Welcome to Boomerang.com, the dating site for the millennial gen with its no-fuss, no-commitments matchups, and where work is steamier than any random hook-up.

Mia Galliano is an aspiring filmmaker. Ethan Vance has just played his last game as a collegiate soccer star. They’re sharp, hungry for success, and they share a secret.

Last night, Ethan and Mia met at a bar, and, well . . . one thing led to another, which led to them waking up the next morning—together. Things turned awkward in a hurry when they found themselves sharing a post hookup taxi . . . to the same place: Boomerang headquarters.

What began as a powerful connection between them is treated to a cold shower courtesy of two major complications. First, Boomerang has a strict policy against co-worker dating. And second, they’re now competitors for only one job at the end of summer.

As their internships come to an end, will they manage to keep their eyes on the future and their hands off each other, or will the pull of attraction put them right back where they started?

In the spirit of Kristin Hannah and Susan Wiggs, comes this debut novel-the first in an unforgettable new series by Mary McNear

It's been ten years since Allie Beckett crossed the threshold of her family cabin at Butternut Lake, Minnesota. Now, newly widowed after the death of her husband in Afghanistan, she's returned with her five-year-old son.

There, she reconnects with the friends she had in childhood-best girlfriend Jax, now married with three kids and one on the way, and Caroline, owner of the local coffee shop. What Allie doesn't count on is a newcomer to Butternut Lake, Walker Ford.

Up at Butternut Lake follows these four unforgettable characters across a single summer as they struggle with love, loss, and what it means to take risks, confront fears, and embrace life, in all of its excitement and unpredictability.

Allie Beckett could never have imagined, when she ran away from her old life, that she was running into a whole new life, up at the lake….

My Review

Trying to review Up at Butternut Lake is overwhelming to me. It's a big, gorgeous story full of vibrant, engaging characters, all of whom won me over with their kindness and their earnestness. Within the first chapter, I knew this would be a five-star read for me, and I immediately put book two on my to-read list. This allowed me to simply settle in and enjoy the ride. And that I did.

I'm not exactly sure how to categorize Up at Butternut Lake, possibly Women's Fic/Romance? In my eyes, this is a story of healing, finding the courage to love again. It's a journey. This installment centers around Allie Beckett, a single mom who lost her husband two years prior in Afghanistan. Seeking privacy, to be away from the sympathy, the prying eyes and questions, she moves with her son to her family's cabin on Butternut Lake in northern Minnesota. Once there, Allie isn't sure she's made the right decision, but decides to see it through. She quickly reconnects with former acquaintances Caroline and Jax. Allie also makes a connection she'd rather not, with new neighbor Walker Ford.

Walker and Allie's relationship is strained from the beginning. Neither wants a neighbor, or to be friends. But they share an immediate, strong connection that can only be described as unavoidable. Allie wants to protect her son, put him first, but it's clear she has her own reasons to avoid Walker, namely her heart. There's a guilt to moving on after the loss of a spouse that appears to be indescribable. It's not something I've experienced, but have witnessed. Allie must come to terms with her loss, and whether she's willing to risk her heart again. Walker is a troubled man in his own right. With a failed marriage and a loss he's never truly confronted, Walker isn't exactly a sure bet for Allie. But he is a good man. Despite his prickliness and blunt nature, I found Walker to be a great leading man.

Friends Caroline and Jax are both interesting characters in their own rights, with fantastic stories to tell. We do get a nice secondary story with both; Jax's was particularly wonderful. Caroline will be getting a story in book two, Butternut Summer. I would love to see a more in-depth take on Jax's story, as well. Her storyline had me tearing up and cringing at the same time. Nothing traumatic, just very emotionally driven and suspenseful. We also have an interesting side character in Frankie, the ex-con who cooks in Caroline's diner.

I still feel as if I've not done Up at Butternut Creek its due. Once I began the story, I flew through the pages and didn't even take notes mentally. I was consumed by these characters and their stories. I wanted to canoe across Butternut Lake, eat a slice of pie at Pearl's, watch the storm from Walker's window. And sometimes, I felt as if I truly did.

I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series, Butternut Summer.

Favorite Quotes

You've met your match, Walker, he thought, turning onto the road and making a conscious effort to slow down. You've finally found someone who's more obsessed with her independence, and her privacy, than you are. You two should be perfect neighbors. But if that was the case, he wondered, why was he suddenly in such a lousy mood.

He was so hungry for her, he wanted her so much, that it took all his self-control to hold back now, to not do what he wanted to do her. He wanted to run his fingers through her hair. He wanted to pull her, hard, against him, and feel every inch of her body digging into his. He wanted to kiss her neck, the hollow at the base of her neck, and her almost-bare shoulders. But he didn't do any of those things.
This kiss, though, like most kisses, wouldn't be contained.

If you play with fire…

Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Unfortunately for Sam, her first private client makes her want to break every single one of them.

Harrison Yates is scorching hot, but he’s got a past that involves being left at the altar not too long ago. Sam is determined to make him forget about his ex, but when she makes her move, it flings her life into a spiral of chaos she never saw coming.

Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.
 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18053117-a-little-too-hot?from_search=true

Why I Loved A Little Too Hot

- Samantha West... I wasn't very fond of Sam in A Little Too Far. It's not that she did anything wrong, at all. She was simply in the way. In A Little Too Hot, we quickly learn that Sam's life has gone down the crapper in the year since her heart was broken by her best friend and the boy she loved. She's directionless, apathetic. She's made bad choices and is suffering the consequences. It's not pretty and certainly not easy to say, but I could relate to Sam in that way. I'm sure many of us can. The great thing about this is, Sam has the opportunity to come to some tough realizations about herself and to experience good changes. That opportunity makes for a worthwhile story.

- Harrison Yates... I'm a little tied up when it comes to Harrison. His entire story is a big surprise. I will say he is HOT (UNFF!), he is mysterious (VERY), and he is COMPLICATED. When I say complicated, I don't mean he's a damaged bad boy who does bad things but we like him anyway bc he's tortured. NO. He is complicated in a way that truly shocked me, made me angry, hurt, and ultimately paid off big time.

- Suspense... one of my very favorite aspects about A Little Too Far was the fact that I did not know which guy would win Lexi's heart until the very end. It was a bit of a torment, but truly held the perfect amount of angst. In A Little Too Hot, we have a similar type of situation, for REASONS. Reasons that I so want to discuss but that would ruin the suspense of the story, therefore ruining the suspense for the reader, in my opinion. It's not the choice between two men, but the question of will Sam and Harrison ever get to be together?

- Chemistry... From the moment Sam and Harrison lay eyes on one another, it is GAME ON. Honestly, the first time she sees him, it was a moment that made me half gasp/half sob and it kills me not to discuss why. Once again, secrets. The attraction between them is fiery, very erotic, and intense. Every moment they connected was a moment that I wanted to shout at them to "Just do it already!" But in a good move by Desrochers, things are not so easy. The "relationship" was still very physical, but also became a friendship. A Little Too Hot had an element of "Will They or Won't They" that had me anxious and crazy and hanging on to every word. I will say again that while it is a very sexually charged relationship, it is not all about sex. And again, huge payoff.

-Full Circle... From the beginning, Sam loved Trent. When her heart was broken when she learned that he loved Lexi, Sam couldn't deal with the sense of betrayal she felt. Trent and Lexi, her very best friend, were no longer a part of her life. As she changes and falls for Harrison, Sam begins to see that things turned out as they should. It's a hard but good realization, and when the story from A Little Too Far comes to a full circle with a beautiful and happy conclusion, it brought smiles and tears.

When I learned that A Little Too Hot was going to be about Sam, I wasn't especially enthused. Like I said, she was in the way in book one, and I didn't care about her. Desrochers proved me wrong. Not only did Sam have a story to tell, but it was a great story. She and Harrison were pure perfection, complicated, sexy, and a had a delicious and rewarding story. A Little Too Hot was brilliant, my favorite in the series. I hope this isn't the last we've seen of it, but if it is, A Little Too Hot went out on top.

Favorite Quotes:

Desire twists tight in my core at the knowledge that this man, who is by far the hottest man I've ever known, wants me. Looking at the need on his face and coiled in his body, I know for sure he wouldn't go eight months without taking me to bed. That look makes me feel sexy and beautiful. It makes me pulse with need and ache in my most private places. It tells me that he wouldn't leave me waiting and wanting for even eight minutes.

He shakes his head slowly. "It wasn't that. We just never...it wasn't like this," he says with a wave of his hand between us. "I've never been on fire like this for any other woman."
My heart skips. "You're on fire for me?"
He hangs his head, but his smoldering gaze stays locked on mine. "Burning alive."

Sam's Top 10 List:
(where she’d like to get Harrison alone)

10) On the sofa at Benny’s

9) On the sofa at Jonathan’s

8) In the back seat of his Escalade

7) In the swimming pool

6) In the shower

5) On the pool table

4) On the kitchen table

3) On the kitchen counter

2) On the beach at the Point

1) Under the stars at his cabin in the mountains

REVIEW: FOREPLAY by SOPHIE JORDAN

I've been having a hard time with my reviews lately, even for the books I love. So you will notice (or not) that I'm trying out a new review format. I'm hoping this format will help me organize my thoughts in a way that satisfies me, and helps other readers decide if the book being reviewed is for them. This is a work in progress...

Foreplay (The Ivy Chronicles, #1)Series: The Ivy Chronicles #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: William Morrow
Publication Date: 11/5/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 320
Source: Publisher
Rating: 4 stars

Before she goes after the life she’s always wanted, she’s about to find the one she needs. Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.

Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17254035-foreplay?from_search=true

First Impression ....Foreplay seems like the "typical" New Adult story. But my friends swear it's great, so I'm hoping they're right.

The Story... Pepper has waited her whole life - saved herself - for one boy, Hunter. The brother of her long-time best friend, Hunter only sees Pepper as family. In an effort to learn the art of attraction, of getting and keeping his attention, Pepper seeks out Reece, a man with a reputation for satisfaction. As Pepper and Reece get to know one another, it's clear they have something special. But Pepper refuses to let go of her dream of Hunter. As the time to make her move comes, Pepper must decide if she wants that old dream, or find a new one with Reece.

The Characters ... Pepper and Reece, though different in many ways, both have a painful past, and have built necessary walls. Pepper, though she has friends, is lonely. She definitely has abandonment and trust issues. Though it's clear from the get-go that she's totally barking up the wrong tree with Hunter, it's really easy to see why she's wanted him for so long. It's almost enough to see why she is so, so blind, even with the handsome, sweet, charismatic, and caring Reece right in front of her face. While I liked Pepper, Reece is what made this story for me. It was his personality, the way he let Pepper be who she wanted to be, make her own decisions, and waited for her to wake up and see what she could have with him.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a handsome guy, but the hot book guys are a dime-a-dozen. Give me a good guy any day of the week.

Foreplay also had a nice cast of secondary characters. Peppers suitemates, Emerson and Georgia were fun, though Em could be a bit much at times. You know, that quirky, crazy BFF? I'm having thoughts, though, that maybe Emerson has a story to tell, too. Hunter, the object of Pepper's affections, was in the story very little, but he also seemed like an interesting -very good- guy. And Logan. That boy was something else!

The Writing .... Sophie Jordan is widely praised for her writing, and now I know why. Though Foreplay was over three hundred pages, it was a very fast read. It got off to an interesting start, never lagged in the middle, and the ending was fairly strong, and not rushed. I will say that though I really did like her writing, the physical descriptors, in regards to Reece, were too much. I was well aware that the dude was way hot for the get-go. It was not necessary to repeatedly remind me how carved/cut/sculpted he was and that his muscles rippled and bunched every time he moved. That issue, combined with the overall predictability, are the only aspects that took my overall enjoyment down a notch.

The Heat ... was just the right amount, considering the story. Pepper's education was thorough, but Foreplay was never taken over by the physical.

Could I Put Foreplay Down? .... The story got off to a good start, never lagged in the middle, but I wasn't consumed. The last one-fourth of the book, though, really picked up in emotional intensity and I could not put it down. I didn't cry, or become overwhelmed, but I had to know how what was going to happen between Pepper and Reece. Who would she pick?

In the End ...
Foreplay, though not completely new and fresh, was a very, very enjoyable story. Good writing, good story, great characters.

Favorite Quotes:

"I can spot you a mile away with this hair. It's like candlelight. A thousand different colors."
"A poet bartender," I murmured, settling my hand against his upper chest.
"Sweetheart, every bartender is a poet."
"I guess you get to see quite a bit of the world from behind the bar."
"I see enough. I saw you."

"I like your laugh, too," I whispered, feeling pulled in, cozy in the cocoon of his bed.
  "Yeah?"
I flattened my palm over his chest, enjoying the sensation of the firm flesh, even warm as it was. He sighed, like my cool hand offered him some relief.
"I laugh more since you came around," he said quietly, his lips barely forming the words.

Sophie JordanSophie Jordan took her adolescent daydreaming one step further and penned her first historical romance in the back of her high school Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History.

A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not nearly as interesting as literature - teaching English seemed the natural recourse. Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for better part of the last few years…and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome. But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to Confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt…and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy on the eyes deacon…only eight months away from becoming a priest. As Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

A Little Too Far has been one of my most highly anticipated books of the year. I put a lot of pressure on this book, perhaps a little too much.... But rest assured, because A Little Too Far delivered in a huge way. It was FAB-U-LOUS.

I think stories are best left to be read, not summarized in a review. And trust me, even a world-class summarization could do justice to the characters (OMG Trent!), or just how beautifully Desrochers depicted this story of love and guilt and duty and fate. Lexie's story, that of a young woman drawn to two seemingly out-of-reach men, Trent and Alessandro, was about so much more than physical attraction and the allure of forbidden love. It was a tender and thoughtful look at love and the choices it sometimes leads you to. Of finally finding your forever love and deciding if that leap of faith is worth the risk. (The answer is always YES.)

A Little Too Far is the first of Desrochers books I've had the joy of reading, though I do own her Personal Demons series. I have to say, I'm a new fan. Through her words, I experienced the beautiful city of Rome, and the historical works of art that fill it. I also experience the wonders of Corsica, and the natural beauty that makes it a treasure. I also experienced the high of realizing joy and the fulfillment that can only be found in the arms of love. I experienced angst, not the kind of angst that makes you ill with fury at the characters, but the sort of angst that has you flying through the pages, leading me to breeze through A Little Too Far in record time.

A Little Too Far is more than a story of sex and temptation. It is a beautiful love story, and without a doubt, one of my favorite books of 2013. And I can also say the second book in the series, A Little Too Much, is now my newest most highly anticipated book of 2013.

Favorite Quotes:
I feel myself implode, and all I can think about is how much I miss him. I miss curling into his arms and telling him about my day. I miss knowing he'll always be mine--that no one will ever know me like he does. I miss his lips and his hands. I miss his heart and soul. I miss every part of him.
I feel so empty. Can a person die of emptiness?   ~eARC, 71%

Twenty-year-old Lexie Banks just slept with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound. But even though she’s always been attracted to Trent, he’s her best friend and her confidant. {REVIEW} TAKING CHANCES by MOLLY McADAMS

Taking ChancesSeries: Stand alone
Genre: Contemporary New Adult
Publisher: William Morrow
Publication Date: 10/16/12
Format: eARC
Pages: 432
Source: Received from publisher via Edelweiss

Eighteen year old Harper has grown up under her career Marine of a father's thumb. Ready to live life her own way and experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit; she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family and emotions. Some she wasn't expecting yet, and others she never knew she was missing.

She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with her boyfriend Brandon, and her roommate's brother Chase. Covered in tattoos, known for fighting in the Underground and ridiculously muscled...they're exactly what she was always warned to stay away from, but just what she needs. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both adore and would do anything for Harper, including stepping back if it means she's happy.

Her first year away is turning out to be near perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

Taking Chances is a story that will reel you in and break your heart. But it also gives you quite the dramatic and unconventional love story.

Harper is a girl who has never experienced a traditional family lifestyle. She grew up on an Army base with her widower father, a distant and overprotective man, and his soldiers, who were like older brothers to her. Harper decides she needs to get away, and goes to college across the country. She is immediately befriended by her roomie Bree, and is introduced to life as a co-ed. This means parties at the house Bree's brother Chase lives in with his buddies. Harper feels an immediate, intense attraction to Chase, but with his womanizing ways, he quickly scares her pff. His roommate Brandon, however, is exactly right for Harper. Brandon is kind, patient, and gorgeous. He and Harper quickly begin a relationship, yet she still harbors feelings for Chase. The triangle soon comes to a head, and the passion that ensues changes the lives of all three forever. What results is heartbreak, shock, pain, love that goes beyond expectation, friendship and family.

To make you understand what makes Taking Chances intense and shocking would require me to spoil the story. And this aspect is what has also made a lot of readers (according to reviews I've read) angry. And I get their feelings, to some extent, but then again, I don't. I feel uncomfortable when readers get angry when characters in books make mistakes, as if that doesn't happen in real life. Harper makes some really, really big mistakes. But she is an eighteen-year old girl with almost no life experience. She's never had anyone teach her how to handle her intense feelings and emotions. She's torn between two very appealing guys, and just doesn't know how to handle it. After a tragedy, Harper decides to make a life, in a unconventional, yet loving way. This seems to have angered readers, as well. To this I say, you don't know. Something very similar to what happens to Harper, happened in my own family. It's horrible. It's painful. And sadly, it's life. No person, especially someone in Harper's situation, should have to endure it. I know this seems vague and odd to people who haven't read Taking Chances. But to those who have, whether you agree with me or not, absolutely know what I'm saying here.

I will say there were a couple of issues I had with the book. For starters, I felt like many of the characters handle some very difficult situations a little too well. It was nice for Harper, and I loved the support she received, but in real life, I feel it would be a bit more dramatic. Also, the plot could used a lot of tightening. There was a secondary plot with an old friend of Harper's that added nothing significant to the plot other than unnecessary drama and length. And really, there was a lot in the last twenty percent that could have been left out, and still given a sweet, thorough ending.

Having said that, I truly enjoyed Taking Chances. I stayed up until 3am reading it, and had to force myself to close my eyes. It was addictive, and so freaking emotional. I was prepared by my cousin for the shock, and I was so glad. I still cried like a baby. I'm still a bit distraught. Taking Chances is a story that I don't think I can possibly forget.

Favorite Quote:

"If you think acting like you don't exist isn't the hardest thing I've ever done, you're wrong. I hate not talking to you. I hate not bickering like we're an old married couple and I hate not spending every day right next to you. But this is how it has to be. Brandon hates me, and Princess, trust me when I say he has every reason to. So if after everything I've done to you, you'll still even consider being my friend, then it has to be Sundays only."  ~  eARC, 29%

Molly McAdamsGrew up in California but now live in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with my husband and furry daughter. Some of my hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach…which roughly translates to being a homebody with the hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When I'm not at work, I can be found hiding out in my bedroom surrounded by my laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. I have a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and love curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm...or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way I can pretend they aren't really happening.

My Teaser ~

"Please don't. Don't give him everything."
He placed a hand on either side of my body and brought his face back to mine. "He doesn't deserve you Harper."
My breath was coming in faster, and though I knew I should lean away, I couldn't make myself actually do it. "And who does, Chase...you?" My voice was barely a whisper. ~14%

**This is shaping up to be one steamy love triangle.**
