Review and Giveaway: Ready to Wed by Cindi Madsen

Whether you’re looking for a romance that makes you laugh, makes you ‘walk the plank’, keeps you guessing, or stars your favorite paranormal, look no further. Select books have the single-title stories you crave, and the longer length you need to really get ‘lost’ in a great book. Today I'm happy to be featuring Ready to Wed by Cindi Madsen!

Dakota Halifax loves to be in love. In fact, as one of Las Vegas’s premier wedding planners, she’s built a whole career around romance. Which is why her own wedding has to be nothing short of perfect. And then her fiancé jilts her. While she’s waiting in her wedding dress. On a cruise ship already out at sea.

Once back on dry land, Dakota tries to pour her heart into her business and weekly wedding advice column, Get Ready to Wed. But how can the heartbroken celebrate others’ true love? When she reconnects with her childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being in love.

But then her ex reappears, begging for another chance and suddenly Dakota questions if she’ll ever understand love. Can someone once-burned and twice-shy ever find her way down the aisle again?

My (Mini) Review

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Madsen's. Whether it's YA with a paranormal or gothic twist, a swoony, slightly wacky and heart-tugging romance, or a story that has a strong chick lit feel, if she writes it, the chances are excellent that I'm going to love it.

Ready to Wed was no exception. This was a story of Dakota Halifax, jilted bride and newly-turned skeptical wedding planner. Dakota had quite the emotionally-challenging journey in this story, with her beliefs on love and weddings challenged at every turn. Add in a swoony guy, Dakota's former best friend Brendan, and you have a recipe for the kind of love story that will make you smile and make you believe.

Dakota was a lot of fun. Like a lot of Madsen's heroines, she's a sweetheart, but also really snarky and witty. Jake was another of Madsen's good-guy heroes, which happen to be a favorite of mine. Kind, charming, sexy and not afraid to make Dakota his, Brendan had me from the beginning.

If you're looking for a strong, character-driven story that will make you smile throughout, once again, you can't go wrong with Madsen. Ready to Wed was great!

Favorite Quotes

"Men are like puppies...you will get attached, bring them home, and they will shit all over everything you love."

Brendan lowered his forehead to mine. "I've loved you one way or the other since the first day we met, Dakota Jane Halifax, and I'll keep doing it, no matter what happens. Even if we find out we're better as friends."

Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She's sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she's happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she's culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.

Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.

Jake put his arm over the back of the couch. His fingers grazed my shoulder, then he twisted them in the ends of my hair, sending a tingly sensation along my scalp “Nope. Just had some experience with stuff like this before.”
“You think you’ve got women all figured out, then, do you?” I asked.
Jake shook his head. “No way. Every time you think you do, they change the rules on you. Like they could love the way you were yesterday and hate it the next day.”
“Every now and then, we change our minds. It’s our prerogative. The big secret is”—I leaned in conspiratorially—“sometimes, even we don’t know why. There are times after we pick a fight where we’re as confused as you are. But there’s no way we’re admitting it.” I shrugged a shoulder. “That’s why we have boobs.”
Jake’s eyebrows shot up.
“See, after we’ve acted crazy, and the guy’s wondering what he’s doing with us, we use them to mesmerize him, so he forgets that we’re crazy.” I shot Jake my most seductive smile and leaned the assets in question against his arm. “And by the way, if you look at my cleavage right now, even though I’m the one talking about it, I’ll accuse you of not caring about what I say and of just treating me like an object.”
Jake swallowed hard, keeping eye contact with me, though I could tell he was fighting his impulse to look down. A mischievous glint flickered through his eyes. “And treating you like an object would be bad?”
“It depends on how big a deal you make about how smart, funny, talented, etcetera, etcetera I am first.”
Jake slid his hand behind my neck and swept his thumb along my jaw. “Have I told you how smart, funny, talented, and etcetera I think you are?”
“You think I’m going to fall for that when I just fed you the lines?” Before he could answer, I kissed him. Using his hand on my neck, he pulled me closer, forcing my lips open with his tongue. His other hand slid up my thigh, and even through jeans, my skin burned from his touch.

Rating: 4.5 stars

Faith Fitzpatrick isn’t looking for a hero. Burned one too many times in the past, she’s now sworn them off completely. And when her brother’s best friend, Connor, convinces him to join the dangerous SWAT team, Faith has never been more anti-hero. What’s wrong with having a safe job? There’s nothing safe about Connor. Confident, sexy, and sporting a six-pack that should be illegal, he’s everything she doesn’t want.

When his best friend’s sister moves to town, local cop Connor Maguire knows he’s in trouble. Faith is feisty, funny, and talks trash like nobody’s business. She’s also his partner’s sister—and so totally off limits. Working on the Fall Festival together, they agree to a truce and become friends. But the more time Connor spends with Faith, the more he’s willing to risk the wrath of her brother. If he could only convince her to take a risk on him, too.

In what will be no surprise to anyone, I adored Resisting the Hero. I've read all of Madsen's published books, and I've enjoyed every single on. So let me tell you exactly why I loved this one.

  • Resisting the Hero was funny. I knew I was in for an enjoyable ride when I busted out laughing twice within the first few paragraphs.
The bar was bursting with guys tonight--seriously, it was like Muscles R Us up in here, all filled-out chests and bulging arms with biceps upon biceps. Under other circumstances, Faith might take a moment to enjoy the view. But right now, she was looking for one particular meathead, and she happened to be related to him.

and...

"My friend and I were just talking about what a sausage fest this was, and then you came in." He ran his appraising gaze down her body, lingering on the V of her neckline.
Faith crossed her arms. "That works out, because I'm here for a weenie roast."

With funny little moments like this sprinkled throughout, Resisting the Hero made me smile and laugh repeatedly.

  • Faith Fitzpatrick is another of Madsen's signature heroines. And by that I mean, I adored her. Faith was snarky yet sweet. Though she's spent the last decade running from the pain of her father's tragic death, Faith is now determined to demand more of herself, men. Faith can and does stand up for herself and what she wants. She may be a pretty shoddy cook, but she can always whip up a heaping dose of sarcasm and wit.
"Now, behave will you? I'm trying to watch bugs catch a mate. See if I can't get some tips.
"Hell, make your ass glow, and I might take back everything I've said about you."

  • Connor Maguire is the total package. Now, I'm not emphasizing the physical here (though Connor is a total babe). Connor is a good man who's using his job to protect those who can't protect themselves. Connor knows what it's like to be helpless and afraid, and he is determined to do all he can for others.  Oh, Connor also collects Star Wars figures, and claims to even have the sheets. Connor was a bit of a playboy, but from the moment Faith puts him in his place, it's pretty much game over for him.

"Just give me a shot, Faith. I won't let you down, I swear."

  • Resisting the Hero brings us full circle in the Accidentally in Love series. The series began with Wes and Dani in Falling for Her Fiance, then we had Sawyer and Brynn in Act Like You Love Me. Due to close ties, between Wes and Connor and Faith and Brynn, I was very happy to see both couples again, particularly Wes and Dani because wedding bells are ringing! I love revisiting former series leads and seeing what happens after their happily ever after. The circle may be complete, but I will always remember each story fondly.

Cindi Madsen never fails to write stories I enjoy wholeheartedly. She always writes with such charm and wit, and creates characters who are utterly impossible not to love. If you are lucky for a series that will leave you with a smile on your face and a happy heart, I can't recommend Accidentally in Love highly enough.

Favorite Quotes:

When the knocking came again, Faith padded to the door and swung it open. Connor stood on the other side. He wore a light blue collared shirt with a police logo, black pants, and a belt with all the bells and whistles, including a gun and handcuffs.
In other words, he looked like uniformed police hotness, and she wasn't entirely uninterested in being cuffed. Wait, that a bad thought. I don't mean it. She took him in again, her throat suddenly dry. Well, she didn't exactly not mean it, but she knew better than to want it. Or something like that. She was still too asleep to think clearly.

  "So. Are we friends again?"
"'Again' is such a strong word," she joked. "But yes. I suppose we're friends."
"Who occasionally..." He dragged his slightly calloused thumb across the inside of her wrist and her pulse underneath the thin skin quickened in response. "Watch fireflies together."
She shook her head but couldn't help smiling. "Yes. That type of friends."

HOLIDAY REVIEWS: RIPPED, SLEIGH BELLS IN THE SNOW, STRANDED WITH A HERO

Ripped (Miller Sisters, #1)Series: Miller Sisters #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Cosmo Red Hot Reads from Harlequin
Publication Date: 11/26/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 95
Source: Author
Rating: 4 stars

"Wardrobe malfunction" doesn't begin to cover it.

With a rip louder than the "I dos," Hayley's hideous bile-yellow bridesmaid dress explodes. She's always had enviable curves, but nearly naked wasn't quite the look she'd been going for at her ex's wedding.

She's rushed from the altar under the best man's designer tux jacket. Hayley's expecting a blast of icy disapproval from sexy, sophisticated Niccolò Rossi—his usual reaction to anything she does. What she gets is a kiss that nearly melts what's left of her polyester nightmare gown.

It's impossible on a million levels. Exuberant engineer Hayley and buttoned-up lawyer Nico have never seen eye to eye—but skin to skin? Oh, mio… So when Nico shows up at her flat on Christmas Day to give her a fabulous gift—himself—Hayley's delighted to do the unwrapping. But it's just a holiday fling. By New Year's Day, she'll come back to her senses…unless Nico's sensual skills tear away all her resolve.

I was in the middle of reading Sarah Morgan's holiday story, Sleigh Bells in the Snow (review below), when I received the review request for Ripped. I'm so glad that I was becoming familiar with Morgan's work and enjoying it, or I might have otherwise let this one slip away. Ripped was a holiday novella that got me in the spirit, and in the mood.

Imagine how incredibly awkward it would feel to be a bridesmaid to your friend, and your ex. Awful, right? Now imagine the bride forced you to wear a hideous dress, a dress that splits the seams during the wedding. Everyone is laughing, staring... except for one man. The gorgeous and intense Best Man, Nico, who comes to the rescue. This crazy awkward scenario is what sets Ripped off to a fabulous start that left me giggling and flying through the pages.

But, Ripped is not only funny, but also very romantic and sexy. The story continues with the Miller sisters' annual Christmas party, and the sparks between Hayley and Nico fan to an out of control level. Nico Rossi = Best Christmas Gift Ever. The two get to know each other better, on all levels. The steam between Nico and Hayley was intense and sexy, but the story never lost its thoughtfulness, humor, and heart.

Ripped is a holiday romance that sends the year out with a bang. I will be anxiously awaiting the next Miller Sisters novella.

Favorite Quotes:

The dress was a horribly tight tube, floor length, which basically meant my legs were locked together. I couldn't even run away. I was like a mermaid, but without an ocean to drown in. Escape would be a slow, shuffling, breast-bouncing affair.    ~eARC, 13%

There was one part of him he couldn't control and that part was thrusting hard against a pair of black boxer briefs. I felt sympathy for those briefs. Containing an erection of that size just wasn't in the job description.   ~eARC, 67%

Publication Date: 10/29/13
Format: Paperback
Pages: 384

Rating: 4 stars

USA Today bestselling author Sarah Morgan heats up the season with the O'Neil brothers in a brand-new holiday series!

Once upon a time, Christmas was Kayla Green's favorite time of year. Now all the workaholic wants for Christmas is for it to be over—as fast as possible! So when duty calls her to snowy Vermont to close a deal with a new client, Kayla is grateful for an excuse to avoid the holidays for another year.

Jackson O'Neil left a thriving business behind to return home and salvage his family's resort—it's in his blood, and he can't let it fail. Now that he's got marketing whiz Kayla Green working with him to put Snow Crystal on the map, success is on the horizon. The fact they strike enough sparks off each other to power all the Christmas lights in Vermont is just an added bonus.

Kayla might be an expert at her job, but she's out of her depth with Jackson—he makes her crave the happy-ever-after she once dreamed of, and it's terrifying. As the snowflakes continue to swirl, will the woman who doesn't believe in the magic of Christmas finally fall under its spell?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17738241-sleigh-bells-in-the-snow?from_search=true

Sleigh Bells in the Snow first came to my attention in October. So many romance bloggers were recommending it for a great holiday read, and recommending Sarah Morgan in general. I'm thrilled that I caved to the blogger peer pressure, because I truly enjoyed this story.

Sleigh Bells in the Snow as a charming and romantic story of Kayla, a workaholic who is tasked with helping Jackson find a way to save his family's resort. At Christmas. Most people would avoid working over the holiday. Kayla, though, uses work to distance herself from the painful holidays of her childhood. Jackson, stressed by business and family, sees a woman who is hiding. He wants to break her free, and knows she is worth the effort.

Sleigh Bells in the Snow was not only inspiring, and frustrating, love story (due to Kayla's resistance to Jackson), but also a family story. Jackson's crazy awesome family was trying, funny, and lovable. We also get a nice glimpse of the other two O'Neil brothers, Tyler and Shane (Jackson's identical twin, YUM) and a strong sense of where the series is headed. In fact, the subplot with Tyler and his daughter Jess was so good that it almost stole the story. I'm very excited to continue with the O'Neil Brothers series.

Favorite Quote:

"It's time you had some new memories of Christmas, Kayla." His voice was as soft and gentle as the snow falling around them. "We're going to make them together so that you have something good to take away with you. That's my gift to you. Merry Christmas."   ~pg. 301

Stranded with a HeroSeries: Anthology
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled Bliss
Publication Date: 11/11/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 350
Source: Publisher
Rating: 4 stars

Getting snowed in never felt so good as boundaries are crossed, opposites attract, and friends discovering more promise a Christmas no one will ever forget.

Loving Mindy by Karen Erickson Mindy can’t believe she's stuck with her ex–best friend—and the man whose heart she broke years ago—for the holidays, though the tension between them is more than enough to keep them warm. Josh Powers never forgot Mindy, but he can’t risk his heart a second time.

White-Hot Holiday by Coleen Kwan Naomi’s sworn off men like Aaron—rich, cocky, and dismissive of holiday traditions. Aaron decided to spend Christmas in sunny Australia to avoid snowy New York, not to fall for the woman his best friend warned him away from. But when a volcano grounds him, Aaron and Naomi's relationship becomes eruptive.

An Officer and a Rebel by Cindi Madsen The last person police officer Nate Walsh expected to discover in a snowstorm is his brother's ex and former town rebel, Kelsey Cooper. She’s his complete opposite and totally off-limits, but as they wait out the storm together, all he can think is how he wishes she'd stay forever.

Saving the Sheriff by Roxanne Snopek Frankie Sylva was determined to free the reindeer cruelly held for a holiday roadshow, even if it meant risking her own life. Deputy Sheriff Red LeClair set out to save a stranger in a snowstorm, never expecting he’d be the one to be rescued.

Loving Mindy by Karen Erickson

Knowing that I love Erickson's work under the name Monica Murphy, I was excited to read Loving Mindy. This is a novella that is part of a on-going series, but I honestly didn't feel that I was lost or missing the details. Erickson did a solid job of giving just enough history, without dragging the current timeframe down.

Having both a second-chance-romance and a friends-to-lovers theme,  Loving Mindy is a beloved trope double-whammy. Mindy and Josh were both engaging characters, and I did become invested in their story in a very short amount of time. Bonus: this has me interested in reading the rest of Erickson's Lone Pine Lake series!

Favorite Quote:

"This is the best Christmas present I've ever received," she whispered. I'm so glad you almost hit my cat."
He laughed, the warm, rich sound making her smile. "That is the strangest thing you've said yet, Min, but I gotta agree. I'm glad I almost hit your cat, too."

White-Hot Holiday by Coleen Kwan

This was another really sweet, quick-paced holiday read. Set in Australia, White-Hot Holiday is the story of Aaron, who needs a break in the worst way, and Naomi, a woman who's been recently burned by love. This story had a good bit of angst, with Aaron and Naomi fighting their feelings. The angst is well-placed, though. Naomi is Aaron's best friend's niece, and he's been warned away from her. Naomi is dealing with a recent break-up with a man whom Aaron seems similar to. And there's also the pesky issue of the fact these two not only live on different continents, but almost an entire globe away. Naomi teaches Aaron to embrace the holiday spirit. Aaron convinces Naomi that she doesn't have to give up who she is for love again. The ending of this one was particularly good.

Favorite Quote:

"I'm very good at customer service. See these dimples here?" He pointed at his cheek. "They're my secret weapon. I've closed major deals with them."
A smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "I see. So dimples are worth more than an MBA from Columbia?"
"Used judiciously, yes. They don't teach you the proper use of dimples at Columbia. It comes from experience."

An Officer and a Rebel by Cindi Madsen

Cindi Madsen is a favorite of mine, and I love her Accidentally in Love series. Remember Wes from Falling for her Fiance? Nate is his cousin, so I think that is pretty much all I need to say to convince fans that An Officer and a Rebel is worth the read.

As always, Madsen has created a story that made me laugh, and warmed my heart at the same time. Her heroine, Kelsey was a little bit crazy, a whole lot funny, and adorable. She's a little bit of a disaster, the good kind, so of course I loved her and her purple hair and potty mouth.

This story has a nice little forbidden(-ish) romance, with Kelsey being the ex-girlfriend of Nate's younger brother. There is also the fact that Nate has always had a bit of a crust on Kelsey, but thought she could never go for him. Of course things work out, but in this story, the getting there was a whole lot of fun.

Favorite Quote:

His heart pounded in his chest, and he pushed his hand into her hair, desire flooding his veins once more. Addictive--that was the right word for being with Kelsey. Never enough, always wanting more.

Saving the Sheriff by Roxanne Snopek

Of the four author in the anthology, Snopek is the only one whose work I wasn't familiar with. Saving the Sheriff was fast-paced and fairly humorous story. I enjoyed the premise, with Frankie infiltrating a man who's endangering game, and she's determined to save them from the butcher. Red is the sheriff in need of rescuing, which, I think what needed to be saved was his surly attitude. (just kidding, he was fine)

Frankie was fun and lively. Red was coping with his first Christmas since divorce, and was understandably a bit of a sad sack. I never really fell in love with the characters as much as I enjoyed the premise. What made this fun for me was the humor. I loved how these two teased one another. And the ending, it was another sweet and satisfying conclusion.

Favorite Quote:

"You look good in the morning." Red half-sat up against the couch, his arms crossed behind his head, a lazy grin on his face.
"You could dial back the crazy a touch, though."

Troy’s been nothing but supportive, but Summer can see her secret weighs on him, and she worries the more she tells him, the sooner he’ll decide he can’t deal with her freaky life. But when a murderer is thrown into the mix, and the girl he killed keeps asking Summer for help, she’ll risk everything to make sure the guy gets what he deserves.

Rift, the second book in Cindi Madsen's Cipher series, about a young woman who's inherited the job of helping the dying mend relationships before they die. In the first book, Summer learned what it truly meant to be a Cipher, and came to terms with how it would affect her life. And she won the boy. In Rift, Summer continues to help those who need her, but she's also dealing with just how much this phenomena disrupts her life and relationships. But not only does she have this to contend with, but a strange occurrence has her seeing the dead, and the balance between average teenager and Cipher is harder to maintain.

So though I don't often read paranormal books, I really do enjoy this series. Some of that is attributed to the fact that I see this series as Magic Realism, with the paranormal being a part, but not all of the story. I feel that Madsen has done a thorough, and interesting, job of creating the Ciphers.

What I really appreciate about Rift, and the whole series, is that the heart of the story, is a young woman who is trying to not only help those who need her, but is also balancing school, a boyfriend, friends, issues with her dad, among others. This is a story that I enjoyed, but I feel is the perfect fit for teens. Many readers have taken issue with the portrayal of teens in some of the popular paranormal romances. These issues have included passive heroines, controlling heroes, and an unrealistic or unhealthy portrayal of the lives of teens. But in the Cipher series, Madsen has done a very nice job of conveying healthy, honest, and realistic situations. Not only is Summer a Cipher, but she is also dealing with a friend in crisis. She has a boyfriend she loves, but is unsure about taking the next step in their physical relationship. Her dad is ready to become more serious with his girlfriend, but Summer is afraid her mother will be forgotten. I find stories like this, in which any teen can find something to relate to, to be invaluable. And the fact that Summer's story is so thoughtfully told makes it more so.

Rift was a very good addition to the Cipher series. As usual, Madsen's writing is very charming and fast-paced. I'm not sure at all what is going to happen next in the series, but I'm excited to find out.

"Keep your shirt on." Liam looked at her and grinned. "Or don't."
Summer smacked him. "Very funny. And just so you know, no  matter how excited I get, the shirt's staying on. Who really rips their shirt off when they get impatient?"
The car behind them honked, and she glanced in the rearview mirror. "See. He's obviously impatient and his shirt's still totally on him."   ~eARC, 77%

"I do love Kendall. You know how she can be. She's bossy and demanding, but she's smokin' hot, and she can be sweet when she wants to be. And dude, so many guys are jealous-- they'd kill to be in my place."

BLISS' TRICK OR SWEET HALLOWEEN HAUNT: CINDI MADSEN

Coming 10/29

Halloween for many is a time to dress up and have some fun.  Ever wonder what your favorite Entangled Bliss author’s best Halloween costumes have been or what their favorite Halloween memory is?  Follow the Bliss Trick or Sweet Halloween Haunt to check them all out.

I am so excited to welcome my friend Cindi Madsen to the blog!

Here Comes Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

One of my favorite Halloweens was the year I dressed up as Buffy and somehow convinced my hubby to be Angel. He agreed as long as he didn’t have to do much, thus the fake teeth. I’ve always been a Buffy fan, and I like to think I can wield a mean wooden stake. Even more fun, for critique group around Halloween, my writing partners and I dressed up. One of my friends writes adult vampire novels, so of course she was a vampire, and I was the slayer. Then we had a Guinevere in the mix. I still kick myself for not getting a pic of all of us together dressed like that. But I do have a couple of me and my husband in our outfits. Both Buffy and Angel, and then that moment Angelus comes out and I—Buffy—had to put the beat down.

REVIEW: CINDERELLA SCREWED ME OVER by CINDI MADSEN

Cinderella Screwed Me OverGenre: Women's Fiction/Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Publication Date: 10/22/13
Format: eARC
Pages: 308
Source: Received from publisher for review
Rating: 5 stars

Cinderella Screwed Me Over is a book I have been waiting on for months. From the vibrant and eye-catching cover to the promise of a funny and charming story of a woman who's over the promise of fairy tales, I just knew that I would enjoy this book. And I did.

Cinderella Screwed Me Over (is that not the best title?!) was written in such a clever manner. Darby Quinn has had enough of the Disney-fed fairy tales we've all grown up on. After years of looking for a Prince and landing a frog, Darby is no longer buying the promise of a Prince and Happily Ever After. Over the years of heartache and disappointment, Darby has accumulated case files, comparing the men in her life to Disney Princes. From Prince Charming to Robin Hood to The Beast, you name a Disney man, Darby's boyfriends can be compared to each in some way, along with the lesson she learned. When she meets charming, gorgeous, and sweet Jake, Darby has a difficult time fitting him into a place in her case files. Jake wants a relationship, Darby insists she doesn't believe in long-term love. And though Jake proves himself time and again, she just can't quite take the leap and admit that maybe love isn't a bad word. Will Darby begin to believe in fairy tales, or will she push true love away for good?

Besides the romantic story, this really is a personal journey for Darby. I loved that Madsen took the time to focus on her as an individual and not just make this a story on winning a guy. Darby was a funny and winsome heroine, but also very headstrong and set in her ways. She was tough yet sweet, and I liked that she never lost either aspect to her personality even as she began to change. Jake was really a great leading man. I liked that he was so nice and charming, and especially that he was patient with Darby. These two had great banter, which is really a strong point for Madsen. A story that can make me laugh and swoon is always going to win with me.

At this point, I think it is fairly established that I am a big fan of Madsen's work. Although I go in certain I will enjoy the book, I am surprised again and again by just how much. It seems that her writing suits me perfectly, or maybe I am perfectly suited to her writing. Either way, Cinderella Screwed Me Over is another charming book from Cindi Madsen. My favorite yet.

Favorite Quotes:

"I have to admit," I said when he finished a lengthy discussion on the types of drivers, "I've been golfing and it's about the most boring thing I've ever done. Old men drive around in golf carts pretending they're sporty and getting grouchy if there's any noise. It's like the nursing-home Olympics."
Nick's mouth dropped open. "It takes great athletic ability to know how to aim and drive the ball that far."
"I get more exercise shopping at the mall," I joked. "I don't come home and tell everyone I won at shopping." Although those red shoes I got on sale the other day felt like a win.   ~eARC, 8%

"I like you, too," I said, my voice coming out breathy. "But I always choose the wrong guys. Always. Trust me, I've studied all my relationships in and out, and no matter how much I learn, I still choose wrong."
Jake put his hand on my hip, like he'd done so many times before, and slid his thumb between my shirt and pants, brushing the skin underneath. "I guess it's a good thing I chose you, then."
