IndelibleCategory/Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Publication Date: 7/9/13
Format: Kindle
Pages: 254

Rating: 3.5 stars

After a year of partying, Sam decides to buckle down and focus on college. Things are going great until a one-night stand leaves her pregnant and alone. Raising a child while going to school isn’t easy, but Sam is determined to be strong for her daughter. She doesn’t have time for guys or relationships, and takes great care to protect her child and her heart.

Judd doesn’t fit the mold of a college ballplayer. His long hair and tattoos may fit the life he’s created for himself, but baseball is the one thing he takes seriously. When he meets Sam, he’s immediately drawn to her curves and refusal to put up with his crap. When Judd learns the truth, can he handle the responsibility that comes with loving a single mother?

Sam yearns for the fire that Judd fuels in her, but her child’s needs have to come first. Can two people at different stages in their life find a way to make a life together?

There are many, many types of good men, in reality and fiction. Some of the very best men are those who fall in love with single moms, and their children. Knowing that Indelible featured this type of man was one of the reasons I wanted to read it. Another reason is the cover. Look at the woman. She looks like she could be anyone one of us. I love that Bethany Lopez took a step away from the typical, cover-wise.

Sam and Judd were such easy characters to root for. She's a good mom, good friend, and a hard working student. Judd was a talented baseball player who takes care of his dad, and barely flinched when he learned the girl he's falling for has a kid. A guy that puts love over the joys of being a hot college guy.

Indelible is a fairly straightforward story about a single mom and a baseball player, both college students, who meet, have an attraction, and explore where it goes. I will point out there's a little doozy of a twist near the end, and I did see it coming, but for the most part the story follows a very linear, low drama path. And you know what? That was fine because I had already reached my drama threshold for the day, and wanted no more.

Having said that, I think a lot of readers would want more angst or tension out of Indelible. I would've liked to have "experienced" more with myself. I feel like the establishment of Judd and Sam's relationship was a bit rushed. Actually, I don't know if "rushed" is the correct term, because there are a lot of valid, fast-moving relationships. I guess maybe I just needed to feel some more out of the characters.

I found Indelible to be such a sweet love story. The pages flew by, due to Lopez's easy going writing style. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Favorite Quote:

He walked over to Karrie and picked her up, murmuring something in her ear and stroking her back as he carried her back toward her room.
She stopped crying and signed loudly.
  Really?
I didn't know whether to kiss him or throw a shoe at him. Instead, I headed back into the kitchen and opened a bottle of wine.    ~ebook, 71%

  1. I think it's hard to get that balance. Where a book has a bit less drama and angst but still makes you really FEEL it. I don't think I've read a romance with a single mom, but I like the idea of it!

  2. I can't remember reading a book about that kind of man, but I agree with you about them. Anyhow it happens often that author puts too much drama and angst, it's about balance. Too bad it happened here but I'm glad you enjoyed it overall :) Great review :)

  5. "I guess maybe I just needed to feel some more out of the characters. "

That was the biggest problem I had with this book, Andrea. I tried reading it a couple of weeks ago and couldn't connect with the characters on any level because I couldn't feel anything for them. Their emotions weren't really palpable.

I thought their relationship developed a bit too fast as well and wanted it to be a bit slower. Plus, there was this one scene in the book in the beginning where the baby is crying non-stop and the MC just locked her in her room and left. I've never had a child before, but for some reason I thought that was really unsafe. I mean what if something happened to the baby while she was crying?

Anyways, I'm glad that you liked it despite not feeling much out of the characters, Andrea.
    Lovely review! :)

  6. This sounds good and I'm glad it's very low drama. Sometimes I just want to read a book that doesn't make my head spin. I will have to check this out sometime. Even with their relationship moving a bit fast, I think I would still enjoy it.

  10. I have a weakness for guys who loves single moms unconditionally because jam one too. Its hard to find one in real life so it's a great escape to find a GOOD guy in books. Keeps me hopeful... getting out of the soapbox now...

  13. I'm drawn to a story like this as well, Andrea...my brother fell for a single mom, and they've been married for 20 years. :) I'm glad that you enjoyed the story even if it was simple, and maybe didn't provide as much relationship development? as you would have liked. It does sound like a great way to spend an afternoon. :)

  14. I can't stand kids/babies in books, don't know why but it hardly ever works for me. I still want to finish her other NA series.

  15. Oooh a good guy, he takes on a single Mom..that appeals to me, I know a few ladies in that situation and these men are few and fair between. This sounds like a great afternoon read.

  18. Sounds like a nice read for the most part. I like the premise, as I know a lot of people with kids...some married, others not. I agree about the girl on the cover; she looks very "regular" and that's great!

  22. You know what, I agree with you Andrea...once in a while I love to read simple love stories where you don't have to think to hard while reading. And I love the sound of this one! Sam and Judd sound like enjoyable characters, and I am glad they are easy to root for! I can't wait to meet them and see how their relationship develops even if it is fast moving. I'm glad you enjoyed this Andrea! Lovely review! :D
