Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for better part of the last few years…and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome. But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to Confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt…and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy on the eyes deacon…only eight months away from becoming a priest. As Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.
A Little Too Far has been one of my most highly anticipated books of the year. I put a lot of pressure on this book, perhaps a little too much.... But rest assured, because A Little Too Far delivered in a huge way. It was FAB-U-LOUS.
I think stories are best left to be read, not summarized in a review. And trust me, even a world-class summarization could do justice to the characters (OMG Trent!), or just how beautifully Desrochers depicted this story of love and guilt and duty and fate. Lexie's story, that of a young woman drawn to two seemingly out-of-reach men, Trent and Alessandro, was about so much more than physical attraction and the allure of forbidden love. It was a tender and thoughtful look at love and the choices it sometimes leads you to. Of finally finding your forever love and deciding if that leap of faith is worth the risk. (The answer is always YES.)
A Little Too Far is the first of Desrochers books I've had the joy of reading, though I do own her Personal Demons series. I have to say, I'm a new fan. Through her words, I experienced the beautiful city of Rome, and the historical works of art that fill it. I also experience the wonders of Corsica, and the natural beauty that makes it a treasure. I also experienced the high of realizing joy and the fulfillment that can only be found in the arms of love. I experienced angst, not the kind of angst that makes you ill with fury at the characters, but the sort of angst that has you flying through the pages, leading me to breeze through A Little Too Far in record time.
A Little Too Far is more than a story of sex and temptation. It is a beautiful love story, and without a doubt, one of my favorite books of 2013. And I can also say the second book in the series, A Little Too Much, is now my newest most highly anticipated book of 2013.

I have seen this book around and read some really great reviews for it. It sounds like a different NA book and that is amazing. I'm so glad you enjoyed it Andrea :)
ReplyDeleteWoot, woot! I'm so glad you liked it. Most of the people have and Nick enjoyed it a lot, too. I just can't wait to try it. I'm afraid my heart will break a little (or much) since I'm so afraid of love triangles. However, the premise sounds still as good as ever and I love the quotes you added :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to read this book! I have been dying to read this one forever! It just sounds awesome and so many people love it! Great review Andrea!

ReplyDeleteThis is a review from you that I've been anxiously anticipating, Andrea! ;) I went ahead and one-clicked A Little Too Far because I just really don't have any patience. LOL But I'm so very glad that you loved it so much. I can't wait to experience, Rome, and Corsica, and the art. Most of all, I'm anxious to experience this unique love story. ReplyDeleteThis book looks really good and I love finding hidden jems!! As for too far - that was the summer I was 18 and did plenty of stuff that was way too far. I guess in the end I learned from my mistakes, but I sure hope I can avoid the same things for my daughters!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful review Andrea. I am glad you loved this. It is such a good book. I was Team Trent all the way :)
ReplyDeleteDamn! The quotes you always include! KILLER!
ReplyDeleteI was put off but he subject matter at first but after reading a few reviews I think I might give it a try.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, your new favourite of the year, that's some high praise. I love that it sounds like you got so much out of the writing, explored Rome, learned about some art and fell in love with the characters. That is a definite sign of some strong writing!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gone to far! This book sounds like an amazing read. It will go on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteIn my college days I used to go a little too far. Not anymore.

I loved this book girl! SO SO MUCH! I'm so happy you did too! OMG- Trent.... yeah, he stole my heart from the get-go! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous review, Andrea! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this book as much as I did. I was a bit afraid when I first started the book that it would be about forbidden sex mostly, but I was completely surprised by how much the author focused on the emotional aspect of the relationships rather than the physical aspect.
ReplyDeleteI see that you're a Trent fangirl. I think I fell for Alessandro a bit harder than I fell for Trent (OK, that just seems too wrong, but seriously that guy was a sweet-heart). I'm excited for Lisa's next book as well. It's going to be even more epic from what I can tell!
Looking forward to this one and the great love story and being forbidden just draws me in even more!! LOL
ReplyDeleteWonderful review & quotes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteI loved this book so much, and am dying to read A Little Too Much! I loved the quotes you chose, and loved your review :)

Really? Oh good! I need to get to it but was frankly worried it wouldn't live up to the hype. Thanks pal.
ReplyDeleteLovely review, Andrea. I'm so with you about not summarizing the plot. I'm trying to cut my summaries and reviews down a little, but sometimes it's hard! You've given me just enough that I want to pick this up! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot about this one and when I first saw it, I was definitely intrigued by the premise! Really excited to check this one out. =)
