Review ~ While I'm Still Myself, by Mark Jeremy Lane

While I'm Still MyselfA passionate December love affair.
The meeting of an unexpected traveler.
The consequences of protecting a young new acquaintance.
A journey into an unknown past.

In the stories of While I’m Still Myself, Jeremy Lane eloquently describes the life changing impact of the brief encounter, showing that life and love are not shaped by an entire lifetime, but by the fleeting moments with unexpected people in unexpected places.
~From GoodReads

While I'm Still Myself, by Mark Jeremy Lane, is a collection of short stories. Each share a small common thread that ties them together, the theme, While I'm Still Myself.  There's the story of a short, tragic romance; the circle of life between birth and death; a girl who fears her mother's sad fate will be her own; a girl who sacrifices herself for her friends; a life shaped by regret; love and justice; and what goes on behind closed doors. Each story is heartbreaking, beautiful, tragic, bittersweet.

The author has a wistful, poignant style of writing. Each word of every story is quiet and subtle, but put together as a whole, speaks volumes. The book is a fast read, and I found myself endlessly curious as to what the next story would bring. If you are a fan of short stories, as I am quickly becoming, you should definitely make the time to read While I'm Still Myself.

  1. the last book I read with short stories, was the zombies vs unicorns one.. but that was an anthology.. with different authors. I have never read one full of stories by the same author.

haha, so I read the description first.. I was like, wtf, I still know nothing about this book, and all it has is birdies on the cover. then I realized it was a group of stories. duh.

Ooh, but I got another idea.. we can read some of the enthralled stories together.. the ones that wont be spoilery, after our dessens of course. :)
