Blog Tour: Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton ~ Review and Giveaway

Welcome to the Rusty Nailed Blog Tour! My stop includes my review and a giveaway. Thanks for stopping by!

Rusty Nailed (Cocktail, #2)Series: Cocktail #2
Genre: Contemp. Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 6/24/14
Format: eARC
Pages: 320
Source: Publisher
Rating: 4 stars

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.
Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?
USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

Review

Oh, Simon and Caroline, how I've missed you two! I loved Wallbanger - smile every time I think about how it made me laugh, and was excited when I learned we would get more of this ridiculously witty, sexy couple. But I will say outright, I was very worried when it came time to pick up Rusty Nailed. I was happy that the two had gotten their happily ever after and wasn't too keen on seeing them go through whatever trials I assumed would come their way.

Rusty Nailed is what-happens-next story, what comes after the happy ending. How Simon and Caroline's lives change, and how they stay the same in so many ways, as they become more established. Like all real relationships, some aspects are smooth (such as wallbanging) and some take a adjustment (brutal work hours and the need for space). The pair had a lot to work through in this installment. Caroline is moving on up in the design world, and it's up to her to discover whether she can do it all, or if she even wants it. Simon, he melted me heart. I like that we get to see him deal with his losses, and though it killed me to see it, his willingness to expose his vulnerabilities to and with Caroline are what made Rusty Nailed shine. I appreciate that Clayton always keeps it real, and that she explores the true issues real couples go through as they evolve. I also love the fact that it didn't feel like Rusty Nailed was thrown together to just have another story, with forced issues used to drive the story. Any problems or struggles Simon and Caroline faced? They're the same issues real couples go through. Miscommunications and immaturity didn't drive this story. Love did.

And you know what? Rusty Nailed was really freaking romantic. I mean, I know it's a romance, but I feel like Clayton is an old soul, as are her characters, and she infuses that romance into her stories. It's a kind of charm I don't often find in novels, which of course makes these stand out. It's also, you guessed it, hilarious. I love witty people, in real life and in my romance. This must be some of the wittiest group of fake humans I've ever come across. The best friends were great comic relief,

especially Sophia and Neil who were freaking insane. I loved it.

Oh yeah...Rusty Nailed was also damn sexy. Simon Parker and his wallbanging hips can whoa me any day. Hypothetically, of course.
The Cocktail series is one filled with friendships, wit, sexy times, and a love story that just won't quit. I'm happy that I've had the opportunity to experience this series and am more than happy to recommend.

 Favorite Quotes

Not all men can handle to P-word. And boy, is that a mouthful. Ahem. Some say it all the time, some use it in common conversation. But a good P-word is all about the placement: when to say it, where to say it, how to say it. Dirty talk is an art. Do it too often, it becomes routine. Never do it, and you're missing something. Simon did it just right. He was like a perfect bowl of smutty porridge: just right.

When you were in a long-distance relationship, of course you made the most of the time you were together. But sometimes, it was the unexpected that really made the difference. The unexpected emotions you were hit with when you saw that face, looked into those eyes, felt those lips. The unexpected reminder of why you fell in love with this person could hit you so powerfully. And this was that time. I memorized his face, felt every line and every pattern, drew his temple, his nose, his dimple, the bow of his lip, drew it all with my fingertips and memorized it once more.
"I love you, Simon. Love you, love you, love you so much," I chanted as he laid me down, peeled the clothes from my body and his own, and entered me.

His gaze grew wistful, and he looked so young. "I don't want to put things off, even though we haven't been together a really long time. I don't want to wait--you never know what can...Look. I adore you, and I want a home. Again. With you."

About the author
Alice ClaytonNovelist Alice Clayton makes her home in St. Louis where she enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up after, and is trying desperately to get her long-time boyfriend to make her an honest woman–and please buy her a Bernese Mountain dog.

After working for years in the cosmetics industry as a makeup artist, esthetician, and educator, Alice picked up a pen (read laptop) for the first time at 33 to begin a new career: author. Having never written anything longer than a grocery list, she soon found writing to be the creative outlet she’d been missing since walking away from the theater 10 years before.

She has a great time combining her love of storytelling with a sense of silly, and she was shocked and awed to be nominated for a Goodreads Author award in 2010 for her debut novels, the first two installments of The Redhead Series–The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed. Her latest novel Wallbanger is a return to her trademark comedic erotica, or funny smut, that Alice has become known for.

Additionally, Alice loves spending time with her besties on Not Your Mother’s Podcast (check them out on iTunes) and has recently partnered with actor Greg Grunberg, blogger Brittany Gibbons, and actress Keili Lefkovitz on a new travel show that will begin filming in January.

Alice enjoys pickles, Bloody Marys, eight hours of sleep and a good pounding

My Teaser ~

I dropped my head to my desk. Monica was the most talented, most mature young woman I knew. I would have killed for the poise she possessed at such a young age -- except when Wallbanger was involved. Then she turned to goo. I could relate. And she didn't even know he had the power to move an entire bed with the strength of his hips alone.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: 12/17/13
Format: Paperback
Pages: 320
Source: Publisher
Rating: 4.5 stars

The third sexy novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s playful and erotic Redhead series continues the sizzling romance between actress Grace Sheridan and Hollywood’s hottest leading man Jack Hamilton.

Grace has landed the lead in a new TV series—but when the director asks her to lose fifteen pounds, she goes public with her weight struggles and suddenly develops a huge fan club who support her right to have curves. But between that and the public’s continuing fascination with her “are they or aren’t they” relationship with Jack, Grace begins to wonder if anyone’s really interested in her because of her upcoming TV series, or if it’s all speculation about the size of her ass and her bedroom partner.

Meanwhile, Jack is voted the Sexiest Man Alive and becomes a little too enamored with the party-hard lifestyle. Grace vows to give him the space he needs to find himself, but then he begins to spiral down from lovable Brit to Hollywood brat. People are talking, but are Jack and Grace? Her career is on the rise, and his continues into the stratosphere, but will she be able to catch him if he falls? Will they ever be able to just be a couple who can hold hands when they walk down the street?

In late 2012, I went on a heavy duty Alice Clayton binge. I read -and loved- Wallbanger, then dived straight into the Redhead Series, which I loved even more. Jack and Grace and their sweet romance won my heart. Their relationship was intriguing; with Jack being a new, huge Hollywood heartthrob and Grace his older (by nine years) still unknown lover. Grace loved Jack's charm, running her fingers through his soft hair, and the fact he loves her exactly as she is. Jack loved long sexy showers, Grace's heart, and her boobies, even when they sparkle. Theirs is a match that made me ridiculously happy. So much so that I insisted my husband read the series so I could try to force him to be my Jack. (I'm kidding. But seriously, he did read and love the series. What can I say, he likes the sexy and witty women, and Clayton brought the funny. )
So you would think that I would have read The Redhead Plays Her Hand the moment it showed on my doorstep (thank you Gallery!) unexpectedly, wouldn't you? I wanted to. But what happened was: I promptly put that puppy straight into the freezer. I just couldn't handle the thought of my beloved George and Gracie -Sweet Nuts and Crazy- in turmoil once again. I gave myself two months to calm my tits, put on my big girl undies, and I pulled Redhead #3 out of the freezer.

Guys, despite my fears,  I loved The Redhead Plays Her Hand. The story picks up with the couple in question in transition. Grace's star is rising; Jack's is burning out of control. This is very much a story about a couple in near-crisis. But really, it is just as much a story about each character's individual story.

Grace is headlining a new show for a cable network, which is awesome for our favorite redhead. But despite her success, her relationship with Jack overwhelms all else. As does her body. Grace is a beautiful woman with a beautiful, natural body. Hollywood is obsessed with picking her apart. I loved seeing Grace struggle with her perception in the media and Hollywood, come to some healthy realizations, and become a spokeswoman for health.

As for Jack, I won't lie, as much as I've always adored the Brit, he thoroughly pissed me off in this book. I got his struggles, truly.  I could never endure the scrutiny and violation of privacy. I just hated to see him make such bad decisions, hurting Grace along the way. But, leave it to Crazy to be strong and pull her Brit through.

I honestly wasn't sure what I would get in The Redhead Plays Her Hand. I was certain there would be some bad decisions and heartache. I knew I would get laughter and possibly some heartache. I knew I would get seriously sexy moments that had me wishing for my own Hamilton Brand. I hoped -and was almost certain- I would get that happily ever after. I will say that Alice Clayton has once again made me a happy reader. I'm happy I gave the Redhead Series a try and thrilled I finally took this book out of my freezer.

Favorite Quotes:

In this moment, in this car, on this stretch of highway, we were a couple in love. We were not an older woman and a younger man, Jack wasn't the Sexiest Man Alive, bit he was the sexiest man in my world. I wasn't an up-and-coming actress who'd been asked about the size of her boyfriend's dick the night before by a total stranger, I was a girl in a convertible in my pajamas, holding hands with the man I was in love with.
And for the record, it was perfectly sized.

He pressed countless kisses into my skin, shifting me in his arms so I could wrap my legs around his waist as he walked, feeling his strong body underneath and all around me. In between the thousand kisses, his lips told me how beautiful I looked tonight, how lovely, how he couldn't believe I was his, how he didn't deserve me. I tried to argue with him, but each time I tried to speak he planted another searing kiss on me, stopping my thoughts right in their track and funneling them into an entirely different thought process-- one where we existed alone, just mouths and lips and arms and legs and tongues and all the time in the world.

As their careers catch fire, Grace and Jack -- everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed, funny, and feisty couple -- find themselves on opposite coasts. Grace has landed in New York City, where she loves being onstage again, particularly because she’s playing a fabulous character in a musical written by her old college flame, Michael. Their rekindled friendship makes exploring the city that much more fun.

Wait, it’s just friendship, right?

Meanwhile, in L.A., Jack can scarcely keep up with the swirling throngs of women who track him everywhere he goes, the endless press appearances, and the ridiculous rules his manager, Holly, keeps concocting for him -- all part of the buildup to the release of Time, his steamy new film.

Thank goodness for phone sex.

But even when their schedules allow them to connect, Grace and Jack must keep their relationship off the radar and away from paparazzi cameras. Sure, the sex is sensational, but can this duo survive swirling rumors, the demands of their chosen professions, Grace’s raging internal battles, and a whopping nine-year age difference?

Tick-tock, the clock is ticking. Isn’t it?

Alice Clayton brings the second installment of a tale told with her magical mix of humor and heat, so cuddle up under the sheets and flip on the Golden Girls. Grace and Jack are at it again.
I AM IN LOVE. SO IN LOVE. You see, if there's one thing that I love more than a steamy romantic story, it is a steamy romantic story that makes me laugh out loud. A book that makes me giggle, repeat the dialogue to my husband to prove to him how fantastic it truly is, a book that reminds me that the very best love story is one that is built around love and laughter.

I needed the Redhead Series, so badly. I had come off some truly wonderful books, but they were emotionally draining. I swear, if I read about one more traumatized young girl and the stoic, smart boy who loved her...I was going to stick my head in the oven. Or something. I needed romance. I needed love. I needed laughter. I needed a book that would carry me away. I did one better, finding two fantastic books that totally won my heart and mind.

Grace and Jack are perfect.  Jack is a twenty-four year old up and coming actor. The hottest guy in Hollywood, the world. Pretty young things are falling at Jack's feet, every guy's wet dream, yes? But when Jack meets Grace, a thirty-three year old aspiring actress, sparks fly, laughs ensue, and a Crazy Love is born.

You would think with the age difference, Grace would be the voice of reason amid the insanity that is their lives. That is so not the case. Jack, he has knowledge, insight...skills that belie his young age. He's the reason to Grace's crazy. The calm to her storm. The George to her Gracie.

I cannot even do justice to the Redhead Series, to how immensely happy both books made.me. I laughed. I swooned. I started swearing more around the house. The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed are my new Happy Place. The books are perfect. I've ordered my print copies and anxiously await the moment that I can pet them, hold them, and squeeze them tightly to my bosom. (kidding! kind of...) I need more Jack and Grace in my life.  I will be first on line to nab book three.

Can't recommend The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed highly enough. Alice Clayton is my new hero.

Favorite Quote:

"Two hours?" Jack interrupted, looking insulted. "A really good, thorough, dinner will take at least three to four hours, maybe even longer. It depends on how hungry you are, how satisfied you want to be. You might even want multiple courses. Courses, that is," he finished, surreptitiously snaking his arm around my waist and pulling me back against him. His eyes were on fire as he looked at me and I could no longer feel my legs. What was directly above my legs however, I could feel intensely.
~ The Unidentified Redhead

He had flashed me a triumphant grin--there was nothing like a proud, proud man. A man should feel pride in his work...and making me come was now his job. I had never been given it so good in my life. My throat was hoarse, my legs were on permanent shimmy-shake, and I could not wipe the grin from my tired face.
~The Unidentified Redhead

"Grace, I think I can honestly say, with no second thoughts, that there isn't another pair of boobies on the planet that I'd rather have in my hands than yours. Sleeping or otherwise," he stated, with a glance at my chest.
~The Unidentified Redhead

"Grace? I just want you to know, well, how glad I am that I met you. I can't imagine my life without your crazy, sexy, beautiful ass in it now," he whispered in my ear....
~The Unidentified Redhead

I heard nothing but his quiet laughter, and then his perfect voice whispered, "Aw, Gracie, I missed you too.
And then I tasted nothing but his sweet lips, pressed firmly to mine, as I kissed him like it was my job.
~The Redhead Revealed

I smiled as I watched him, his chest rising and falling with his breathing. He looked so sweet, so vulnerable. I sank down on the bed next to him, and he rolled over toward me in his slumber. His arms reached out and he mumbled, "Tits, please..."
I sighed and slipped into his arms. Snuggled in, with his ever-present hands on my ever constant boobies, I let my Brit sleep. I loved him, you see...
~The Redhead Revealed

"You know we are totally crazy, right?" he asked me, brushing my hair back so he could look at me.
"Well, you don't call me Nuts Girl for nothing. You wanted a crazy girl, and you sure got one."
"I sure did, and how lucky am I?" he said, still smiling.
"No one will understand this. You know that, right?" I said, still trying to kiss him.
"They don't have to. This is about you and me." He kissed me deeply, and I melted. I actually melted in his arms as I started to cry again.
~The Redhead Revealed

We'd gone through hell and back, and he stuck with me. My life was a sum of all its parts. Everything I'd been through, everything I'd done had brought me to this place with Jack.
We were solid. We were strong. And we were moving forward together.
