Meet Liv Michaels
It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere. Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember. Even though I’d much rather forget.
Liv Michaels is almost there. She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years. Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.
Meet Vince Stone
Women love a fighter, especially a good one. Lucky for me, I’m damn good. But there’s one woman that isn’t interested. Not again, anyway.
Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control. Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down. He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway. With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.
When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there. But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?
First Impression... Another nice cover for this series. I really liked Worth the Fight, and was excited to see that Vinny was getting his own book.
The Story...Vinny Stonetti, the teen we met in Worth the Fight, is all grown up, a fighter, and goes by the name Vince Stone. When Liv, a girl from his past walks into his present, Vince wants to show her that he's not the same self-destructive kid who broke her heart. Prove he's worth taking a chance on.
The Characters... Vince was a tough, troubled kid in Worth the Fight, so I was assuming the same would be true here. I was both right and wrong. While he is still tough and has major badass attitude, he's not out of control. Recently, with the help of Nico (the hero of Worth the Fight), Vince has made a lot of good changes in his life. No drugs, no out of control behavior, though he still sleeps with groupies like crazy. But hey, that's nothing new, right? So my point is, it's nice to have a hero who's already come through the bad stuff, and in a good place in his life. He didn't need Liv to fix him. Yay!
As for Liv, she really had herself together as well. She's preparing for her career, with only one assignment left that is standing between her and her dream job as a journalist. Her assignment is the infamous fighter, you guessed it, Vince Stone. Now we have Liv fighting for a job and fighting her attraction to Vince. But it seems there's a big secret to Vince's past, one that could destroy him and give her what she's dreamed of. This sets Liv on a difficult path, one that I'm not sure she could truly avoid and do the exact right thing about. She's so concerned for Vince, and I felt for her dilemma. So basically what I'm saying is, I found Liv to be a very likable character and felt she always did the best she could to protect the man she cares for, and herself.
Bonus: it was so cool to see Nico and Elle again!
The Writing... This is the fourth of Keeland's books I've read and once again, I do like her style. While the trouble fighter and the sweet heroine story isn't new by any stretch, I feel she managed to make it her own. I really liked the angle with Vince's past coinciding with her job, and think it gave the story a good level of suspense. Even though you know it's coming, the big conflict still had a lot impact. And the resolution, with Vince and Liv rescuing each other, it was great.
The Heat... Worth the Chance is pretty naughty! It's possible that my memory is failing me, but I don't remember Worth the Fight being this spicy. Vince Stone has a really dirty mouth and a vivid imagination and Liv was all about that. FUN!
In the End... I enjoyed Worth the Chance, more than I initially realized. I picked this one up expecting to read a few pages and ended up reading the entirety with a few hours. Looks like the series will have a third book, and based on who it's about, you can go ahead and sign me up.

Favorite Quotes:
He is who he is, and makes no apology if it's not what you expect. In a strange way, I was always a little envious of him. The ability to live your own life, truly for yourself, is such an easy thing to say, but such a difficult thing to do.
"I'm not sure I can do slow around you, Liv." His voice is back to gentle and sweet. "But I'll promise you I'll try. If that's what it takes, I will...I'll try." Vinny pulls back his head to look directly into my eyes. "Trust me about one thing, Liv...whatever is going on between us, it's going to happen. You can make it as difficult as you want, but we, Liv, are going to happen. Neither one of us can stop it."
Somehow, down deep, I just know he's right.

About
the author
Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!

Oooh so does it mean Vince is a dirty talker? Interesting! And I like a guy who has a great imagination;)
ReplyDeleteI really like that this is a story where the guy doesn't need to be fixed anymore, that just does not happen in book a lot. Liking the sound of this series. Great review!
ReplyDelete*ha* I know how you love your dirty talkers, Andrea! :) This sounds great and I'm glad it was a good addition to the series!
ReplyDelete"Worth the Chance is pretty naughty!" ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear its turned up the spice and so fun to see the characters mature and change
ReplyDeletePast flames back in the picture are sort of my go-to novels. Love them! "So my point is, it's nice to have a hero who's already come through the bad stuff, and in a good place in his life. He didn't need Liv to fix him." THANK GOODNESS!! I'm glad that the author's style suits you. It's naugthy? Haha. If you say so, it must be! I'm glad you enjoyed as a whole:)
ReplyDeleteI remember you reading the first book and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed this as well. I like that the guy didn't need help from the girl, but actually managed to grow with the help of a friend. That's pretty rare in NA. And a dirty talker? I'm in!
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Andrea!
P.S I got On the Rocks! I can't wait to read it. :)
Yay for naughty fighter books! another series to eventually look forward to thanks to your reviews. I think I would love Vince
ReplyDeleteKudos to the bad boy being grown up but still bad-ass. Wonderful review Andrea and glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this one, too, Andrea. I think a little more than the first one because this couple had a history. Great review! :)
ReplyDeleteI liked this one too and p.s. JACKSON!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this one to. I can't wait to read the next. Great review.
ReplyDeleteI like a man with a dirty mouth, as long as he knows how to use it. True? Looking forward to getting to this series at some point.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Review Andrea! I really need to read this series. I like the idea that neither characters need to be "fixed." This books sounds suspenseful, and Vinny sounds pretty sexy! I'll be looking forward to you review on the next book in this series :)
