But love—and duty—are powerful motivators, and alliances are forged in the most unlikely places. With the key to salvation locked inside the mind of an unconscious child, Gavin must find another way to snuff out the Fyre Elementals before millions of humans die, or make good on his deal with the devil and lose the one he loves. About the author:

Word diddler and whale warrior, Kendall was born without an off-switch between her brain and mouth. She's been called the "Flux Capacitor of Twitter"  and "A little package of love all wrapped up in F-word paper," but she's really just a maniacal writer relaying eyewitness accounts of the rave inside her head. She writes urban fantasy with strong romantic elements and also dabbles in erotica and horror on occasion.

Kendall lives off a dirt road near Atlanta, Georgia, but don't hold that against her

Be sure to check out the Just Breathe Trilogy website for all things Just Breathe!
All profits from the sales of INHALE, EXHALE, and JUST BREATHE will be donated to whale education.

The Edge of NeverSeries: Stand alone
Genre: Contemporary New Adult
Publisher: J.A. Redmerski
Publication Date: 11/15/12

Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.

Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.

With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.

But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

Due to sexual content and language, this book is recommended for 17+ – Adult Contemporary Women’s – New Adult Fiction

My Teaser ~

I want one thing in life. It's not money or fame or a Photoshopped d!ck on a billboard in Times Square or a college education that may or may not benefit me later. I'm not sure what it is that I want, but I feel it deep in the pit of my stomach. It's there sitting dormant. I'll know it when I see16% it.  ~Andrew   (16%)

RELEASE BLOG TOUR ~ REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Welcome to The Bookish Babe's stop on the Release Blog Tour. This tour is being hosted by #MyPalVal at Stuck in Books. You can find the complete tour schedule here. My stop includes a review and the tour giveway.

Release (The Protector, #3)Series: The Protector #3
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Publisher: M.R. Merrick
Publication Date: 12/8/12
Format: eARC
Source: Received from author for review.

After uniting the shifters and calling in reinforcements, Chase has to face his toughest challenge yet: learning to control his emotions. But as tensions rise and his powers grow, controlling his emotions becomes the least of his problems.

Terrorized by a multi-shifter who is hell-bent on turning him, Chase questions just how far he’s willing to go to stop his father. Meanwhile, Tiki’s virtuous nature has placed him in the middle of Vincent’s past, leaving Chase to oppose a senate of vampires and defend a demon he hates.

Trying to balance his friends, his enemies, and his inner demons, Chase is left searching for answers about the Mark, his destiny, and where he can find the next soul piece. Stopping Riley is his top priority, but as more obstacles arise, he finds himself doubting all the decisions he’s made - especially regarding Rayna.

One thing is for certain: Chase has finally realized that he doesn’t know anything. The light doesn’t always quell the darkness, the monsters don’t always stay in the shadows, and the past doesn’t always stay in the past - sometimes, the demons inside are the hardest to fight.

Well, that was a pretty intense ride! I have to admit, my reading preferences have changed dramatically in the past few months, and I don't read a fraction of the fantasy books that I used to. I also tend to sometimes have problems with "middle" books in a series, because they often feel to be "filler" books while waiting for the finale. Having said this, I will say that I was a bit worried about starting Release. I really enjoyed Exiled and Shift, loved the fantastic world Merrick created. Would the magic still be there, for me?

It was. It did take me a while to get back into the groove, though. Chase, Rayna, Willy and the gang were all a bit lost, scrambling to find a way to fight back against Riley and the evil power he holds. Chase is understandably confused and angry. And while I found him to initially be abrasive, I got it. Every time the poor kid seems to gain a foothold, something happens that makes him question his ability and his judgment. But, Chase does experience a lot of character growth throughout Release, and for that I am proud. I'm curious, nervous, and anxious to learn where this self-reflection leads him going forward. His growing, frustrating relationship with Rayna is where I enjoy Chase the most. I guess that's because, though Chase is a powerful figure with a lot of responsibility on his shoulders...he's also a guy who is falling for a crazy-awesome girl. That in itself is a potential whirlwind of emotions and problems. Plus, it's fun to see "Territorial Rayna"!

What made me the happiest about Release was that several secondary characters were able to step forward, take a larger role in the story, and truly shine. Vincent, for one, plays a larger role. He's on the defense and needs help from those he's hurt in the past. I still don't fully trust him, am not sure that I ever will, but for some reason I sort of like the creep. My favorite character in the Protector series is Tiki. He's always been this fun, slightly odd guy (?) that I've giggled at, but didn't know a lot about. In Release, we get to learn about his tragic, brutal past, and more about his kind nature. I fell even more in awe of this wonderful character.

Release was crazy. I'm in awe of the world that Merrick has built. He did an excellent job of creating a vivid, descriptive visualization of the world the characters inhabit. The story was full of violence, revelations, intense emotional standoffs, and a tragically sad ending. Seriously, I did not see that coming and it makes me want to say "Merrick! What the hell, man?!" It was shocking, and most importantly, did the job of making the reading want more. I have to find out if *that* really happened.

If YA Urban Fantasy is your thing, or you just want to try it out, the Protector Series is a great place to start.

{MINI-REVIEW} MAKE IT LAST (FRIENDS & LOVERS #1) by BETHANY LOPEZ

Make it Last (Friends & Lovers, #1)Title: Make it Last (Friends & Lovers, #1)
Genre/Age Group: Contemporary New Adult
Publication Date: 11/12/12
Format: ebook
Source: Bought

In a small town, it's hard to recover from being dumped by your high school sweetheart. That's just what Briana has to do after Colin leaves her to follow his dreams. She focuses her energy into her friendships and the pursuit of her own goal of becoming a chef. Just when she finally feels like she's on the right path, he comes back to town.

Colin knew breaking up with Briana before leaving for college was the right thing to do. He was determined to leave small-town life behind forever, and that included his high school girlfriend. But when a sports injury puts him on the sidelines, he's forced to return home. Seeing Briana again brings back a lot of memories, and Colin wonders if he made the right decision. It doesn't take long for him to realize he wants her back, and this time, he wants to make it last.

A sweet story that will make you believe in "first love".

Colin and Briana were high school sweethearts. When Colin broke Briana's heart, he left her behind, with an empty place no other guy has been able to fill. After four years, she's moved on, but when Colin comes back to town and realizes what he's missed, the two will discover whether they have what it takes to make it last. (no pun intended, seriously)

I really enjoyed Make it Last. I love stories of two people who reconnect after heartbreak and years apart. I love when the two are forced to recognize who they've each grown into and have to re-evaluate their feelings. So in that aspect, Make it Last definitely appealed to me. The story is fairly short, which I have absolutely no problem with, I just felt it could have dug a little deeper into the emotions. Show me the heartache. Make me feel the emotions stirring. Leave me breathless, just like the characters. But still, I did really enjoy the story. Other than the showing vs telling, it was well-rounded and left me so happy with its ending.

Make it Last is absolutely brimming with secondary characters who were vying to steal the story! Pete, Kara, Roni, Rich, Kent (broke my heart!), Nicole...they were all characters that I want to know better, probably Rich and Kent the most. This feeling leaves me wanting more from the series and I will definitely be reading Kent's story, I Choose You.

Favorite Quote:

"Holy crap, Bree, he is freakin' HOT."
  "Shut up, Kara."
"No, seriously...tall, dark, and freakishly handsome! I mean, those dimples...I just want to lick him," Kara said dreamily.
"Jesus, Kara," Briana snapped, "Are you kidding me right now?"
Kara laughed wickedly. "Not about the fact that he's crazy hot, but yes, I'm kidding about wanting to lick him. You know I'd never poach."
