The Friday Five - 10/19/14

The Friday Five is a post I've been seeing around the internet for the past few years, in various forms. In my version, I will be sharing five finds/thoughts/whatever from the past week.

1 - I'd told myself I was going to keep the Outlander creeping to a minimum here, but it can't be helped. You guys, this Saturday...it's The Wedding episode! Words can't do my love for this series, and show, justice. The word I'm looking for is obsessed. Anyway...

Y'all want to see the slow-mo clip of Jamie and Claire getting ready to Do It?

We have more pre-wedding clips!

This one makes me smile and my heart flutter. How freaking sweet are Jamie and Murtagh?! http://outlandertvnews.com/2014/09/clip-from-outlander-episode-107-the-wedding/

Okay. I'm calm... ish.

2 -
Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire, #2)

Right now I'm reading Voyager (Outlander #3) and it's killing me so well. I love it. I'm also digging into Chained by Night by Larissa Ione. It's the second in her MoonBound Clan Vampire series, and if you're looking for a good PNR, give this a try. My review posts late this month.

3 - The family was invited to a birthday-costume party tomorrow. Because I'm too tall and have too much boobage for a lot of costumes, and I don't want to dress up like a slutty bumblebee, I don't really do costumes. I had an idea to wear Maleficent horns and lots of black and call it a day. Found this tutorial on making my own set. Joke's on me because I could've bought them cheaper. Wish me luck.

4 - I'm a big fan of SoA, but have really struggled to get back into it this season. I don't know if it's just my mind, or that Jax, Gemma and the gang have all gone too far for me. All I can say is, the sooner Juice and his gross, wimpy 'stach go down, the better. Do you watch SoA? Is it just me struggling?

5 - You can chalk a bit of this one up to Outlander (I know... shut up about it, right?), but mostly to need sources I follow on twitter. I've been loving all the pics leading up to the Scottish Independence Referendum. As of my writing this, the results were not in yet, but maybe leaning to a No vote. Either way, it's been inspiring.

My feelings have nothing to do with Sam Heughan or kilts. NOPE.

  1. 1. There are only 2 episodes left?????? No way. I want to kill the Captain.
    2. Nice. Looking forward to your review.
    3. Um, yes. I'm at the point where I just want it all to be over already. Gemma pointing the finger was STUPUD! Bullshit about him needing closer, she just started a friggin war for nothing. AD, why was Jax released in the first episode? I know they didn't have anything to hold him for the murder, but what about the guns from last season? That was the whole point of all those good-byes and him turning himself in. It's like that was just forgot about. Happy is so psycho hot, though. lol
    4. I hear ya.
    5. I don't think it passed.

    1. Two episodes left until the mid-season break. Won't return until early Spring. My dvr may not survive the break...

  2. Yes I feel the way about Outlander --wedding :)
Yes I am not feeling it this year with SOA. Gemma needs to go down.

    1. I won't be happy unless Gemma dies.

      Sam...always Sam.

  3. All I'm thinking about when I see Jamie these days is "Bow-chicka-wow-wow" and the p*rn music starts... (I'm a dirty girl.) And, even though the end result was a decision to stay part of the UK, I've been fascinated by the events in Scotland, annoying pretty much everyone around me who didn't care nearly as much as I did about what was happening. I think the decision is a practical one, though my freedom-loving heart wanted them to become their own nation, despite all the repercussions and challenges that would have presented in this modern world. Have a great weekend! Let's get it on, Jamie and Claire (I almost typed my name in there...oops.).

  4. Yay - I love this! I've been wanting you to do a non-bookish thoughts post. :)
I love your enthusiasm for Outlander. It's contagious. I am still slowly working my way through the first book - almost halfway! And I do enjoy it. It's a slow burn for me, but I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around. I want to watch the show after I get through the first book. Glad you enjoy the show just as much!

I never watched SOA and feel like I'm missing out.

Have fun at the party! Hope the costume works out for you - it's a great idea!

And yes, the Scottish Independence voting has been really exciting to read about. People are very passionate! :)

  6. I stopped watching SoA a few seasons ago. I am curious to see how it ends but I gave up on that group long ago.

    Good luck with your costume!

  7. I'm so glad you drank the Outlander Kool-Aid Andrea! In Canada we are two episodes behind, but as I heard that there will be a break shortly and the rest of the episodes in the spring, I'm thinking that I'm going to save them up for a binge watch over Christmas holidays (which I realize is still a while away, so I may not make it that long). I've been so busy reading at night with so many books that I want to read that tv is taking second place at the moment so I haven't started the show yet but they are safely on my pvr. And all your status updates on goodreads are seriously making me want to start the books again, and really I don't have the time for that!

    1. Yay! I can't wait for you to watch. I think you'll be super pleased.

      The kool aid tastes good!

  8. I am feeling the same way with SOA. Jax has always been my emotional tether on that show and with him being so lost, I'm not able to get a handle on him and it worries me.

Now onto the important stuff: I love you my Outlander Frankenstein!!! I take almost full credit and let me just say that haivng you fangirl like properly in such an amazing way is giving me more joy than you can realize. I would say it is not measurable, but we always have #NINE. *smooches*

Is it bad that I feel worst of all for Sam Heughan. I mean, bae is sad. I guess it's an OK thing they are filming the abbey stuff this week. Poor lovey.

  9. LOL a slutty bumblebee. Love Ione! I haven't gotten that one yet. As for Scotland. That was quite the thing. I was kinda sad that it didn't happen. Very interesting to watch unfold though :)

    1. I felt sad about Scotland too. The disappintment must be thick.

Hope you can try Chained by Night soon.

  10. 1. I'm still on the fence when it comes to the Outlander Starz series. I'm almost wishing that I hadn't read the books and I think I would enjoy it more. Sam is not doing it for me just yet on screen but Jamie didn't do it for me too much until after the wedding in the books and further truth, not until book 2 and 3 I think. My love grew for him with each book.

    3. Girl, it's ok about being all about that bass, that bass, no teble. Just sayin'

    4. I had a hard time watching Episode one and I slept right through episode 2 and it didn't bother me at all. I think I'm done with Gemma and as for Jax... what can you even say?

    5. The Scots have been through a bunch and still do. If they want it, let them have it. Ehhh but to each his own. Ya, know?

  11. 1. OH but to clarify things a bit, Garrison Commander was insanely good. I think I just don't understand some of the changes and where everything is going, although listening to Ron's podcasts are helping a little.

    1. I haven't listened to the podcasts yet, but I've stored them on my phone. Tobias Menzies is playing BJR like a frickin violin!

  12. I hope your costume turns out! I can't really buy a lot of costumes either, plus they are so expensive. i really need to figure one out for next month though.

  13. Excited for The Wedding too! Also sad that Scotland didn't gain independence but at least theBritish flags stays the same. Stopped watching SoA, I find it hard to sympathize with them. Good luck with your costume!

  14. The wedding!!!

I never even considered the Union Jack. So disappointed for Scotland.

  15. THE WEDDING SCENE!!! Let's be honest, everyone has been waiting for this moment haha. I'm actually behind 3 episodes so I'm catching up (actually watching it as I speak). The show is just ahhh, wonderfully amazing. And it's portrayal of the story is spot on in my opinion! Murtagh was one of my favorite secondaries :D Hmm, PNR with vampires? Yes please. Adding to my tbr. Great costume choice by the way, I loved Maleficient! Have fun tomorrow :)

  16. 1. Ahh, I refuse to watch Outlander until I've read the book. I swear I'll get to that series... I will! Haha.
    2. Oh my gosh, I actually LOVE Larissa Ione, but I didn't love the first vampire novel. :( (Can't remember the name, atm.) Bound by.. or something? But have you read her Demonica novels? Oh, girl! I ate those suckers up!
    3. Girl, own that boobage! I wish I could have some to flaunt around! Lol!
    4. Oh god... what is SoA? I have no idea. :( Is it a TV show? I never know anything about TV shows. XDDD
    5. Aaaannnd the vote was no for Scotland. I didn't keep up with this as much as I wish I had, but I saw the opinions after the fact and they seem very divided.

  17. Okay it is decided. My next break from work will be an all out Outlander binge. Books and TV. it must happen!

  18. I had to quit watching SOA during season 3. Jax broke my heart and I never recovered. After what you've told me about it after that...I'm glad I quit,

I love that you're obsessed with Outlander! I don't like that you posted a spoiler video of tonight's episode though. I'm trying so hard to be GOOD, damn you!

I was hoping the vote for Scotland would swing YES but oh well. I totally love that Sam is holding a YES sign. He wants the rising!!! LOL Great post!

  19. I'm loooooving Outlander and am so excited for the wedding tonight. I told my husband that we should dress up and drink wine while we watch, I'm sure you can imagine the look he gave me.

I love SOA too, and agree that something is missing (I think it's Tara, and the romance element), I'm going to keep watching, even though I'm terrified of what's going to happen. It's one of my favorite shows and I'm invested in what happens in the characters.

  20. Oh I love this post! Um...I know nothing about Outlander. *runs to hide*

I will say that I don't do costumes. I was once a wizard and that was about the best it got. (It was a Wizard of Oz theme and all the 8th grade teachers took one character. Math teacher got the Wizard. Yep, I was a Math Wizard.)

Oh, and I got my nails done - purple of course but this week they have spider webs on them!

  21. I love fun memes!
My sister just started watching/reading Outlander :)
I could never get into SoA, which is weird because I like that kind of stuff.

  22. I love this post! How fun! I'm sorry I've been away from your blog for so long. I promise to be better! I love the Outlander posts and blame my new addiction on YOU!

And yes, I'm struggling with SOA this season. I'm too involved with my Jamie and Claire infatuation.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great post, Andrea. And I'm so glad you've found a series to be obsessed with. That's how I feel about Rock Chick - thanks to you - so maybe I'll have to make another bet and use Outlander as the 'prize'.
