Today I have author Bethany Lopez here at the blog, to talk about her upcoming Contemporary Fairy Tale, Nissa. I will also be giving away some swag at the end of the post.
Genre: Contemporary Fanatsy
Publisher: Bethany Lopez
Publication Date: 4/23/13
At 900 years old, Nissa is finally ready to follow her mother's path and become the best Fairy Godmother she can. She’s not thrilled when her first assignment turns out to be a teenage human girl with self-esteem issues, but she knows she has to start somewhere. Her assignment has dealt with bullies since her freshman year and they haven’t let up. If Nissa can’t help her regain her self-confidence her future is bleak.
To complicate matters Nissa experiences all the signs that she's met the being fated for her. This impossibility distracts her from her purpose. After all, fairies and humans aren't meant for each other. How can her heart believe otherwise? Can Nissa successfully complete her first assignment as a Fairy Godmother? Will the fates allow Nissa and Levi to be together? And even if they do, will Levi believe Nissa once she reveals the truth?
Fun Facts about Nissa: a contemporary fairy tale
The idea for Nissa came to me while I was sitting in the doctors office in Nov 2011
I started writing it, but since I had written strictly contemporary up until then, I wasn't sure if I could pull off a fantasy. I put it aside and wrote the second and third books in the Stories about Melissa series.
I took the chapters I'd written with me to the Southern California Writers Conference in Feb 2012 and had the first five pages read aloud during a rogue workshop. I was terrified, but the other writers thought I had a good idea.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to name the male love interest, so I held a poll on twitter. I asked if the readers liked Levi, Colin, or Seth. Levi was my favorite, and was theirs as well. I used Colin in Make it Last, but I haven't used Seth yet.
I picked Levi as one of the choices, because I pictured Adam Levine as Nissa's love interest, and it's a play on his name.

I loved writing Vicky. I think she is funny and spunky and I really hope she gets her HEA!
I signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo in July and wrote the first draft of Nissa that month.
Finnegan became one of my favorite characters. Something about an inatley cocky character makes me happy!
I really fell in love with Pinterest because of Nissa. I loved pinning to her board. The pin for Levi's tattoo is the most pinned photo on all of my boards. You can see it here: http://pinterest.com/bethanylopez2/nissa/
I really love the magical bits in Nissa. I hope it is funny and sweet, as well as magical. I'm really happy with the final product.
Nissa is a YA that falls in between the complete innocence of my Melissa books, and the more mature themes of the Friends & Lovers Trilogy.
**I think Nissa sounds like such a cool story! Be sure to add it to your to-read list. **
