_willms@yahoo.com

  6. Love this review! Nico and Elle were a great couple! I didn't know there would be a companion book! Thanks for that info and great quote choices babe!

  7. Heck yeah!! I choose my books by the covers and this one is going on my TBR list!! That said, I also enjoy likable characters. If the protagonist is annoying or too pretty or too rich, etc. then I don't find myself as interested in her story. Glad that Elle and Nico seem like enjoyable characters.

  8. The covers always sell me one way or the other on books these days -> love it!!

  9. I love this cover! I'm glad you enjoyed this and that the characters' demons didn't overtake the plot. I find that can get tiring. Great review!

  10. That's a big positive for me that the angst was too overdone. I tend to avoid a lot of books because of that. This one sounds pretty great though!

  11. Her covers are indeed eye catching and will really make you want to buy the book just to drool over the covers.

I'm not into MMA themed novels but I can only imagine how intense the story is. You can't be that angry to beat people up for recreation without a valid reason right? The heroine sounds my kind of girl too. I think I can tolerate her.

  12. I was a goner when I saw the cover to. I just love that guy. I just finished this yesterday. I really liked it. Wonderful review!

  13. This cover is so hot!! thanks for the awesome giveaway!!!

  14. Um...so I paused at the top of the page and just stared. Then I started reading your review and burst out laughing! Yes, I love this cover. This one sounds good. I like the idea of tolerable angst. There's been a lot of books lately with above levels of angst. Great review pal!

  15. Yes, the cover is.. nice. bahaha

I am taking a small break from all contemporary romance but this sound is def on the list to read soon. I love the whole MMA thing.

    Great review!

    Great review

  16. You convinced me! I have added this to my TBR list and can't wait to read it. :)

  17. I've just started this for a book group on goodreads that I'm part of. I'm so excited you enjoyed this, Andrea, because I know I will then, too! I like the fact that there's a low level angst. Wonderful review! :)

  18. Love the cover, love the excerpts! Can't wait to read this!!

  19. Yeah, that cover is what drew my eye! ;) I'm so glad this one met your expectations, Andrea. It's on my TBR. :)

  20. Oh yeah this cover is HOT! Ria really enjoyed this book as well. Sometimes I enjoy books with high angst, but sometimes I need a break from it. This sounds like a a great story, and I think it's awesome that you got to add another author to your consistently writes good books list.
