High school senior Liv Evans has one rule: No attachments. She’s lost enough in her life and has vowed to do whatever it takes to make sure she never again feels the emptiness of losing someone she loves. Boys are a fun distraction, but a serious relationship is something she’d rather live without. Her determination for a future free of pain and heartbreak is put to the test when she meets–and quickly forms an unexpected bond–with Logan Tanner.

Logan has always been a free spirit, but ever since a life-changing event took place, which left him doubting the integrity of those who are closest to him, he’s taken that term to a whole new dangerous level. Learning the hard way that life is too short for worries or work–and that women can’t be trusted–Logan has exchanged steady work for street racing. When Liv walks into his world, everything he thought he knew about life and women is challenged.

In The Fine Line, Liv and Logan will discover if it’s possible for true love to have a future, or if history is destined to repeat itself.

I started A Fine Line with the preconceived notion that it was going to be just like every other new adult novel that has been hitting the shelves lately with each person having their own "life changing events" that has altered or damaged their notions of love and life in a way that they are dysfunctional. So hear me when I say it is, but it isn't. It is about a girl who grew up thinking that everyone she loves will eventually leave. It is about a boy who has lost in his life and does street race, but he doesn't street race to be destructive. He does it because he loves the thrill and of course the money. And I will delve into this better later, but the writing made it all the better!

Olivia "Liv" Evans is a tough nut to crack, y'all. She made me want to strangle her at least a good ten times, and that was just in the first half of the book! The number probably doubled as things went forward. She killed me with her thought processes, but I had to remember...she turns 18 in this book. Am I seemingly attracted to books with young characters who do insane things because they're transitioning to adulthood? Yes, it seems I am! Which is funny, because the whole time I think, wow..when I was this girls age I was planning my wedding. Or when I think why did her mother let her get away with that? Uh, well the answer is...because when we're 18 we're a pretty secretive bunch until shit seriously hits the fan. And when it does...gah. Thank God for this Mama to have her girls back. LOVED that part.

Now Logan Tanner...I really really liked this dude. He was our typical hero in looks and confidence. But for some reason this never gets old for me. Hopefully it never does. I like the fantasy I guess! His reasons for being the way he is are just, but I loved the way he was with his group of friends, and then with Liv. They wanted to be friends, and the journey to them becoming best friends was the best! I love that. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Then that little thing we like to call love sneaks up on them and puts them on their ass and everything falls apart, and I wanted to throw my kindle. Gah. Communication, the relationship killer, struck again...

That being said this story is 5 stars for me because the characters are real and fun, and there are some fun times...some serious times...some damned confusing as hell as to why they are tormenting each other times. The way that certain characters step up in ways you wouldn't expect and others let you down in ways you also wouldn't expect. I enjoyed it very much, and then realized as I sat down to write this that it is Alicia'sDebut Novel. Debut. Wow. Girl can write a book. Pace is spot on, and I had a very awesome relaxing afternoon reading this one. <3

  5. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I did too. I know what you mean by "confusing times..." they really did torture each other, but thankfully it all worked out.

    Great review, Drea!

  6. Wow, a 5 star debut is awesome! I love stories where the characters are realistic, and 18 is a great age to read about, when characters are transitioning in to adulthood. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Wonderful review Courtney and as I'm not the biggest NA reader, I honestly think this will make the "cut". It sounds "normal" but exciting enough to grab my attention. Plus I love the sound of that hero, my BF when I was their age was into drag racing too and even if that didn't end happily, the throwback element is still welcome.
