PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW: THE DAYLIGHTERS BLOG TOUR by RACHEL CAINE

Coming 11/29

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow: The Daylighters Blog Tour
Rachel Caine says goodbye to Morganville

Master storyteller Rachel Caine has her hands full with her bestselling Morganville Vampires novels coming to an end, and a brand new book (a retelling of Romeo and Juliet titled Prince of Shadows) on the way. But with speculation about Daylighters (Nov. 5, 2013), the series finale, at an all time high, she just couldn’t resist dropping some hints. She’ll be stopping by to answer your questions in the comments below, but she can neither confirm nor deny what’s true and what’s not!
Ask away!

Daylighters (The Morganville Vampires, #15)Series: Morganville Vampires #15
Publisher: NAL
Publication Date: 11/5/13

While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one… Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.

It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.

Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end…

Rumor #5: Morganville is wiped off the map.

From Daylighters:

Claire turned to Miranda, and said, “Do you think you’re strong enough now to go out again?”
Miranda nodded eagerly – so eagerly she was almost bouncing in place. “What do you want me to do?”

“I need you to do a little spy work for us,” Claire said. “Since you’re so good at being invisible. The Daylight Foundation seems to be behind all of this urban renewal we’ve got, so they’d be the ones to make a plan for demolition, too, wouldn’t they?”

Prince of ShadowsPublisher: NAL
Publication Date: 2/4/14

A standalone built around the character of Benvolio, from Romeo and Juliet. The novel will be told from the point of view of Benvolio, who is Romeo’s cousin and, in Shakespeare’s play, attempts to get the lovelorn Montague interested in other girls after it’s discovered that Juliet is a member of the clan his family despises: the Capulets. Caine’s novel, her agent said, explores a scenario in which Romeo and Juliet are not the only couple to fall into dire romantic straits and is “a tale of intrigue, betrayal, hatred, and tragedy,” about “lovers lost, and lovers found.” (From Publisher's Weekly)

  1. I'm so sad that Morganville will be over, that is my favorite paranormal series. But then again, I can't wait to read her new novel.

    1. Hi, Glass - I'm so pleased you like Morganville, and yeah, I'll be a little sad too to leave Morganville -- but so many exciting places to go! :)

      Cheers and good morning!

    1. That's because I write SO MUCH. Sorry. But -- at least you'll be able to avoid the cliffhangers? Bright silver lining!

  3. Rachel is such a lovely author, I had the chance to meet her when she came to the UK, I'm so behind on this series, so won't be posting a question, but look forward to reading what other people have to ask!

  4. I have not read any of the Morganville books because the series is so long, but I will definitely be checking out Prince of Shadows because it sounds like my kind of book.
    Thanks for sharing, Andrea!

  5. I have the first two Morganville books, but I havent started it yet, mostly because the length of this series intimidates me. I do hope to read them someday.

  7. I've only read the first book in the Morganville series but it was really good.

You had me at "standalone" for Prince of Shadows lol

    1. I know, right? It's really odd to do a standalone in YA anymore, except in contemporary. :)

  8. the rumours are really interesting; i like that this is the way to release the snippets for the last book, it's really cool!

Have you ever done anything that you regretted doing later when writing the series (even if now you think you're glad you did it or that you think it's helped the story in other ways)?

    1. Yeah, I thought it was a pretty cool idea, too -- it gives us a chance to do longer sections of teasers, which I've always wanted to do!

Oh, goodness, yes ... you make decisions not really knowing how long a series will be, and sometimes you kill characters (SAM) that you wish you hadn't, later on. At the time, I honestly thought the series was ending. Then, later, I really felt the lack of having him as a character, since he really would have been amazing to have had for Michael as he transitioned and grew -- and a rival for Amelie's affections!

      Great question, thanks!

  9. I've been into the whole vampire thing since I was five so last christmas my parents saw the first two Morganville books in the book store and bought them for me. I started reading them in March and its my favorite vampire series I have read so far, I finished 'Fall of Night' at the beginning of September and I am noth excited and sad about Daylighters coming out on the fifth. I like the short stories though too and I hope to see more of those.

    1. Hi, Kayla -- wow, FIVE?! I thought I was an early fan when I was ten. :) You have me beat by five years. Good for you!

I'm so happy you like the series ... yeah, I'm sad to see it end too, but I do think it's really the time to let these poor characters have a rest. Morganville is TOUGH!

Thanks for the kind words, and I promise to do some more short stories! :)

  10. My girl Glass (from above) will probably have to kick my but as I still haven't started this series. I will have to as it sounds like a great read. Now after all books get out it's a perfect opportunity. That new book sounds really good and I'll be reading a lot of Shakespeare next semester so I'll have to read this one too. Thanks for sharing this Andrea :)

    1. I know it's a big commitment to start a series this long! It's part of the reason that I think it's time to let the series go ... it's so tough to get new readers in when facing that kind of commitment of time and money. On the one hand, it's a huge and lovely compliment from my readers that they're willing to follow me this far, but on the other, I have to balance whether or not I'm excluding new readers. So. Time to do this, I think.

I'll be very eager to hear what you think about Prince of Shadows! I'm super excited about it.

    2. Well, technically, you may be right. I think they started using that model for my US books on #8, which was ... 2010? I think. POINT CONCEDED.

  12. OH, I didn't realize the series was ending! I have enjoyed Morganville since the beginning, but I have to say I'm a few books behind so while I'm sorry to say goodbye to the characters, I'm glad their arcs are wrapping up so I can get caught up. :)

  13. I love this series so much I got 2 of my friends hooked on them I wouldn't stop talking about it. I live in Portugal so I had had to have them shipped here (using Bookdepository) so I've always been a few days behind, but today I got the news they're shipping Daylighters so I'll probably get it on the 5th! SO HAPPY!
But I get it why it has to end now, and I'm glad it's not just going to drag on and on just because it's a sure sell. And now I'll have time to start reading the Weather Warden (which I've been meaning to do, but as I try to spread my love (and, consequently, money) between all my favourite authors, I haven't had "time").
I'm hoping the demolition is just the Founder's Square or something!
Like I said AMAZING series, and I really hope for a satisfying end to all the characters.
Thank you so much, Rachel Caine. You're amazing!

  14. From one Rachel to another: THANK YOU! I've never been to Portugal but I would love to see it sometime ... I'm sure it's amazing. Thanks for the good words about the series, and I'm so happy you have enjoyed it.

I can't confirm or deny any pending demolitions in Morganville. :)

    1. That's why I'm happy to have a stand-alone like Prince of Shadows this time -- I know the 15 books is an intimidating length for a series! Thank you!

  18. Morganvielle is one long ass series, is the story still as good as the previous ones? I don't think I'll ever get to catch up with that one not unless there's an apocalypse and I'm stuck in the library next to a shelf with this series...

    1. I agree it's a long ass series. I can't really give you an opinion about its quality, because I'm probably biased or something, but I can say that I think the it's stayed solid and I tried not to just write the same book over and over. DID I SUCCEED? I have no idea. But that was my goal.

  21. OMG, I remember this series! I read up until Kiss of Death I think, then they started changing the book cover sizes to trade paperback and I got all pissy about my covers not matching, then I kind of forgot about it. I did really like it though!

  22. This is a series that I haven't wanted to read for a while now. I hope to start it soon. I've heard such great things.
