Welcome to The Bookish Babe's stop on the Darkness Rises Blog Tour!
My stop includes a guest post from author Dianne Duvall and giveaway.
But first, check out Darkness Rises.
Series: Immortal Guardians #4
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Zebra
Publication Date: 10/1/13
Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her "special abilities" aren't much, but the plan is simple -- she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it's bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He's a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.
Étienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years -- long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can't stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she's exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger, too. He'll have to accept Krysta's help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher . . .
Dianne Duvall Answers Readers' Questions
Thank you for joining me! And thank you, Andrea, for letting me visit
The Bookish Babe and for helping me celebrate the release of DARKNESS
RISES. DARKNESS RISES is the fourth book
in my Immortal Guardians series and, I’m happy to announce, just hit the USA
Today Bestseller List! If you like strong heroines, powerful
preternatural heroes, action scenes that will keep you flipping pages well past
your bedtime, and romance that is alternately sweet and steamy and laced with
humor, then DARKNESS RISES is for you. J I’m
so thrilled by the response it has received from reviewers and readers. And, speaking of readers . . .
The readers who frequent my Facebook page were
kind enough to offer up some questions they would like to me answer in an
interview. So, without further ado, here
is my Author/Reader Q&A:
Lisa, Carolyn, and
Gwen: Who are the hot men on the
covers? Do you get to pick which sexy
man goes on the cover of which book?
Dianne: I actually have
no idea who the men on the covers are.
Janice Rossi, the art director at Kensington, designs them. I’ve been very pleased. J
Michelle: Do you use any music as inspiration?
Dianne: I wouldn’t say I use it for inspiration, but
music does occasionally make an appearance in my series. Readers will find quite a wide variety of it
in DARKNESS RISES, much of it unexpected.
J
Vanessa: Do you plan on curing the vampires during the
series?
Dianne: I don’t know yet. For those who are unfamiliar with my Immortal
Guardians series, vampires aren’t the heroes.
Vampires are the bad guys. (Or
rather, they’re ONE group of bad guys.
Others have arisen of late.)
Vampires are humans who have been infected with a very rare symbiotic
virus that conquers and replaces the immune system, then lends its hosts
heightened senses along with incredible speed, strength, and regenerative
capabilities. It also causes
photosensitivity, a need for blood, and progressive brain damage that rapidly
drives humans infected with the virus insane.
Immortal Guardians, on the other hand, are men
and women born with extremely advance DNA who are infected with the same
virus. Their advanced DNA lends them
abilities humans and vampires don’t possess — such as telekinesis, shape
shifting, or telepathy in the case of Étienne, the hero of DARKNESS RISES — and
protects them from the more corrosive aspects of the virus so they suffer no
brain damage. As a result, immortals
spend their nights hunting and destroying the insane vampires who prey upon
humans.
The network of humans who aid the Immortal
Guardians has been searching for a cure for the virus, but there’s a catch: If they succeed in killing the virus, the vampire
or immortal turned mortal will be left with no viable immune system. As of yet, they’ve found no way around this.
Jackie, Liz,
Kristine, Misty, and Patricia: Will
Seth and David be given their own stories or find their true loves?
Dianne: Yes, I do intend to help the eldest immortals
find their HEAs. Both work so hard to
create a familial atmosphere among the Immortal Guardians and give so much of
themselves to others. They’ve lived so
long, however, and have seen so much that it’s taking me longer to find the
perfect women for them. :-)
Vanessa: Who is the next immortal to get his/her HEA?
Dianne: Lisette, Étienne and Richart’s sister. For two hundred years Lisette has been
burdened with the guilt of having accidentally turned her brothers — of having
denied them the happiness they could have found as mortals in the form of love,
marriage, and children. I knew she would
never let herself find happiness until her brothers did and, I admit, I was
eager to see the twins fall in love. So
Richart found his HEA with single mother Jenna in “In Still Darkness”
(PREDATORY anthology). Now Étienne has
found his HEA with mortal vampire hunter Krysta in DARKNESS RISES. And Lisette can, at last, release the guilt
and try to find happiness for herself.
Perhaps she’ll find it with a certain mysterious, dark and powerful
winged being who lingers outside the Immortal Guardians’ fold. ;-)
Sarah and Andreia: How many books will there be in the series?
Dianne: I haven’t decided. I know where I want the series arc (plot) to
take me. I just don’t know how many
books it will take me to get there or how many immortals will find their HEAs
along the way.
Ashley: Do you have any one favorite Immortal Guardian
over all the others or one character out of all your books that you just fell
in love with—whether they are a main or side character?
Dianne: My favorite characters tend to change with
each book. Étienne and Krysta are my
current favorites. I simply love the
teasing banter they share. But, if I had
to choose just one, it would be Seth, the eldest and most powerful Immortal
Guardian. He’s seen so much, suffered
such tragedies, and carries so many responsibilities on his broad
shoulders. I’m looking forward to finding
the woman who can ease some of the weight of that and brighten his nights.
Josette: What’s your favorite line/scene that you’ve
written?
Dianne: I have a long list of favorite lines from the
series and couldn’t choose just one. I
usually jot them down as I edit and share them in the Favorite Quote Friday
posts on my blog. I don’t think I could
pick just one favorite scene either. My
favorite scene in DARKNESS RISES, though, would have to be the big climactic
action scene. I think this is the first
one that made me laugh several times despite the violence and destruction taking
place in it. I hope it will be a
favorite of readers, too. J

travis maddox from beautiful disaster and I love Bastien because everyone loves the bad boy. thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteHi, Elena! I'm not familiar with Travis, but am thrilled you like Bastien. He's such a fun character to write. :-)
DeleteI loved Lisette.:)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character.... Hmm, Sam from The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta.
Thanks for giveaway.
Glass @ Way Too Hot Books
Yay! I'm so glad you liked Lisette. I'm really enjoying writing her book (Night Unbound). I've never heard of Marchetta's book. I'll have to look it up. :-)
DeleteLula from the Stephani Plum series is one of my top favorites. As well as Lucian from the Argeneau Vampire series. :)
ReplyDeleteI've read the first few books in the Argeneau series and enjoyed them, but am not familiar with the Stephani Plum series. I'll have to check it out. :-)
DeleteOh I hate the favorite question. I hate it so much, especially with 'all time' attached to it. Hmm gah Id have to say the Stitch Witch from Tamora Pierce's Circle series. She was always so much fun to read and I adored her use of magic.
ReplyDeleteLOL. I know what you mean. You notice I had a hard time just narrowing it down to one favorite character in my series. :-) The other question that always gets me is, "If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with you, what would they be?" I can never narrow it down to three!
Delete"If you like strong heroines, powerful preternatural heroes, action scenes that will keep you flipping pages well past your bedtime, and romance that is alternately sweet and steamy and laced with humor, then DARKNESS RISES is for you." And I'm sold! I have heard of this series before but now I'm really adding it to my to-read shelves. Great post :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanja! I hope you'll have fun with my Immortal Guardians!
DeleteMy favorite character.....i always like strong heroine, so my favorite was Eve Dallas from In Death series and Elena Deveraux from Guild Hunter Series. For Hero, Sebastian,Viscount St. Vincent from Wallflowers Series still number one, because he was playboy. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteHi, Filia! Can you believe I haven't read any of these series? I'll have to check them out when I can find some reading time. :-)
DeleteI have to say that my favorite is Matthew Clairmont from the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness. He is so dark and unforgiving but at the same time, so loving and caring. Him and Diana didn't start out very well, but in the end they are all they had. I love the story and Deborah did such a fantastic job of writing it that it was very hard to put down.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'm intrigued. I'll have to check it out. Thanks, Melissa!
DeleteOoh, this is a series I've been wanting to read. Thanks for the interview - it's great getting to know things about Ms. Duvall and the series. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for my favorite fictional character...hmm...I think I'd have to choose Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. She's so outspoken in her opinions and I admire and aspire to be like her :)
A true classic. Great choice! :-) I hope you'll like my Immortal Guardians!
DeleteUm, my all time favorite book character - AHHHHH. I have a few :) CG, Kellen Kyle, Reed Wellington from 'The Premonition Series' and Colton Donavan.
ReplyDeleteI have not read your series yet, but would LOVE the chance too. I like all genre's especially ones with sexy men on the cover :D
Thanks for the giveaway!!!
My TBR pile is growing. I'm not familiar with these and will have to look them up. :-) I hope you'll have fun with my Immortal Guardians!
DeleteThis is such a difficult question. I suppose I'll have to say Oy the Billybumbler or Roland the Gunslinger, both from Stephen King's Gunslinger series. I've named one and half dogs after Oy (the other is a combination of Oy and the god Oyo. Since my first dog died, I didn't want to jinx the second, even though it was almost 10 years later). Clearly, the character resonated with me. I loved the post.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice! I love the Dark Tower series! :-)
DeleteYikes, that's a very broad question. Across all genres, eeks I guess I would have to say that it is Katherine from Taming of the Shrew. For her time period, she was a trailblazer, fictionally speaking of course.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sebella! Thanks for joining us! Katherine is a great choice!
DeleteI hadn't read much about the series until this & the synopsis and now I really want to check it out. Etienne may just be my new fav character! Thanks for the interview & giveaway!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Bennett is my all time favorite fictional character.
A classic and popular choice! Thanks, Judy! I hope you'll like my Immortal Guardians! I had such fun writing Étienne and Krysta's story. :-)
DeleteAh! Of all time?? That's too tough. I can't ever choose favorites. From the classics? Mr. Bennett. From YA? Brom from Eragon. From the Immortal Guardians, it's a fairly minor character -- I love Debbie, Jenna's friend from In Still Darkness. She is hilarious! The line, "The circles under your eyes have a lovely purplish hue." Cracks me up every time!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love it when minor characters catch readers' attention! Thanks!
DeleteReally hard to answer who is my all time favourite. One of my favourite books and a re reader is The Count of Monte Christo, Edmond Dantes and in total contrast the second most re read book of mine is Zsadist from the BDB.
ReplyDeleteZsadist's was the first BDB book I read and hooked me. I haven't had time to go back and read the earlier books, but am curious to see how the series began. :-)
DeleteFun interview, ladies. :) I think it'd be awesome to be able to choose your own model for your book, although I know that doesn't happen. Just think of your publisher sending you catalogs of hot sexy men and your being able to spend the afternoon picking out your favorites and calling it WORK!
ReplyDeleteWendy @ The Midnight Garden
LOL! Hmm. Perhaps that's why I update my Immortal Guardians Dream Cast each time a new book is released. So many pictures to comb through . . . ;-)
DeleteSeeing this one around quite a bit. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us, Autumn! I hope you'll like Étienne and Krysta's story if you decide to give it a look. :-)
DeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us, Valerie!
DeleteI have to do a double take on the vampire cure. Vamps as bad guys, I like this already.
ReplyDeleteAs a long-time lover of horror movies that feature creepy vampires, I couldn't resist returning vampires to their dark roots. :-)
DeleteTotally love this series and your interview answered so many of my questions!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And thank you again for the fantastic review!
DeleteOoh, tough question. I'd have to go with Mr. Darcy. I loved the book and he was my first book boyfriend. I have to say that I love Roland though. He is my favorite Immortal Guardian with Lisette a close second. Love the series and can't wait for her book.
ReplyDeleteHi, Steph! I am really enjoying writing Lisette's book and hope you'll like it. :-)
DeleteI love your series and hope it continues for a long time :) My favorite all time is hands down Lucian Argeneau, in the Argeneau/Rouge Hunter Series.
ReplyDeleteNice choice! I've read the first few book in that series and enjoyed them. Hopefully I'll find some reading time soon so I can catch up with the series. :-)
DeleteI love Marcus Grayden! The Immortal Guardians are one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteYay! Marcus has always been a favorite of mine because his character has been with me longer than the others. I actually wrote Bethany and Robert's story (not yet published) before Darkness Dawns and Marcus appeared in it as both a teenaged squire in the past and an Immortal Guardian in the present. :-)
DeleteI haven't read any of the books in this series, but my interest is really piqued! Great interview Andrea :) I think it's cool that you had your facebook readers give their input on what questions to ask the author. Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteLindy@ A Bookish Escape
Thanks for joining us, Lindy! I hope you'll like my Immortal Guardians if you give them a try!
DeleteI've been seeing a lot about this series with the release of this book, it sounds great! And I love that she took readers questions and answered them. It gave me a better idea of the whole series rather then just this book.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Candace! I really liked the questions readers asked and wish I could have included them all. I hope you'll enjoy my Immortal Guardians if you give them a read!
DeleteNot easy... In the PNR front - Valerius, from the Dark Hunter Series. On another front, Roarke, from In Death Series. Don't make me choose one of them, I simply can't.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a fabulous series, I love it so much! Each book is more precious than the previous ones. I'm so curious to read about Zach! That one is killing me.
My favorites tend to change along the way. It very much depends on what I am reading. All time favorite - not sure I have one.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an interesting series. I enjoyed the interview.
ReplyDeleteJamie Fraser from "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. So funny, brave and loyal. Oh, and totally hot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

My favorite fictional character is Levi from Found by Alyssa Rose Ivy :)
