Good girl from a privileged family meets and falls for the bad boy. Classic story, right? Umm...yeah, except when the so-called "bad boy" has taken to fu-- er, starring in adult films. So when Alexa and Cade meet, while he's packing an extra special package and she's the nurse who helps treat him, it turns out that while they won't have the easiest of relationships, neither one is hard to love.

Alexa, as you may have picked up from the synopsis, is a good girl, a twenty-one year old who hasn't had her v-card punched yet. I'll be honest, I applaud young women who hold onto this, but sometimes they're not so fun to read about. I know, this makes me sound like an a$$, but it can be annoying. This is NOT the case with Alexa. Her virginity is not her identity, it is just one part of her multi-faceted personality. AND, Hard to Love is not the story of a man-whore trying to get into the innocent virgin's pants. Not at all. It IS the story of a girl who meets a guy, is immensely attracted to him, and he's doing what he has to do to get by.

So. Cade. He is one hot man. He had to grow up way too soon and has responsibilities very few young men could handle. He's trying to make a good life for himself and his little sister, whose health comes at a high price. When he meets Alexa, he doesn't want to fall for her. He doesn't have the time, the money for the kind of life he thinks she deserves. But how can a guy not fall in love with the girl who wants to help him, loves spending time with and cares for his little sister. Cade soon learns that no matter what his brain tells him, the heart is an entirely different animal. His heart wants Alexa.

Hard to Love was such a fun story to read. From the beginning, hilarious and epically awkward, I fell for the characters, their stories, and I honestly could not read this story fast enough! With her fun, steamy stories that make me laugh and swoon, Kendall Ryan has quickly become a favorite author of mine. Hard to Love was EASY to fall in love with.

My Thoughts ~   Hopeless is without a doubt one of the most powerful stories I've ever read. I was intrigued, swooned off my rocker, giggled at the wit between Holder and Sky, reduced to a quivering, huddled teary-eyed wreck. I stayed up until 3:30 am on Christmas morning to finish Hopeless, knowing my kids would be up by 6:00 am. I did not regret that decision. The way in which Colleen told this story... my mind is blown. I cannot recommend Hopeless highly enough. But, be sure to have tissues on hand. Read this.

My Thoughts ~  I liked this one, quite a bit, but not as much as I'd hoped to. Maybe it was the hype, maybe it was that I had just read a phenomenal book. The writing felt a bit awkward at times. Overall, though, it was a sweet story. Ella and Micha were two kids who'd lived hard lives. Their connection was strong and beautiful. The character development was good, and the ending was open-ended, but cool. I will definitely be reading The Forever of Ella and Micha.

My Thoughts ~  Another story of two broken people, who find strength in one another. Callie and Kayden broke my heart. Each are dealing as best they can with the horrible circumstance they've been dealt. The issues that Callie and Kayden had were handled very beautifully by Sorensen. I loved that she took her time with the characters, letting them get to truly know and understand one another. I really enjoyed The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden and the ending was BRUTAL! I will definitely be on board for The Redemption of Callie and Kayden.

My Thoughts ~  New. Favorite. You guys, I loved this book so much that I can hardly stand it! I was in dire need of some fun after reading some very "heavy" books. Wallbanger gave me all the fun I could handle, and then some. The characters, particularly Simon and Caroline, were flawless. Wallbanger read like a romantic comedy, would be a fantastic movie. There were some times I laughed so hard that I snarfed and had tears streaming down my face. The only downfall? It ended. When it comes to Wallbanger, believe the hype.

My Thoughts ~ The Sea of Tranquility is a beautiful, brutal, emotionally exhausting, soul-crushing masterpiece. Seriously, I have no clue what to say after reading TSoT. As soon as I finished, I told my BFF to read it, now. She asked what she could do to prepare. My answer: Alcohol. Beer. Defribrillator. And Tissues. I'm so exhausted that I can't even begin to comprehend writing a full review. I just...I just don't know what I can possibly say that many others haven't already said. And much more eloquently than I could ever hope. I just sort of want to die when I think about how completely perfect TSoT is. My brain is oatmeal. And I'm really happy to now be part of the super-special group on Facebook that's dedicated to this book. (Thanks, Megan!) I have a feeling that I'm going to need to do a lot of feelings-sorting there, lots to think about.

I get to meet Katja Millay at a book event in Florida in February. I want to hug her. Ask her how the hell she ever created such a phenomenal story and characters. If her soul ached while writing as much as mine did while reading. Cry a little bit. Then thank her. And give her another hug. When I have her sign my copy, I'm sure there will be tear stains.

It should be said: There's a special place in heaven (or wherever you believe) for someone who can write boys like Josh Bennett and Drew Leighton. Especially Josh Bennett.

Heidi Rice's 'TIS THE SEASON TO GO SHOPPING

It's Christmas Eve, and Kate is stuck at her job at an upscale department store with the boss' son. Not a bad prospect when the store has everything you could possibly need and the son is a world-traveling hottie. It's always been a dream of mine to get locked in a cool department store overnight (yes, I've watched many 80s movies with that scenario!). But not only was it super fun, it was also super steamy. Let's just so that alpha male Ryder knows how to thaw Kate out. And though their lives may seem worlds apart, these two will find a way to make it work.

Amy Andrews’s ‘TIS THE SEASON FOR KISSING

<happy sigh> This was my favorite story in the anthology! Tamara and Luke were funny, sexy, and sometimes funny while being sexy. Here's what you need to know about this story: Tamara has abstained from sex for a year. Luke has been deployed overseas for nine months. A snowed in cabin on New Year's Eve. You do the math. This was a slow burn build-up and I enjoyed every second. Loved it!

  His hand stilled as her intoxicating scent wafted toward him. Damn, but she smelled good. With the mint from the mouthwash mixing with the nutmeg and rum from earlier, she didn't smell like Christmas anymore. She definitely smelled like New Year's Eve. With a pinch of Halloween and a large dose of crazy. But after nine months and a strangely arousing non-striptease, his body had decided that Christmas was overrated.

 

 

Aimee Carson’s ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE TEMPTED

  Wes and Evie are opposites. Wes is the total package, perfect body, job, life. Things aren't going so well for Evie. Her career and love life are not where she'd hoped. Wes has always considered Evie off limits, she's his best friend's little sister. But when they're snowed in on New Year's, Wes and Evie can fight that feeling no longer. I loved that Evie was wild, a non-conformist who is loud and proud. I also liked Wes, that though he exudes perfection, when he's finally pushed to the limit, Evie causes him to unleash years of pent-up attraction. This was a sweet story of a long-awaited connection between two people who seem all wrong for one another, but turn out to be just right.

  Wes was just what she craved. A man she could trust, who was dependable. The kind of guy who watched over her when she was at her most vulnerable, but who burned with a passion so powerful it slayed all thoughts of treating her with kid gloves. I have a soft place in my heart for stories of friends who fall in love. I also have a soft spot for stories in which, after a bad split and many years apart, two people reconnect and rediscover love. Back to You gave me both. Instead of just telling the reading what happened in the past, author Priscilla Glenn did a lovely job of moving between the present and the past, and letting Michael and Lauren's story unfold.


Michael and Lauren both stole my heart. I am an easy sell for broken boys, which makes me seem kind of cruel! I guess it's that I can relate to loving someone a bit like Michael. The pain he experienced as a child and teen made me want to love and shield him.

"His face, like everything she knew about him, was purely contradictory. That cherubic mouth with those penetrating eyes: he was too lovely to be menacing, but too intense to be innocent."

Then, to see what kind of man Michael became made me love him even more. I also loved Lauren. Quiet, but strong, she is a girl who almost always does the right thing.

"She was one of the most genuine people he'd ever met, and he knew at that moment that if he did nothing else in his life, he wanted to be friends with Lauren Monroe."

Lauren could have easily been a bland character, but she wasn't in the least. Her huge heart, understanding nature, and determination made her completely endearing.


I'm so happy that I took the time and had the opportunity to read Back to You. It was a beautifully written, engaging story that made me feel so much. For lovers of Contemporary Romance, or those who simply love a sweet, emotional story full of  love and redemption, Back to You is a must-read.

  He looked so young in that moment.
  So vulnerable.

  And she realized right then, even if she never felt it again for the rest of her life, she knew what true, unadulterated love felt like.


  She closed her eyes, remembering the incapacitating pain. The double loss. Not only was her love unrequited, that in itself would have been painful enough to deal with, but in the same shot, she also lost her best friend in the world.
  And she never could figure out which one hurt more.
