MINI-REVIEWS: STIPULATION and VIOLATION by SAWYER BENNETT

Stipulation (Legal Affairs, #2)Series: Legal Affairs #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Big Dog Books
Publication Date: 1//24/14
Format: eARC

Rating: 4 stars

I crossed a line with my boss and there’s no taking it back.

Not that I’d want to.

You see… Matt Connover? Well, he’s something else. Strong, magnetic, sexy as hell… but yeah, he’s still my boss.

What am I doing? Why is he so irresistible to me? Maybe it’s because I finally saw a different side to him. I saw, for a brief moment, that Matt is vulnerable, possibly damaged. Is it wrong that it makes him even sexier in my opinion?

I’m in deep and I don’t see any way out.

I don’t want to find a way out.

I want to find a way for both of us to stay involved in these Legal Affairs.
~ McKayla “Mac” Dawson

I was extremely pleasedto find the second installment of Legal Affairs in my inbox. In the opening, Objection, Sawyer Bennett established a snarky and fun heroine, a sexy lover, and a messy but sexy workplace romance.

In Stipulation, we have Mac and Matt working together and trying to maintain distance. Of course, this is easier said than done, particularly when travel is involved. Matt insists on maintaining the sex only rule, and Mac agrees. But it can't be helped that when you like someone, can't keep your hands off each other, and respect them professionally, you'll eventually want more. And therein lies the conflict.

What I like so much about the Legal Affairs series is that it is so much fun. I always knew Bennett had a great sense of humor, but in this series, she lets it fly, and she shines.

Favorite Quote:

My hands immediately go to Matt's shirt, trying to swiftly undo the buttons, but making no headway whatsoever. Never one to be worried about finesse or decorum, I grip the material tightly in my hands and jerk as hard as I can, expecting buttons to spray all around us and his glorious chest to be exposed. In my mind, I even see it happening in slow motion, because yeah...that's how it would happen in those steamy romance novels I like to read.
Instead, the buttons hold firm and my hands fly outward, holding nothing but air. Matt pulls away from my mouth to look down at me, taking note of the failed attempt to strip him bare...and I'm sure the way my mouth is hanging open in disbelief.
His eyes crinkle in amusement, and then he starts laughing.
  Hard.

Violation (Legal Affairs, #3)Series: Legal Affairs #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Big Dog Books
Publication Date: 2/7/14

Rating: 5 stars

My life is in a tail-spin and I’m about ready to crash.

I’ve cut Matt Connover out of my life… well, at least out of my bedroom… but I still have to deal with him at work. I have Lorraine intent on raining hell and destruction down upon me, which at least provides a nice diversion from my miserable feelings over Matt.

About the only good thing that has happened to me lately?
Cal Carson asked me out… and I accepted.

Matt’s not going to like that. Not one little bit.
But that’s not my problem now, is it?

Sawyer Bennett. You are a sneaky, sneaky writer. You've made me adore Mac. You've given me no choice but to be confused and frustrated by Matt's tendency to run hot-and-cold, to the extent that I would gladly kick him in the junk when he distances himself from Matt. You've added another dude to the mix, a seemingly nice one who is interested in Mac and would likely be good for her. It's a tightrope I'm walking here, and you're doling it out in small pieces.

And then... the answers slowly begin to roll in. Why does Matt refuse relationships, even with a woman he's clearly crazy about? It seems, he has reasons. Very understandable ones at that. Matt's never been a challenge to adore, he's charming and it's obvious he really likes Mac, personally and professionally. And it would seem, in Violation, that he's beginning to warm to the idea. Things are great in the Legal Affairs world. And then.... THAT ENDING.

Sawyer Bennett, you really know how to keep a girl hanging on.

Favorite Quotes:

Asshole hadn't even bought me a Big Mac, and I'd made him howl with pleasure. Where's the gratitude?

There we go...the jaw is popping away, and I feel a peaceful calm enter my heart. It's easier than fucking Yoga to find my Zen place by antagonizing Matt.

Matt groans like I just told him I was sentencing him to death and slowly pulls out, rolling off me and onto his back. What I'm sure is just for dramatic flair, he rests the back of his arm across his forehead and sighs. "I can't believe I just got cock blocked by you...while I was inside you."

  4. I grabbed book 1 (esp since it's a freebie) because of your review. I still have to read it but from the sound of these two follow ups, it looks like the series is another winner. Plus I love lawyers, their sharp and often wicked minds fascinate me.

  10. Wonderful mini review Andrea! Mac sounds like a main character that I would love! Matt's refusal of a relationship would frustrate me, but I am curious about his reasons. This sounds like such a fun, humorous, and sexy serial! I can tell that you're loving it! I thunk the Big Mac quote is hilarious!
