Working the graveyard shift at the sheriff's office is hard work. And Deputy Rain McCandless is busy keeping her dog-napping grandfather out of trouble all day. So when a sexy intruder claims to be an angel then warns her she's going to die, Rain starts to wonder if she's going off the deep end.

Dillon Taylor isn't exactly an angel--he's a nephilim. He doesn't live by the same rules as angels or humans, but there is on rule he doesn't like to break: never get involved with mortals. But the old man's granddaughter is in danger and it couldn't hurt to change fate just this once...could it?

Half small town mystery, half sexual journey with a hot nephilim, Smoking Hot was a fun and sexy read.

Smoking Hot centers around Raine and Dillon, a small town police officer and a nephilim. When Raine's grandfather begins praying for his granddaughter's safety, Dillon is the half-angel who answers. When he meets Raine, not only does Raine answer the prayers, but he also finds a woman he wants for himself. This sets the two off on a sexual tug of war, a struggle for dominance.

Raine is a woman who always wants to be in control, and this woman isn't willing to budge an inch. Knowing that her need for power is holding her back, Dillon sets out to make her submit. The push and pull between them was fun to read about, but my gosh, Raine was frustrating. Call me crazy, but if you have a gorgeous angel man who wants to give you more pleasure than you can imagine, I say go for it! But honestly, the battle was half the fun. Dillon takes some interesting measures to bring Raine's defenses down, most notably at The House of Ecstasy. (Side note: The House of Ecstasy is fan by fairies, who apparently take their pleasure seriously!) Going to the debauch House of Ecstasy forces Raine to see that she can take joy in acts outside of her control. There's even a chocolate pool to swim in, and hot fudge hot tub!

Outside of the intimate portions of Smoking Hot, there was the mystery of who was setting Raine and her grandfather up for bank robbery. I'll admit, this part of the story didn't interest me nearly as much as Raine and Dillon together. And I really liked the turn the story took with them at the end.

If you like a mystery set among a steamy fantasy read, Smoking Hot might get you going.

Favorite Quote:

"I fantasized about what you would look like without clothes."
He met her eyes and she could feel the warm tingles from that one mesmerizing look, but this time it was different.  She knew the power he had, but rather than run from it, she let his gaze sweep slowly over her, relishing in the warmth of his stare as it touched her breasts, grazed her ribs and slid over her abdomen. She gasped when the waves of heat began to build between her legs, the flames licking over the pale blue silk of her bikini panties. Her breathing was labored short little puffs. If he could do that with his eyes she could only imagine what he would be able to do with his hands.  ~eARC, 36%

  1. I'm not big into angel or angel-like books but this is definitely different the others I've read so you never know! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Oooh, this sounds pretty darn good. I never heard of this series, but just added them to my GR's pile.
I love when you said this:
"Call me crazy, but if you have a gorgeous angel man who wants to give you more pleasure than you can imagine, I say go for it!"
Yep, I say the same! LOL :D

  3. This sounds better than the Nephilim story I read awhile back where the dude just appeared in her house like "OH, you have low self esteem. Let me stick my wiener in you and show you to love yourself". Needless to say that was a DNF but this sounds marginally better! Thanks for sharing Hurricane Andrea!

  8. This sounds a bit different from the normal steamy read with the angel aspect, but it sounds like some fun. I think Raine would frustrate me a bit, though. Wonderful review, Andrea. :)

  9. "Call me crazy, but if you have a gorgeous angel man who wants to give you more pleasure than you can imagine, I say go for it!"

LOL Right?! This is why I end up frustrated with characters half the time. Because they all want to fight the inevitable. You know for whatever reason I never read smexy paranormal books. I love paranormal but when I read smexy books they are usually just contemporary so maybe I should try one with a nephilim, or something.
