Making the First Move was a thoughtful story about a woman who's searching for the perfect life, and realizes that maybe perfect isn't all its cracked up to be.

I liked Making the First Move, but actually don't have a lot to say about it. It was nicely written, the story was good. It just didn't make a strong impression. I will say that the first half was a bit slow. I get that the characters and their lives needed to be established, but it felt a bit tedious. For me, there were too many details about Melanie's job and her family. I wanted more Melanie and Rains.

The second half was definitely more enjoyable for me. I liked Melanie's struggle to make a long-distance relationship with Raine work. Her struggle to balance her idea of independence and her ideal life and love seemed realistic and thoughtful.  The synopsis hints at Raine having a dark secret. I assumed the secret would be obvious and typical, but it happily came out of nowhere, and seeing Melanie come to terms with it was great. And the story did wrap up well.

Not to be trivial, but my favorite aspect of Making the First Move was the steam! The author did a really fabulous job with the sexual chemistry between Melanie and Raine. Although I could have used a little more, those scenes were pretty hot, but weren't too explicit.

Overall, I liked Making the First Move, I just didn't love it. I do think many readers will enjoy it a lot.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Monica Murphy's. So when she announced she would be writing the Billionaire Bachelor's Club for Avon, which also happens to be a favorite publisher of mine, I was more than a little excited. Let me break Crave down for you: Sexy, Fun, Romantic, Damn Sexy. Yes, I know I said sexy twice. Crave earned it.

Here's where I make an admission: I was a teeny bit worried about Crave. Like I said, I love Murphy's books, but there are a ton of "Billionaire" books out there, and I wondered how this one would stand out from the rest. No worries here, because just as she put a unique and beautiful spin on her New Adult series, Drew + Fable, Murphy created a billionaire story that felt fresh to me.

I think what made Crave so enjoyable for me was that Archer and Ivy were so likeable. Yes, Archer is a billionaire, but he's not a rude, bossy man who is defined by it. Yes, he's be known as a womanizer, but he's not mean, and you don't really see that part of him in Crave.

What you do see is a man who has always been above love and romance, but has been hopelessly smitten with his best friend's younger sister for years. When you meet Ivy, you can see why she stands out from the rest. I adored Ivy Emerson. Since Ivy has known Archer for so long and grew up in the same affluence, she  wasn't a intimidated by Archer or his money. I loved that though Ivy finds Archer to be beyond attractive, she isn't willing just to give in to him. She is stubborn and snarky, but also a really passionate woman who knows what she wants. She doesn't shrink away or bow down to Archer, she matches him toe-to-toe. These two are  quite the perfect match.

When I was getting ready to start reading Crave, I miiiiight have warned my guy that I was going to be reading a Monica Murphy book, and I miiiiight have given him the side eye. By might, I mean that I out-and-out warned him that I would be getting steamed up. And by side eye, I mean that I winked a few times and probably made an obscene gesture. (It should be noted that I'm basically as mature as a 15yo) Let's just say that Ms. Monica Murphy knows her way around the sexy scenes and there were several times I needed an ice bath.

Crave was a complete WIN for me. The story was sweet, fun, and sexy. I enjoyed Archer and Ivy and rooted for their happy ending (in more ways than one). Once again, Monica Murphy has delivered a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend. So go read it, I'll just be sitting here waiting on book two, Torn.

10 Things Archer wants you to know about Ivy



Um, a certain woman named Monica Murphy told me I had to tell you all the ten things I want you all to know about Ivy.


Here’s the deal: there’s a hell of a lot I don’t want you to know about Ivy because she’s mine. Mine mine mine and I don’t care how greedy I sound, what goes on between me and Ivy is private. My big mouth has gotten me into trouble before and the last thing I want to do is piss off Ivy because a mad Ivy is a scary Ivy…


But I got Ivy’s permission to share these particular facts so let’s go. In no particular order, here are ten things about Ivy:


1. She’s talented—and I’m not talking sexually, though she’s talented in that area too (winces, I’m really asking for it already, aren’t I?). I mean that she’s talented in her profession, which is interior design. What she came up with for the opening of my new hotel was nothing short of amazing.


2. She’s feisty as hell. We’ve known each other for what feels like forever, since I was a teenager and she was an awkward preteen. We argued all the time. I said the worst things to her and she gave as good as she got. Being the sick twisted soul that I am, as we got older and that mouth of hers got feistier, it sort of turned me on. (Fine it really turned me on)


3. She’s loyal to a fault. We might’ve fought during those early years (okay, up until we finally got together), but she’s always watched out for me. Defended me. Consoled me when I was sad. She has a soft heart and I love that.


4. She makes me want to lose control. Gladly.

5. She makes me forget other women even exist. All I can see is her when I’m with her.



6. Being with Ivy brings a bonus—my best friend, Gage. So when we get married (because come on, I’m so gone over that woman, I’m going to make her mine on a permanent basis), Gage now becomes my brother. Awesome.


7. So Ivy brings her family with her and I love that because I’m not that particularly close with my parents. It feels good to be a part of a loving family.


8. She’s taught me how to love. I’ve never been in love before until her. It’s both scary and exciting.


9. She snores. She’s going to kill me for admitting this one but screw it. She snores and I have to give her a little nudge so she stops and then she starts back up again. It’s not that loud and it’s kind of cute but sometimes, it’s kind of annoying.


10. She’s not perfect and she can admit it. I love that most about her. She has her faults, I have my faults and together, our faults tend to cancel each other out. We’re a perfect couple. Even if she does snore.

Still, a little summer loving with the tall, blond and sexy former cop is far too tempting to pass up.

When his plans to enter the Secret Service went south thanks to a bum knee, Coop retreated to the family beach house to mull his future. Romance is the last thing on his mind, until he fishes a curvy brunette out of the sea. Now, spending time in Darcy's arms seems like the ideal distraction, even if it is just for a week.

But with Darcy's departure date fast approaching and their careers on the line, can they realize in time that their beach fling might become the real thing?

 

Love at High Tide is a cute, fast-paced read that is perfect for an afternoon at the beach. I liked Darcy and Coop. (Seriously, what is it about that name that makes it so hot to me?) Their attraction begins when Coop rescues Darcy when she panics in the ocean, and takes off with lots of flirting and longing glances. I appreciated how the two do not play games, or play coy, and act like two adults who know what they want.

Unfortunately, it seems that fate wants to be a cockblocker, and between Coop's meddling family calling him every five minutes (IGNORE your phone, dude. I do it ALL the time.), and Darcy's slightly annoying friend, the action between two gets off to a slow start. That's okay, though, because I don't mind if a couple takes time to get to know each other. What I didn't count on was the side story, involving the BFF Trina and a fat, hairy bad guy. Don't get me wrong, this bit was actually funny, with the two ladies playing spy, but it seemed to take over the plot. I wanted more sexy times with Coop and less spying in the hairy bad guy.

When Love at High Tide focused on Coop and Darcy, I really enjoyed it. They had a playful banter to keep the mood light, but both knew how to turn up the heat. Once things start going their way, the story was steamy. And again, it is a relief to have two characters who in know what they want and aren't afraid to say it. The angst was super low, and that made it such an easy, relaxing story.

Love at High Tide was a fun read, and it actually made me smile a lot. I do wish the story had revolved more around the couple, but I did like how the story wrapped up. Not a bad way to spend a few hours.

I have been waiting on Surrender to Sultry since the moment I finished book two, A Shot of Sultry. In that book, Colt Bea, law man and ladies man extraordinaire, let his guard down long enough to expose the heart that was broken when the girl he loved ran away. In Surrender to Sultry, Colt finally comes face-to-face with Leah after ten years, but winning her heart back will be the challenge of his life. And will he even want to when he learns the secret behind Leah's disappearance?

Surrender to Sultry was an emotional story that dealt with the pain of a lost love, the efforts to reconnect, guilt over years worth of lies, and the struggle to forgive, Both Colt and Leah have regrets that need to be dealt with. Colt feels unworthy of Leah, and places her goodness on a high pedestal. Leah, knowing she isn't as perfect as Colt still believes, has so much pain and guilt weighing her down. I absolutely love stories of reconnected love, especially one that digs this deep. Surrender to Sultry truly stands out. Beckett did a great job in making me feel the connection between Colt and Leah. It was easy to be on their side.

Surrender to Sultry is also a fun story. The story is told from both Colt and Leah's perspective, with Leah's tone being understandably more on the serious side, and Colt's being often laugh out loud funny. His internal dialogue was full of charm and brutal male honesty. The townspeople of Sultry Springs, Texas, were a force. Having grown up in a small southern town myself, I both laughed at and empathized with Colt and Leah dealing with their nosy but well-meaning fellow citizens.

The Sultry Springs series perfectly represents what I love about adult contemporary romance. The stories are so nicely-paced, the characters are endearing and engaging, the romance is hot, and I believe in the love story I've been given. I love that we get to see a lot of  Luke and June, and Trey and Bobbi, the couples from the first two books. I honestly love how Macy Beckett tied up the last book in the Sultry Springs series, and for that I am appreciative. I'm really, really sad to see the series end.

I reviewed Can't Help Falling in Love in January. Here's what I had to say...

Okay, that's it. I am officially declaring Gabe Sullivan as the Sexiest Sullivan of Them All. Wow. I dug Chase, hardcore, and really liked Marcus, but Gabe is hands down my new favorite Sullivan sibling. But...but... there are still two brothers to go, and the all promise to bring the heat, so we'll see.

As you might be able to deduce from my enthusiastic intro, I love Can't Help Falling in Love. Gabe and Megan were a realistic, and romantically portrayed relationship. Gabe is an average guy, as average as anyone in his family can be, at least, a firefighter who thrives on helping those in danger. When he rescues Megan and her daughter from a deadly fire, the sparks fly instantly. But Gabe has made it a rule to not get involved with rescuees, and Megan, whose husband died in a plane crash, has taken a stance against falling in love with another risk taker. With the help of her precocious daughter and a Sullivan sister, Gabe and Megan are pushed together and soon find that the heart always trump the fear.

The Sullivan Series is quickly becoming a favorite go-to series when I need a fast shot of swoony romance. The stories keep getting better and I find myself opening and devouring each book quicker than the last. Can't Help Falling in Love was a perfect way to spend my afternoon.

I was looking for a hot romance with fun and adventure, Wilde Nights in Paradise was exactly that.

The story begins with Jude Wilde's family security business being hired to protect Libby Pruitt. The tricky thing is, eight years prior Jude and Libby were engaged. He broke her heart. Libby is still understandably upset with Jude, who has never stopped loving her. When they head to safety in the Florida Keys, the temperature is not the only thing heating up. Jude and Libby have unfinished business, and a chemistry that won't quit.

Jude and Libby were both written to pitch perfection. Jude is a bad boy with a good heart. He had a tragic childhood that led him to believing he doesn't deserve good things, particularly Libby. It's clear from the beginning that his wrongdoing in their relationship isn't what it seems, and I was anxious to learn exactly what happened and why. Libby was Jude's opposite in many ways, but they definitely complemented one another. The breakup led Libby to become more withdrawn, and Jude sees it as his mission to bring to fun loving girl he not back out to play. Their banter was fun and realistic of two such characters.

Their chemistry was even hotter. I loved that Jude and Libby had such hot chemistry and I love even more that the author made me believe it right away. The flirting was fun, and the steam between them was even more so. The author painted a very, very nice picture of the intensity between Jude and Libby between the sheets (on the pool table, etc.). I found the scenes to be nice and hot, but not so much that would drive those who shy from the explicit away. They didn't take over Jude and Libby's story, they enhanced it.

Wilde Nights in Paradise was a fast read that I truly enjoyed. Jude's brothers, who also run the business, all played parts in the story. I would love it if each of these hot, intense Wilde brothers got their own story. <--- Not so subtle hint.

Wilde Nights in Paradise is another win for Entangled Brazen.

Remembering Joy was such a lovely surprise. So striking, mysterious, and heartbreaking, that I hardly know what to say. This is a story that is so intricate, so cleverly mapped out. I can hardly believe this is Jenni Moen's debut novel.

Because so much of the beauty of Remembering Joy is the surprising plot and the way it slowly and steadily unfolds, I don't even want to touch that. To be honest, if someone spoiled Remembering Joy for me, I would cut that person. Then break their Kindle.

I had only made it as far as twenty-five percent into the book when I decided I had to shout about it on social media. Several of my friends responded to my enthusiasm by saying they would add Remembering Joy to their to-read list. One friend, I'll call her....Karen (Hi, Karen!), asked the question I was waiting for: "Sounds good, but is this the typical 'New Adult'. " Even though I don't categorize Remembering Joy as New Adult, that's a fair question.

There is nothing at all typical about Remembering Joy. Yes, there is a heroine who's been shattered by a tragic event from her past, but Alexis is beyond being typecast. There is also a broody man with dark secrets, but Adam isn't a jerk, conceited, or a womanizer. His love for his car and his always awesome graphic t-shirts always made me smile. Seeing Adam and Alexis slowly come together is both irresistible, and like awaiting a tragedy. Their story is emotionally profound and beautiful. They have a very sensual, and almost dangerous chemistry, but Adam and Alexis won't find the answers to their problem between the sheets.  Their stories are united by tragedy and pain. In each other, they might find the way out.

Good grief. I am thisclose to completely losing it and spilling the story details. I want to gush about the suspense and emotions that make up Remembering Joy. I want to go on and on about how beautifully and truthfully Moen was able to characterize these two lost souls. I will say that Remembering Joy consumed my day, and that I was so blown away that I followed my husband around all day recounting the story. Which, by the way, caused him to say, "Sounds like a good story. Thanks for ruining it for me." (Sorry, babe!) I really need someone to talk about it with!

Remembering Joy was an absolute pleasure for me. And I know it is a story I won't soon forget. Please, please read it.
